P450, it may be helpful to check the dates of the reviews. If it has been since the 120 mg Morphine guideline came out from the FDA, the Dr may have changed what they prescribe.

Chris, drs don't have to say anything about the120 Morphine guidelines. Also if your last Dr got into trouble for prescribing like he wasn't suppose to, a lot of drs are hesitated to take on those patients.
Many drs won't give prescriptions on the first visit. You often have to go back and just stick with a Dr to really know what they will prescribe you.

Chris I checked him out on Healthgrades he has no sanctions at this time. Again at least 8 of 11 reviews stated he prescribed very strong medications. Only issue is no office in Louisiana. I have the name of one in N.O. area which is only 200 miles I am in Eastern Texas. Tomorrow Houston. If anyone knows of anyone who is a good physician in Texas (any part), or Louisiana, and would like to hear more about Dr. Troy in Metarie if anyone has background.

Chris I lost an adult daughter (2010) and cannot even speak of it. The reason I posted this one to you is he has two offices and mistakenly was also listed as physical therapist so people went there looking for therapy and were given strong medications I see he also has an office in Louisiana I might try there (near N.O.). I know of what you speak I'm seeing the one physician tomorrow, but the i****s from WC remember I've been injured since 1998 lost (I won again first I had to win Dr. Tennant in 2010 when Dr. H. died) and they will try to hold off to the last minute. They only gave me ER option during this after all these years and under Obamacare a painer will not get help in an ER they will waste your time and money and send you back to find a pain specialist--the insurer even refused me in the emergent time to find one and I am doing so now. Problem is I must be on brand due to allergies especially the patch and the amount I was on I am sure will never see again (80 and 80) two strengths, along with a generic liquid oxycodone I prefer since I am allergic to flavorings, dyes you name it. I have for 5 months now been without a treating physician it's called due diligence and two Deputy Commissioners told them this, and you would truly think since I was a Commonwealth RN, and I am part of the old system they would not be allowed to kill you that is murder in Texas where I reside now. I hope this will work for you; check your state medical board first I found several I'd like to try in Texas and the board has thrown them off for now. Around 2009 we got a new medical board and they are all conservative and in Texas now you must register as a pain clinic which is an expense, makes you a target and easier for them to manipulate and so forth. Keep in touch Chris.

Brandy. Yes it is legal you showed up for a drug they had not prescribed further if you have taken ADDICTION medication you know this drug reverses your opioids it is meant to do so. Why would you use this drug if you are on Oxycontin and Percocet? Further this is a liability to your PM specialist if you are physically risking your own life by mixing up drugs or worse yet not using your opioids for your intractable pain, and using ADDICTION medications. In all the years I've done referrals you are a red flag to me, so I do not know how Massachusetts is handling their network BUT in most cases you may be flagged at this time. I do recall reading several physicians in Rhode Island who were good physicians but perhaps you might be honest with your provider and give him/her the scoop on why you showed up dirty. I'm sorry people have got to stop this behavior you go to one physician for PAIN and stay with them you are making it bad for others myself included. I had one physician for 10 plus years until the man DIED unexpectedly and then the famous specialist for 5 years until regulations changed in California for out of state patients. I was injured in 1998 and prior to divorce and moving out to Texas I had one physician other then my surgeon until then so you do the math. No doctor hopping, shopping, or BS. I feel for you if you are now suffering but you need to find out what is going on as ADDICTION is a serious illness which causes other pain patients who are TOLERANT (properly so) to opioids.

That's a Good Question, here in Buffalo, NY., one of the Largest Drug Busts; 17 pounds of High Grade Fentanyl, Mega Opiates & Coke. There seems to be Plenty of illegal Drugs around.

Having been carefully Titrated over 16yrs., with excellent documentation is not cutting it in WNY. What Guidelines are you referring to? Where can I print a copy? Everything I've read states Chronic Severe Pain should be treated Case by Case, some Illnesses & injuries require a higher ceiling limit to control pain.

