Hi Maggie,

Unfortunately the rumors are true. If you'd like, you can have a look at the facts linked below, regarding the FDA "unapproved" Estratest. I think it can answer a lot of questions patients have about the medication and what equivalents are out there:
whrc.net/forms/estratest_info.pdf?PHPSESSID=76f3a7ed80731c9d4ca32f37e7776812

I hope this helps!

Here is a recap of the information available on this and a few other Estratest threads.

There is a supply distribution problem for the medication "estrified estrogen and methyltestosterone", but it appears to be sporadic as to locations and dates.

Solvay was the original developer of Estratest, a trademarked medication name. Other companies (Glenmark, Prasco, Breckenridge, Lannett) began producing a similar medication under different names. All of these companies have discontinued production.

These are all current Estratest equivalent manufacturers and the medication name:
Centrex makes Corvaryx in full and half strength.
Creekwood makes EEMT in full and half strength.
Amneal is also supposed to be the same composition in full and half strength.
ANI Pharmaceutical makes "estrified estrogen and methyltestosterone" by that name.
Any name with "HS" after it is the half strength medication

We visited our doctor and he gave my wife a shot of testosterone to go with the Premarin she is taking and that is working well for her. This was her treatment prior to the initial development of Estratest.

Diane received a script of EEMT 0.625/1.25 from Choice Pharmacy of Canada.

Colete spoke with a pharmacist. She suggested these alternatives for Estratest HS replacement.
1. Bio Equivalent Hormone Creams (Estradiol/Estriol + Testrostrone
2. OR Premarin Lowdose + Testosterne Cream (applied twice a week in thigh area (I believe)
3. OR Estradiol/Estriol + Testosterone Compound Capsule. This would require getting the medication from a compounding pharmacy.

There appear to be some solutions available until the supply distribution problem is resolved.
You may want to discuss all of these solutions with your doctor and/or pharmacist and see what is available in your area.

Is the brand still available at Wal-Mart in Georgia? If so what city.

The generic Estratest and Estratest HS should be available again soon. From what I've heard from the manufacturers themselves, they just need to label their products as CIIIs (controlled substance category 3) to be compliant with the new FDA law.

How do you find out if the generic for Estratest will be available again. My OBGYM suggested I go to a compounding pharmacy to get something that is equal to what I was taking. Not sure if my health ins will cover it. In the meantime, I'm not sure what to do.

Hi Dale,

These are all current Estratest equivalent manufacturers and the medication name:
Centrex makes Corvaryx in full and half strength.
Creekwood makes EEMT in full and half strength.
Amneal is also supposed to be the same composition in full and half strength.
ANI Pharmaceutical makes "estrified estrogen and methyltestosterone" by that name.
Any name with "HS" after it is the half strength medication

Check with your pharmacy and see if they can get any of these.

Another option is daily Primarin and monthly testosterone shot. My wife had been using this since January when she ran out of Estratest.

Mike, thanks for the info. I checked the RX bottle and see that the mfg is Amneal. So, it seems I may be able to continue with the current medication. I'll check with my pharmacy for availability.

Thanks again for the info.

I don't think insurance covers any of the estrogen based drugs. At least mine doesn't. And I'm on Medicare. The people that make these decisions should have to sleep next to me at night and wake up water wet... They might change their minds. Course they are most likely men so have no idea what it's like. I pay full price and was informed today when I need a refill that it had gone up $100.00. So if I continue to get it I'll have to pay almost $425.00 for 90 days.

Susie: Just wanted to inform you that if you use an RX coupon for EEMt, it will be much cheaper. I pay about 35.00 for one month supply at Walgreens because my insurance did not cover it.

Your link is not working. I think we should call the FDA all of us and DEMAND out EEMT!!

Your right its not on Medicare. We should all phone bomb them and demand they put it back. It WAS on there a year or two ago.

Hi Maggie, I don't if you've been able to find a resolution. Perhaps I can help. Estratest, Covaryx, EEMT is all the same formula manufactured and distributed by different companies. FDA requires that all these must have the same formula of the "active" ingredients, methylT and EE. Though of course the supplier will be different and the "inactive" will be different, they are all basically the same thing. Covaryx is a brand while EEMT is the generic, made exactly the same way by the same company. Your pharmacy should fill a RX if your doc writes them "DAW", dispense as written. Centrix Pharmaceuticals and Creekwood are the distributors so if you're having issues with payment, please contact them as they have programs available that should help. Good luck!

what type of coupon did you use? I would love to get my meds for $35 instead of $100!

@Sharon,

MedsChat offers a drug coupon that can reportedly save you an average of 15-75% off the prescription cost.

You can view more details about it here: Rx Savings Card

I'd imagine that different pharmacies/medications may have different percentages of savings...

Hope this helps! Please do post back and let us know how much of a discount you got.

I agree with you about men making these decisions regarding our post menopausal symptoms. They should talk to my husband or children about the experiences they've had while in that state of mind. I've been on this medication for over 25 yrs & my life has definitely been better for all concerned about me. Have those men who are making those decisions for us talk to a real post-menopausal woman to decipher what is best for us!

I didn't know Estratest was taken off the market by the FDA until I tried to get my script filled. I guess my doc didn't know either because he filled it. I don't know where to turn.
