Tramadol is a synthetic opiate. Considered safe for long term use.
4% of the population WILL experience SEVERE withdrawl...compared to heroin withdrawl. Yes is not controlled & is available on line. It is for moderate to severe pain depending on the individual. It will bring on the euphoria most people seek it can be abused. You will build a tolerence. So don't be fooled by it not being controlled. Ihave a severe nerve injury at my L-5. I have chronic wide spread pain. And more. My symptoms mimic MS and fibro. I took Tramadol for three years with lyrica and soma. Just be careful

For those of you who are looking to find a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:
{link removed because site no longer exists}

You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:
wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist

Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they are accepting new patients; some aren't, but most usually are.

I hope this info helps and wish you all good luck on finding the right doctors!

Hey guys I just moved here to Houston from Spring Branch. I have fibro and lupus. My dr is in San Antonio which is way too far to get to. I have to depend on my boyfriend to get anywhere and its hard enough just to get him to take me to the store let alone San antonio! If anyone knows of any understanding drs, please let me know. Would be a life saver! xxxxx@xxx {edited for privacy}. Thanks a bunch!

That's what I suspected! Thanks for confirming. I use a Forum called Pharmacy Reviewer as well as Google I never thought to call the doctors office FIRST. This is a good idea, I am set for now but will use this (hopefully won't have too) in the future! Thanks for sharing!

RE: Angie's List:
I only just subscribed to Angie's List for the first time about 5 weeks ago. I spent $17 for some kind of 1yr basic plan. I spent a couple of hours trying various types of searches for doctors and was actually becoming quite discouraged when I finally stumbled across some reviews for the Dr discussed below.

I was about to request a refund because the types of results and recommendations I was receiving were illogical and limited. So I felt very lucky that I found my Dr. He was the ONLY pain Med Dr I found through Angie's.

I had found a dozen other drs via Google searches and spent a couple days vetting them all over the phone by means of a simple 4-5 question survey that I had prepared to ask receptionists covering:
Fees
likelihood of prescribing narcotics
Availability
Ability to avoid a bunch of "specialist" referrals.

Obviously I had been down this new doctor road before and new what I was looking for and maybe a good way to begin.

So Angie's List was a new idea and tool for me that just happen to provide the winning doctor and provide a couple of amazing reviews for him. I also found him through Google but had prioritized him at the bottom of my list due to distance (15 miles & I have no car yet) and neighborhood (just 1 step above the ghetto. )

But after all my phone call vetting with receptionists, he rose to the top of the list.

So generally, I can't say I'm very impressed with Angie's, in fact my initial impression is that she kind of sucks when it comes to doctor listings and I just happen to get a little lucky.

So is this Angie's List a good tool for finding COMPASSIONATE Doctors? I would love to hear more peoples thoughts on this forum about it. A bunch of people have found good doctors thanks to this list and people posting right in the thread so read back. Keep it alive, remember when you didn't have a Doctor, sharing is caring :)
Thanks,

I've been in Denver 4 months from AZ. I did a lot of research and called a dozen doctors or more and asked many questions. I just saw this Guy for the 1st time one month ago.

So far, he's been everything I hoped for. He wrote me 5 scripts after asking intelligent questions. He gave me exactly what I asked for including a 6 month supply of 10mg Norcos(qty 120), 6 months SOMA and 12 months Neuronton. He intimated something stronger than Norcos because of the Amt of APAP I'm taking but I didn't want it.

He's both an Internist and a Gastrointerologist. He has skills to work in high end practices down town but chooses to work in slightly aged run down office in a poor part of town where he grew up and its completely safe but don't dress up like some yuppy .... dressed down. His Angie list referrals are awesome :

Did you ever find a good pain management doctor in the south jersey area to prescribe the mere you need? If so could you please give a recommendation. I am going to someone now who also stopped the pain LEDs suddenly and will only give me epidurals. They kill and seem to make matters worse. I desperately need to find a new doctor. Thank you. xxxxx@xxx {edited for privacy}

First do no harm! What a joke. I have been on pain meds for 7 years and got caught up in a nj entrapment net. I was prescribed meds for shingles by a PCP with full knowledge of my Pain Managerment and PCP's charting but the new law in Nj that captures cross prescribing of certain class drugs caused them both to run because they made the error. Now I can barely function. Many Drs have admitted to me that narcotic therapy is the best for certain conditions, they have been prescribed for centuries and the side effects are known and manageable. Unfortunately we are paying for the young generations need for instant gratification ...steeling their parents medications and then becoming addicted and dying. Terrible yes, but living with intractable pain with no hope for the future is also terrible and can lead to death. I know that if I have to live with another day of this agony I dont think i can make it. I will give you this advise, see a therapist in conjunction with any meds the DR may prescribe. If they work together they might determine that your quality of like is worth the risk of dependency, not abuse. It takes diligence to stay on a narcotic and use as prescribed. Drs take note of how proactive you are in your own treatment. I unfortunately lost out because of faith in the DRs I was seeing. I never thought they would leave me hanging and sell me out, but their careers are hard faught and they will throw you under the bus if need be. Our society has become soooo intolerant of prescription drug use/abuse. I saw a DR OZ episode recently with Montel Williams as a guest. He has MS and his pain had at one time become so unmanageable he was ready to take his life. Even Dr Oz so the thought process that brought him to that conclusion. If the drug that makes your quality of life better exists and you subject to the terms and agreements in using them you should not feel like a criminal. I truly believe that the percentage of people using narcotics to control pain do not get high. They just use them to push through the pain to live another day.
Take matters into your own hands and get a therapist or mental health professional on your side to advocate that you will not have the will to fight this with out a drug that addresses your pain..