I was initially given 90 mg. Morphine Daily, now 600+ mg. & Fentynal for Breakthru. 4 or 5 Insurance Co. Physicians(IME's) agreed the Dosing was correct in my case & dozens of my own Dr.'s supported the need for Lifetime Palliative Care. However, the Insurance Co. continued to Harass,Threaten & Destroy my Patient/Physician relationships, the last Dr. stated "I'm not Losing my License for anyone?" How could that happen, with a Stellar Record & numerous Court Orders directing the Ins. Co. to provide the Meds. prescribed by my Dr.'s, yet they still continue.

Mobility is a problem for me or I would attempt going out of NY State, do you have any referrals for WNY?

Katy I am a professional nurse (BS from old Medical College of VIRGINIA) and a published scholarly researcher. Not only has the FDA intervened which is at a HIGHER LEVEL then this agency intervenes causing a FEAR level in addition to DEA and other regulatory bodies but each STATE has a right to exert their own regulatory issues. I was with the prime or the best of the best in California and he released 30 of us due to new California regulations which meant a reduction to 5% of my Fentanyl level alone and he is one of the many who states "reduction or interruption of her medication will result in death" and this physician has worked with the greats like JFK, and the DEA as well. No a physician NO longer has the freedom I am an exception to to my rare P450. Not to mention the physical wreck and essentially documentation was ALWAYS an issue with physicians. Patients must be more accountable as well.

SH can't you get out to Weyers Cove or Cave you can tell I do not live out there anymore. Balint Clinic sounds like the place you need to go they DO write medications enough so that several people complained about it on VITALS. I also gave you the company my first PM was at and gave you a clue that the doctor is a she. That also means she is still in Richmond. Now that is too long a wait for the methadone sounds like you went somewhere local near the Beach. Go up to Richmond I am sure they cannot wait that long for their street junkies so why should you a decent person have to wait??

SH I am so upset I happened to scroll down and found your message they are not notifying me (grrr) I am tempted to action up my pain support groups again so some of us can do contact. They are all still alive it is just after my daughter died in 2010 my heart dropped out of it and then Dr. T. did not want me killing myself doing pain support. Problem is I start doing it automatically as you can see, and now it's sad when some of us get tight not to be able to really chat. As I said one of my big things is helping others with RSD now called CRPS and have so many pain diagnoses myself it would bore everyone to hear them sigh. But when I reached my 10,000th referral is around the time Dr. T. told me not to push myself but I feel it is helpful that is why they called me AnGeLinPain and one of the groups was AnGels In Pain. I am glad you are getting help truly I was worried. I have heard OFTEN these places will gear you to a pain specialist if you are a sincere painer. Trust me when Dr. H. died in Houston (10 plus years with him) we only lost 3 and his patients were nationwide. 3 who were not due from out of state I reached out and made the same suggestion. We know though that kicking methadone is worse (and to me nothing is worse) then Duragesic; as this has rounds of withdrawal day 3 is worse then 2 day 10 is worse than 3 and by then just in reduction you want to end it.

BL, Meister; I agree with BL and as originally posted Hitler developed methadone when they lacked poppy back then. It is one of the best LA medications for pain, however, the up side is it costs PENNIES so is cheap, but the OD rate is high due to a slow metabolic pass through the liver.

Katy, They are getting them from those who are receiving high amounts (which now will be difficult even those like me who are catastrophic and an ultra rapid opioid P450 metabolizer are stuck) and who put them back out on the street in some percentage or that is what we are being told (Americans) by a government that (1) has used the DEA for years to bring in money for example in 1999 $1,000,000 up front for a physician investigated whether convicted or not it goes in their bank (2) these folks (DEA) do not hire physicians and licensed nurses to evaluate so physicians are destroyed going to prison (3) now the FDA concluding we as pain patients are in danger. Most of us are properly tolerant and can titrate safely; but for someone to abuse or party on such medication leads to overdose and death. I do not believe that many of us would risk this but some are.

