Do You Gain Weight With Suboxone? (Page 4)

Updated

Hi I'm just starting to research suboxone. I'm currently going to a methadone clinic every day and it is such a hassle. I have to get up every morning at 4am to be there in time to get to work the line is so long but that's beside my point, My real question is Do you gain weight with Suboxone? This is my third attempt at trying to get off of opiates by taking Methadone but every single time I start taking Methadone I gain 40 to 60 pounds within the first 4 months. Most people do, some don't I just happen to be one of them. I get so discouraged by the weight gain that I stop going to the Methadone clinic and then start using again. Sadly my mom died from using the same drug I used before treatment. I have 3 children and want to get my life together again but I just can't cope with the weight gain. Can anyone tell me if Suboxone has the same side affect? And also is there any difference between Suboxone & Suboxine? PLEASE HELP!!!

I have been on Suboxone for over 1 month, I have lost at least 10 lbs, I was 110 or so when I started. I am very scared now, I cant afford to loose anymore weight!! I am trying to GAIN weight. I asked the Dr and he said it would tapper off, well it has not.

I also have the side effect of puking, nausia, gas/burping and no appetite (prob. why I dont eat) I noticed that hardly anything seems to stay in my system (food wise). I had to start drinking Equate chocolate drink just to hold onto the lbs I have...Wow

Is there any kind of meds out there that I can take to gain weight??? I looked and I did not see any.

Alos I had to up the dose of Suboxone a little to feel normal (if there is a NORMAL?) Not sure if that is the right thing to do but I did. Each day I am on the suboxone I feel different effects, like one day I am feeling good, the next day I hurt all over, next day I have a bad headache, next day not? Does anyone else out there have the same reaction? HELP...I just want to feel good again and be off all of the pills. Please post anything that may help me out. :)

Alita, I think you should at least try the antidepressant, some of them have the side effect of gaining weight, ask the Dr first.

I too have lost over 10 lbs after being on Suboxone for a little over 1 month? Not sure what is going on? I read that is a side effect from it, will it go away?

My dr put me on a antidepressant too
(amitriptyline HCL .25 mg). I thought that was making me loose weight at first (side effect), so I stopped it to see which drug was doing it, I still dont know. I am going back on it to hopefully gain weight. I also started a probiotic the other day to releive my puking, nauseau from Suboxone, Are you puking or have nausea from Soboxone? That is a side effect too. The Dr said that will go away too but it has not, might have lessened if anything

I guess I'm experiencing depression and anxiety and it may be from the weight loss or too much weight loss! I am now drinking Equate liquid nutrition drink hoping it will put back on the pounds but I want to eat not drink all my calories!

Please keep me posted on the weight lose ok, I am in the same boat as you!

Thanks, El
PS...where was the Suboxone when I needed to loose the weight? LOL, just kidding :)

I have been on subs for about 18 months now and lost 70 pounds. Before I started taking the suboxone, I was a heavy opiate user and drinker---the suboxone has not only put a stop the opiates but now my desire for alcohol is totally gone---I have since changed my eating habits and I am a little more active. I went from a size 18 at 220 pounds to a size 10 at 160 pounds. I do have an incredible sweet tooth as most opiate abusers do. We are now supplementing with sweets. Doesn't matter if I was taking percs or suboxone I always had the constipation problem. I have tried almost everything out there and tonight I will try Miralax. I hope this works as good as everyone says. I will probably be on suboxone for a long time, as I know what my weakness is in life, I need to get this constipation under control. Good luck to all!!!

Suboxone itself has nothing o to directly with weigh gain or loss. However the effects do... Example most people on subs are very lazy an enjoy watching tv an eating sweets alll day rather then Being active. This will surely
Gain your weight. Some people feel nauseous at first so they don't eat, that looses you weight. Get it? Suboxone itself dosent cause weight fluctuation but the effects the drug has on people does. Stop being lazy and go for a hike!

Wow!! Judging a little wouldn't you say??? I work out everyday and don't eat much and the weight gain started immediately after taking the subs. Get it?? Medications do mess with the watt your body regulates temperature, the way it suggests food, stores food, etc.
Not everything can be solved with a hike...

You must have a thyroid problem.. I have read studies that show bupe(drug in subs) dosent fluctuate thyroid levels at all in numerous cases studied. Maybe your getting older? Maybe you hit your metapouse?you should go a doctor because it's not the suboxone doing it. You'd be surprised how many calories are in things, even If you eat a little of the wrong food, if you eat over your daily caloric intake you'll gain weight regardless of the gym. Go get your thyroid levels checked!bupe is a OPIATE it dosent affect metabolism of thyroid at all do some research if you will. I'm not judging also I sayin fom experience suboxone makes everyone I know on it super lazy and content with doing nothing all day because your buzzed all day

I've been to an Endocrinologist, my thyroid is fine., I eat healthy, I could probably work out more but that wouldn't account for the extreme weight gain.. When I 1st started taking suboxone w/in 1 yr I gained 70#, I was not lazy I worked fulltime plus some and managed a household on my own. I then went to nursing school and completed with honors! Also I worked during school. I have lost about 25# but the other is hard to get off, I have NEVER weighed this much in my life- even when I was pregnant! It really pisses me off when you stereotype people that are taking Suboxone. I am sure there are some people that lay around and watch tv all day who take suboxone, but there are alot of overweight people in this country who don't take suboxone. I don't have to research it...I'm loving it!

