BL-Yes patch has come up however insurance not cover so is $5000 hospital for test of patch to see it would work then pump over $2000 then meds in it varies but prob $1000/month- now I am fixed low income so no chance. Plus horror stories of infection like meningitis? Am also wheelchair with broken arms not allow me to reach certain ways so I would fear a pump may need adjusting or ? which I couldn't reach. With all these regulations it may be only chance for some relief however idk just how could swing costs. I am so desparate right now just to find a FL dr. to see me & treat me. I have seen about 10 drs. now but all offered was this pump & remainder not write scripts due to license loss fear. (Dr. actually stated that then others came up with other excuses but know that really reason). We are in horrid state if in pain.
PLEASE if anyone has dr. no longer afraid help me???
Thanks thanks,
Chris

I've been living in Lansing for 3 months been to both hospitals. Had bad ex. Seen 6 docs plus en docs. Not one would give me pain pills. I have bone grinding on bone plus fibromyalgia. I was flat out told no buy advil l or Tylenol over the counter. What happened to the hypocritical oath? Somethings got to be done. Maybe a legal suit. Dr.s are driving people to the streets. Are the docs so intimated by the government and the possibility of loosing their license. Last time I got any pain pills in Kalamazoo (lived there for 30 years) the doc had the pharmacist call me and wanted me to come in for a pill count. I was out of town and didn't get the message as a result he put "NO controlled substance to be given. Patient refused pill count." My whole life I'm 55 I have never heard of this now I'm really having problems. Will have to get an attorney to have that removed then I'll be known as a trouble maker. This is all so wrong. Any advice or information would be much appreciated. I've never abused drugs.

If you had meant me...please don't call me Sir, I worked. *winks*....and I am a female...*giggles*...it was a joke in the Marine Corps (and I believe in all services), that when someone called an enlisted person "Sir" (the designation given to an officer), we jokingly said "Don't call me "Sir", I work for a living!".

And of course, if you were telling that to someone else, I will turn the appropriate color of bright red, and apologize furiously.

But I will take that, in the name of me, that "other" person, and for all people who have served our country, living and dead...Some gave more time than others...some gave their lives...but we all did it for love of our country! So when you say that...I truly appreciate it! *smiles*

BL-I am in process of finding nueological testing for after chemotherapy which almost killed me from mega dosage, I have had probs ingesting meds. Pain meds I took for 1st time would not effect me until high amounts, then all osteoporosis meds I took never effected my bones. Am not sure cost but can see I need to show that I have this situation so it is verified medically my need for high dosages of meds. They will work but need outrageous amounts. Not sure where remainder of med goes if not into my brain except just pass it in bathroom? Really needed find this out years ago-it may have saved my skeleton.

Chris, you won't die from withdrawls, athough at times you might wish you would. Drs are not continuing to give high doses of these meds. The guidelines are 120 mg Morphine or Morphine Equivelent. You need to adjust because I doubt you will be able to find a dr who will keep you at the level you've been on.

BL-I have years of copied office visits, bone density, x-rays, etc. took with me to appts. I realize they may not keep my dosage & med type but still pain pump is simply not option for me & both last 2 appts wanted put me on that-no meds at all! Too many reasons not option but final straw not afford & insurance not cover. Have follow-up apt with dr who left me with 20mg/day script (I take 345mg/day last 10+ yrs) which my body would go into withdrawals & be hospitalized. Said come back in 2 weeks!! Then walked out!! Why would he not know that would put me in danger of even dying from withdrawals? Other appt. was close to same-she gave me such low dosage it would also put me withdrawals. These meds need taper not stop or drop to a speck. Why these drs. not know?? Even says in meds pamphlet this info. I afraid make long trip to follow-up, be charged more $$ ($500 already) then be told pump or nothing even if cannot afford it. Worse yet he may not even give me taper meds so wont die. What to do?!

What is a pump? If it would keep the levels in the blood at a more even level, I would be willing to consider it, despite the problems indicated, because it probably is "controlled" by the doctor, and gives an even amount, instead of having the "ultimal" amount for a bit of time, then dealing with the pain encroaching more and more, until when right before you take the medicine, you are so tempted to take the medicine early, just to get rid of the pain that is there. I honestly feel that instead of taking 30mgs 4 time a day, that it would be a lesser amount, because it's constant, and your body doesn't have to deal with no pain/lots of pain/no pain/lots of pain/no pain/lots of pain....I think a lot of "drug seeking" behaviors happens when you are at the pain points, not when your body is "happy". The last couple of months, my pill deliveries are inconsistent, because you have to get another script from the doctor each month. My pills were due, I believe, on a Tuesday. I wrote the doctor on the Wednesday before, and they have a policy that they can take up to 48 hours to respond to the email. The following Tuesday evening was when she finally wrote the script. The nurse had called me, and told me that I should receive it on Wednesday, but I did not receive them until Friday. I had built up a "reserve" of 10 pills, because sometimes my pain is worse, and I have to take 5 pills in a day...so sometimes when I can bear the pain a little more, I extend the time to 8 hours per day, so I can save up a couple of pills for breakthrough pain, or for when the pills are delivered late. I had one where I wrote the doctor on a Monday...was told that the doctor was on vacation, and wouldn't be back til the following Monday. I don't remember when the pills had run out, what day the pills were supposed to be refilled, but on Tuesday (I think...it might had been Wednesday), I called the office at 2:30pm, and said I was down to 1 pill (and I think this was when I was supposed to have picked up the pills a day or two before), and could the receptionist pass a message to the doctor asking her to refill the prescription, and that I needed to pick up the prescription by 4, because that is when the VA pharmacy closed.

