Endocet Vs Oxycodone (Page 3)

I HAVE BEEN ON OXYCODONE FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND MY DRUG STORE RAN OUT AND GAVE ME ENDOCET? SAID IT WAS THE SAME THING BUT MY BODY TELLS ME THAT IT'S NOT THE SAME. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CHANGE?

I am responding on the sole basis of personal experience and not as any type of medical professional. I have been on oxycodone for almost two years to manage chronic back pain. My dose has been the same and it does the trick to provide me with the relief I need. Today, I went to a different pharmacy than usual due to location and they gave me endocet. I didn't realize it until I got to work. I looked it up and saw that it was a generic of percocet. So, thinking that it would have the same effect as the oxycodone I took it. I am very disappointed. My dose did not even come close to providing me with the relief I need. I had to double my dose to get some relief but still did not get full relief like I have consistently gotten from oxycodone. I also started itching in random places all over my body and the itching keeps jumping around. So, I called my specialist and talked to his medical assistant. When I told her I had been given endocet she had an immediate reaction that they should have given me oxycodone. She seemed upset about it and made it clear that it is not the same as oxycodone, even though both oxycodone and endocet are considered generics of percocet. Again, this is just my personal experience and I make no claim that everyone would have the same experience. To me, I think the medical assistant's reaction was most striking because she was so clear that endocet is the wrong medication for me. I will be picking up a new prescription tomorrow morning and they will be specifying that I need to be given oxycodone. I will, going forward, also ensure that whatever pharmacy I go to has oxycodone in stock and can provide that instead of endocet.

I forgot to mention that the medical assistant, upon hearing that I was suffering from persistent itching, told me to immediately stop taking the endocet. She said that I am having an allergic reaction.

@JoJo
You say the pharmacist HAS to fill as to how the doctor specifies, generic permissable or name brand only-
I have found differences in the generics, I told my doctor so he wrote for name brand only but pharmacy told me they only had generic and filled (still do) with generic brand. Isn't this against the law for the pharmacy to do this to me?

The pharmacist has to fill out your prescription how ever the Dr. tells them to. In other words if she says 30 pills (240 mg), 1 a day slow release. That is how they HAVE to fill it. The only way they are allowed by law to fill it, is by how your Dr. writes out the prescription!!! If you want a 90 day supply she has to write a 90 day prescription!! If she puts a strength dosage on it. They have to fill it exactly as she says!! I hope this helps!! I am getting to where I cannot afford my medicines.

dowhatucantostop, it's curious that you post identical messages on different forums.
It's also curious that you actually believe what manufacturers and the government tell you.
Oddly enough, Endocet works better for me than Percocet. And no, it's not in my head, because I was unaware of the substitution (this has happened to me twice in 14 years) until I began to search for the cause of my sudden increase in pain. I returned the unused Percocet to the pharmacy, received Endocet, and my pain level promptly dropped to manageable values.
BTW, I have a license to grow my own marijuana and use it most nights to enable me to sleep. It works even better than Endocet.

why is she experiencing more pain after taking Oxycodone 10mg (no Tylenol). versus taking Endocet 10 / 325?
Is the Tylenol making the difference?
Because Oxycodone by itself is making her feel much worse..

Even though endocet and Percocet are both manufactured by endo pharmaceuticals they are not identical ,do your homework, different binders and fillers can and do change the bioavailability which affects the plasma concentration , and everyone is different ,loof up these big words o.k.

My husband is on oxycodone 10/325 and now endocet 10/325 he says he has to take more. He is also on morphine 10 mg three times a day. Would that have an effect on the maintenance drugs?

That is just cruel of you. Im sorry about your loss i have also lost people i cared about to pain med abuse but i been going through hell the last three years since i got in a nasty car accident trying to get some quality of life back cuz the docs are too scared to prescribe the meds i need to lose the pain and get my life back. Please dont blame doctors anyone with an abuse problem will stop at nothing to get the drugs they want legally or illegally. The doc who gave the meds must have been convinced he was in enough pain.

I have been taking Percocet generic form Manufacture named Mallinckrodt for a long time for chronic lower pain.(white tablets. Rite Aid switched to Endocet (possibly cost control) which were yellow tablets instead. When I took Endocet 10mg I noticed they were LESS effective in controlling my pain very weak form. Also no pain relieve. I told pharmacist that I would like to exchange for what I have been taking right along and they could not do it because it was against the law. So now I have to suffer for 3 more weeks for a new prescription and told me to tell doctor to put me on the manufacture that gave me better relieve. Endocet suck in pain control.

For me, it was a matter of my insurance switching. I for one am not pleased! my pharmacy made the switch to endocet without letting me know. I have started experiencing different & worse side-effects. I reported them to my Dr., however since I didn't mention the switch, they were a little baffled & threw different meds at it. Whatever happened to educating the patient!!!

I was taking percocet 5/325 and just had surgery and the pharmacy gave me endocet. I took the endocet and didnt' feel any help at all. I personally didn't read the bottle to see the difference in name. My son-in-law looked at the bottle when I told him it wasn't working and he had mentioned the difference in name. This WAS NOT in my head as I hadn't even noticed the difference at the time of my complaint. I believe there most definetely IS a difference.

lucky you, I told my doctor about the difference and he would not give me the percocet script...He just told me to take tylenol with it...I tried it and same thing happened...fell asleep and had no pain relief

I was given a prescription of Percocet 5/325. I have a badly herniated disc in my neck and went thru all the anti-inflamatories before being given the Percocet. I even took a series of three nerve block shots, which only lasted about 4 weeks. The first prescription of Percocet was actually the generic Roxicet, which I didn't even pay attention to the name until I ran out and received another prescription for Endocet. There too, I didn't even look at that generic name until after taking it because of no pain relief. About an hour passed by and I still felt no pain relief. I took a second pill at the two hour point and got no relief. That was when I called the Pharmacy to find out what the name of the first script was. I complained to my pain specialist that I wasn't getting any relief from the Endocet. He insisted it was the same. After some discussion, I handed him the remaining 27 tablets and told him he can throw them down the toilet for all I cared, but I wanted a script for Roxicet because it took away my pain. He wrote on the script "do not substitute". I went from pharmacy to pharmacy and all said they were out of Roxicet. My wife made some calls and found out that Roxicet's contract ran out and the only thing I could get was Endocet or the original Percocet, except the Percocet would cost me $218 for 30, Well, I have been in some terrible pain for a week, so I will pay whatever I have to this time. The bottom line is that there IS a difference between Roxicet and Endocet. It's not in my mind because I never even paid attention to the names, I only took the meds and felt the difference. I'm guessing maybe it just works differently for some people. For me, the generic Roxicet worked, and I assume the original Percocet will be fine as well. I just don't know what I'm going to do 30 days from now when I have to get another script because I can't afford $218. every 30 days when I was only paying $7.00 for the generic. I hope this helps those with the same problem I have had.

Yes, I have to have name brand. Oxycodone is a generic also, along with endocet. You have to ask your doctor to always put on the prescription brand name only or you will get generic.

You can get just Oxycodone without being Percocet (Percs have Tylenol) The oxycodone are aka Roxicodone, I stopped taking the percs due to the high levels of Tylenol I was getting and not wanting to trash my liver ! Roxi's come in many sizes (My son had 5mg after wrist pinning surgery) I normally take the 15mg, but then again I get 180 a month. I've been taking that quantity for many years.. Afraid to take less pills and switch to the 30mg
