Does A Saliva Drug Test Only Test For Drugs Taken Orally?

I had a odd question. I have been perscribed subutex for about 6 months now and I noticed that it some times just didnt help my pain when taken orally. A month ago I read online that I could dissolve the medication in water and administer it rectally and people say that it seemed to be more effective. I tried it and it worked and I've been doing it that way ever since.
Recently my doctor's office switched to saliva drug testing and I had one test taken on Monday. For some reason they wanted to send my swab test off for additional testing and they wouldnt tell me why. Im wondering if I tested negative for Subutex because of the new way I've been administering it. I do not know if that kind of test only tests for things taken orally. Could I get in trouble for taking it rectally? I hope not. It was with the best of intent.