Hey, it's probably your age then... You'd be surprised how much the body changes from about 22 on, it seems weight sticks more an we could eat anything and not gain a pound in are younger years. I'm not sure your ag e I'dGuess this is happening tho I'm on subs too and was gaming weight and realized why.now I eat healthy,
Count calories and am achieving my ideal weight with no interference from suboxone. Trust me it's not the subs!!

You gained 70 pounds in one year!!! Lol and you really think you did this eating normally? Cmonn stop putting the blame on a drug and just say I ate to much and need to make a change to get healthy again! Anyone person with half a brain knows a drug dosent puy 70 lbs on a person it's scientifically impossible. I didn't even think that was physically possible to gain 70 lbs in a year, fast food much?genetics? Are your parents bigger?

You know, Mr. BRAN (AKA "mr. know it all")... .you're kind of pretty much a flat out D*$K!

You should be ashamed of yourself for judging people that you dont know...
If suboxone related weight gain/weight loss is NOT related what-so-ever, how do you explain the fact that this whole FORUM was created and has been responded to hundreds ot times because people like myself have mysteriously put on a large amount of weight As SOON AS we started the drug suboxone when still continuing to eat the same things, incorperate exercise into our days, etc?? .
Since you're being so judgemental.. I'm going to go ahead and ASSUME some things about you...

1.) You've had enough lazy-time within your're boring a$$ day to "google" this forum or stumble upon it because you obviously have no social life, at all!
2.) You're obese or have been in the past and feel the need to hate on others ONLY because they can't see you or your ugly face.
3.) What's even worse about you is that your overall attitude is so terrible, you dont have anyone to love you.
4.) I know you're so unconfident in yourself by the fact that you feel as though you need to put down others to make yourself feel better, smarter, thinner, and more educated than everyong else who's been brave enough to share their stories on this website.

BUT GUESS WHAT??? .... Your NOT smart!!!! I'll also give you some advice in my "old age" (i'm 24 by the way) ;
Karma is a bigger B!^c# than even you will ever be!!!!!
So why don't you go ahead and google something like how you should go about curing that sickness in that big ol' head of yours. I would try something like... "how can an insecure, sad excuse for a boy, find a way to cure himself, move on, get a life, find some friends that might find something about you that they can actually put-up with enough to hang out with you once or twice", and "how to stop judging others based on a few paragraphs in a forum?" and maybe.."how to use time more resourcefully instead of wasting your time unsuccessfully trying to make other peoples' days terrible"... You'll never truly be happy in life if you keep up this S#!t. That, I can promise you.
I wish you the worst karma you'll ever experience, and by the way... GROW THE F $%^ UP!!!!!
.....mmmmmk pumpkin? have fun trick-or-treating... or stealing candy from littlel kids and calling it trick-or-treating...
Do yourself and everyone else a big favor and don't be such a waste of life. Do our country a favor and find something productive to do with your (obviously open) schedule.
Peace out loserrrrr.

All I can do is laugh at this haha, you went hard lol! Good job, go eat a cookie, you know your describing yourself in your "check list " haha so just stop stop haha. I hate the animals called humans so yes I don't go out much but that's a personal choice I have plenty of friends. I love sitting home on a Friday night educating myself through books and such and hanging out with my pets. But I bet you party it up have a great time on the weekend! Good Job man! Keep it up'!haha

Also I want even mean I'm really confused how can you get so angry over a forum someone said not even directed at you. Seems like you need some love in your life.I wasn't mean at all so I'm confused? Your Ego seems Huge, I used to be like you, but I killed my ego and was reborn. You seem to care greatly about your "status" to other people and how they view you. If your "cool" or not. Trust me none of that matters, be happy within and that's all that matters. A few good fiends are better then a lot of okay friends.maybe you should see a physiatrist to talk about your anger and rage inside of you. They can help people like you!! I hope you find peace within and stop hating the world! Peace and namaste!

You called people lazy and are judging people. That is mean! Sorry for blasting you, but seriously...stop judging a book by the cover.. If you understand what I'm saying. I know you said nothing to me personally, I'm standing up for everyone who is going through this weight gain struggle with suboxone. If you don't have the issue, than don't act like you know how to cure it all. That's all I'm sayin'

I have been addicted to heroin for a while and I stopped the first time because it actually CAUSED me to gain weight. I have been struggling with anorexia for years and I stopped using because of this. Recently I started using again after I went to rehab for my eating disorder. This is my first day of taking suboxone, and this came up on the internet. Will you gain weight even if you don't eat anything? The prospect of gaining weight terrifies me and if this turns out to be true I would rather go through the withdrawls then become fat. Please help me.

No you obviously won't gain weight if you don't eat anything how would that be scientifically possible? Eat healthy and keep active and you won't gain weight trust me

How is it scientifically possible ? It's called having a lower metabolism while taking suboxone, genius... The same amount of food and exercise affects people in different ways