I am a 50 hear old female still waiting on my disability with no insurance! I broke my back in 2009 T-7 and have 3 bulging disk, 3 stress fractures along with spurs going from my neck going into my shoulders. Yeah, it is a mess for me to be this young. I have fought through the pain and took over the counter meds most of the time unless it just got to the point to were I could not stand myself and I would to go to the ER. I can get a 1 month script from time to time like that but, I am already on a fixed income and those ER visit's are adding up very fast. I know from talking to my doctor last week, I will be getting my disability but, it is a waiting game. I live off of 409$ a month and go to a clinic here in Anniston, Alabama for people with no insurance. You get asst. with your med's and care and thank the Lord for that! My doctor does have me on a muscle relaxers and it helps but, because of the kind of clinic it is, they are not allowed to do pain management so, to speak. I also have trying to get into a charity program in Birmingham, Alabama. I have been told my T-7 where it was broke in 2009, I went to the ER and had an x-ray but, was told it was just strained at that time. in 2010 it was found with an MRI and it had healed but incorrectly and I was told I would have to have surgery to correct it. But, I am not wanting to just into surgery until it is a LAST resort! I am trying, it is just not an easy process at all to get into charity programs but, I do not know on some days how much more I can take with some of this pain. It is not every single day though and that I am thankful for. I just thought to try my luck here to see if I could find a doctor willing to help out until I get my disability. I have MRI's, X-ray's anything that is needed to validate what I am saying. because, I know there are too many people that have messed it up by misusing pain management doctor's and then it messes thing's up for the one's that do actually need it.

melster, methadone can be helpful to some people in controlling their chronic severe pain. The dosages for pain aren't the same as they are for the management of an addiction.

I'm a 41 year old woman with ALOT of health issue's. For 1 I have an artificial leg from birth defect's. I have been on Percocet & oxycontin for the past 13-14 year's & I've never failed a drug panel until now. they said I came back with suboxone in my system (very low doses). I am now told I have to go to someone else for my pain management while they have dropped me well over 1/2 of my milligrams a day. I live in Massachusetts and I really need help finding a Dr. ASAP, & is this even legal for them to do to me??

Meister, responded to you already but they are holding that one went to VITALS and saw this physician states there is a HUGE wait (bring lunch) but he does not BS around and writes medications. Two comments were made negative but confirmation that he does do medications.

In Reality there are more people Dying from Antidepressants (40,000 + yearly), nearly 80% of which are Suicide. Also, incredible amounts of Non-Opioid Medications that are responsible for astronomical Deaths & Health problems.

They will use ANY EXCUSE to Sway Physicians from helping people who really need it.

Just to clarify some info. I am a pain patient and am also a nurse so I am quite familiar with all the problems going on. I've seen the drug seekers and also the legitimate pain patients. And yes there are new guidelines, but it is still up to the doctor as to whether he chooses to write pain meds or not. The new regulations require more paperwork and documentation. So what that tells me is this is a lazy doctor problem. They just dont want to take the time to keep accurate records and give the patient the care they deserve. Its such a shame I see so many patients suffering. This is just crazy to me because there is a clear difference between the seeker and a legit patient. Legit patients are genuine and have previous documentation. My question is where are the drug seekers getting their meds? Besides the streets! And where are the street guys getting them?

Hi Meister, I rescheduled for Monday long story with me but I am pushing WC to act faster then their 30 days (they will) since medications I take are very expensive. Hitler paid a scientist to develop Methadone back in the day as they had a shortage of poppy. Methadone is one of the best LA medications on the market (I am allergic and also agree about the addict adage but) and cheaper then dirt; pennies a month. When a clinic closes down and many are in life threatening jeopardy it could be a methadone clinic that saves them until they get help. Today the FDA stuck us with the 120 mg. morphine equivalent that is our problem; addicts always abused prescription medications and if pain patients cared for their medication, or did not get too greedy selling at times which most of us would never do but the few bad ones make it bad for all we would not have the fear occurring or pressures again on physicians. Are you on LA medications and hope you are not forced to go cold have you sought another physician?
