Trazodone (such as PLIVA [PLIVA 434; 100mg]) Is not subjected to the controlled substances act.

There are no urine tests that screen for it. Trazodone Hydrochloride is most commonly used to treat depression; sedation; fibromyalgia; insomnia; and anxiety.

It belongs to the drug class phenylpiperazine; antidepressants. There is no type of urine screen that looks for this, unless it is specifically being tested for. So a 5-panel, 9-panel, 10-panel, 12-panel, etc. will not be looking for this or its metabolites in your urine.

But, as always, you should consult your physician about any concerns you have regarding medication. If you are obtaining this drug via street methods (aka not via prescriptions) then I would offer you talk to your physician about using it, as to see if it is healthy or even a good idea for you. Any medication, absolutely any, should not be taken lightly, as everyone reacts to medications differently.

But the reason I know for a fact this will not show up in a urine analysis is because I was taking the aforementioned PLIVA 434's for depression at the same time that I was being randomly drug tested for my job. Firstly, I consulted my physician as well as notified both the testing facility and my employer that I was taking it for medical reasons. But after multiple screenings, it never showed up positive simply because it is not a scheduled drug nor is it tested for in your common urine screens.

Hope that helps,
TK

You're mistaken, trazodone can test positive for amphetmaines depending on the concentration of the urine. There are numerous published journal research studies that have found trazodone can return a false positive due to the metabolite m-CPP and high enough levels of concentrations can result in a false positive.

I just took a drug screen test yesterday. I take Trazodone, Gabapentin (pain med) and Simvastatin (cholesterol). The facility had a device that looks like an old-fashioned malt/shake machine. It was capable of detecting many drugs and usually takes about 5 mins to analyze. I am on Trazodone for bi-polar II plus insomnia. It's not recommended for people who just have insomnia only, there should be some mental health issue. Anyway, the Trazodone gave a false positive, meaning that it trigger a positive for a certain drug use, even though I don't do drugs. The Medical specialist who runs the facility looked it up, and the false positive on Trazodone gives a reading for LSD usage, meaning that the test indicated that I use LSD, which is absurd because I don't. As a result, the test had to be forwarded to a doctor who contacted me. I provided the doctor my prescription (easy since I go to the VA) and the "LSD usage" was overridden. That's how Trazodone reads in tests and what happens afterwards should you get a false positive. FYI...the specialist told me that he thought that Trazodone stayed in the system (for testing) for up to 3 days, but he wasn't 100% sure.

I would avoid taking it for 7 days before the test. The problem you may have is taking a prescribed med without a prescription. Is there a chance a facility may report you to the authorities? I don't know. But it's a risk as it is a felony.

I was in CCU for 6 days & sent home with neurontin, trazodone, my roxicodone, seroquil, & amoxicillin. I went to my pain clinic & yesterday they tell me my April urine showed cocaine. I've never ever touched a street drug. They took another same (no chain of command, nobody watched me pee & i stuck in the metal box where others had their urine) they didn't refills my meds I've been on for 5 yrs after 5 sx's in 2 yrs. Just recently my neck. They called drug rehab and had them contact to admit me. I won't admit to something I have never done. I have to wait 30 days now for results I'm not sure are tainted still. I even had my med list & they treated me like a crack addict. I have cried all day. Idk what to do.