I called up the advice nurse at 5pm, asking would a doctor make a mini-prescription, to get me through until the regular doctor sent my prescription, that I expected it the next morning "sometime"...She said most ER doctors would not do that, and that it could be perceived as drug-seeking attention (I had told her my fear of being perceived as a drug seeker, and that I knew that even calling her could be perceived as that type of behavior)...she looked at my record, and saw that the doctor had written the prescription at 2:30pm...and no one bothered to call me or send me a message. Even last week. I had written the doctor mid-month, and the message back was she had written the prescription with a pickup date of April 30. I had to change the pickup to mail delivery. I called the pharmacy on Monday, and explained that I had no ride to pick up my medicine, could they change it to mail delivery. I expected it to be delivered on Friday (the mail company sends the mail drugs overnight). It was not delivered on Friday...I had a few pills where I should have been out...so I stretched them out, s that I was taking them every 12 hours...and crying other times. On sunday, for the first time in over a month, I left the house, with the intention of putting money in the bank, and trying to get food from a grocery store. So I went walking for 1/4 of a mile. by the time I got there I was overheated, and trouble breathing (almost like pneumonia...I had been experiencing those feelings for over a month now, anyway). I stopped at Burger King, had a burger, chicken fries, and a smoothie...sat for about 45 minutes, then walked across the street to Smart and Final, and went through and picked up my groceries (maybe another 45 minutes)...I was overheated, and knew I could not walk back home, so I called my bf, interrupting him from his activity, telling him that I could not walk home. I sat for about 10 minutes, until I didn't feel light-headed again, and walked across the parking lot to Walgreens, where I spent 5 minutes getting minor items, and again, I was overheated, light headed, woozy...sat outside, and he came, when I got home, I couldn't even put my groceries standing up...I had to sit on a chair to put everything away...I went to lay down, and was still having trouble breathing, it felt like when I had pneumonia...

I called the advice nurse, who said that according to the symptoms and history I described (I have had pneumonia before, as well as blood clots in my lungs, and I take blood thinners), she said I should go to the ER. I went, and found out that there was nothing wrong with my lungs, that it was a viral syndrome, something to do with a nasal drip perhaps (I didn't have one)...I asked if there was any way I could get the oxycodone (I thought she knew what I was asking, because I asked the nurse to ask the doctor for just like 4 pills, to get me through til my delivery...I had one pill, and I didn't know if I would get the pills in the morning, or if it would be afternoon or the next day (or even Wednesday)...she started to deny me, and said that the nurse hadn't told her...I explained I was asking for 2-4 pills as a bridge until I got mine (at this hospital, at the ER doctor's discretion, they can do an inj. of pain meds (I have had to get dilaudid because of severe pain from kidney stones) or I believe up to 4 pills even if you are on a pain contract)...she said that if the pills were in transit, she could not give them to me...but if they were pending transit (already filled), then she could not fill them. So I waited, and went to the pharmacy, expecting 2 pills, and I got my full prescription, the pharmacist said that the mail pharmacy had not yet filled them, so they were able to give me the full prescription (thank goodness). I think the last 4 fills, it's been a problem after problem after problem...and I am afraid that it makes me appear that I am a drug seeker, when all I am worried about is getting the pills on time, so there is no gap (such as there has been)...I am worried, because I don't want to make the wrong move, say the wrong statement, and get it taken away....I live with level 5 pain most of the time (level 7 is the pain I normally go to the hospital). Thank you for listening...I don't have friends to complain to...ya'll understand.

I have been on tramadol for well over 5years it helps with pain but not flare ups and I still withdrew from morphine. I because of my age got treated like a drug addict. I have fibromyalgia, arthrosis etc I stopped going to doctors except my primary cause I am tired of getting treated that way

Problem am having with drs. is now they have not only not wanted to write my usual scripts (of almost 14yrs.) but 3 I went to see ALL wanted me switch to pump. Telling me can use 10% of mgs. since it goes directly into spine. My dose too high so that is consensus-however arms broken, knees bent, wheelchair etc. making it hard to even brush teeth so feel a pump would be intrusion more than I could deal with PLUS horror stories of infection (meningitis) etc. scare me to death. Or malfunction OD or withdrawal etc. Not to mention cost outrageous. Too many probs I don't need. How can I convince them pills are my best option -even if high dosage?
Thanks,
Chris

Thank you...that was written out of "desperation"...a lot of things are happening, and as sad as it sounds...my chronic pain is down the list...maybe 8th of what it should be.

I can't say that things are getting better...I thought they were, but there's so many ups and downs in the relationship...but it's evened out, so that I have it in the back of my mind, "why don't you move"
