Difference Between Hydrocodone Aceta And Hydocodone Apap

Been taking Mallinckrodt 7.5 mg/325 mg ACETA Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetamininophen color white, for quite awhile due to back pain untreatable by surgery. Just switched pharmacies due to retirement. The new pills are by a company called Qualitest 7.5 mg/325 mg APAP color peach. I have taken the new ones for over a week and have noticed more back pain and the pills are not as effective as the Mallinckodt. I would like to take the new ones in somewhere? To be tested to see if they are what they are suppose to be, where would I go for that?

They both contain the same active ingredients, Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen, APAP is just medical speak for the Acetaminophen.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

However, under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, there is an allowable difference between generics and the name brand, in the amount of the active ingredients, of as much as plus or minus 20%. They also do not have to measure against other generics, only against the name brand, thus it is conceivable that the ones you've received from your new pharmacy may be a little lower in them, than the other one was, so it may not be working as well for you. The differences do add up to just slight amounts, so most people will adjust within a week, or so.

As to having them tested, there is no specific place you can take them, any lab can do it, but it would have to be done at your own expense.

There is a Big difference! I had taken the new ones by Qualitest for 16 days and had back pain so bad that I was spending all day on the couch with a heating pad. Talked with a friend who is a retired pharmacist, and she told me they had a lot of complaints from customers on a variety of meds put out by Qualitest that were below par and customers complaining about them to the point they quit receiving pills from that company. I went thru hell to get rid of 236 pills to a dump drop off for medicines which in turn they had to call my doctor to verify I had disposed of the pills so they could issue a new prescription. So I just threw away $53 and had to fork out the same amount for new pills from Mallinckrodt. Will be looking for a different RX company, since Qualitest is what they use for their mail orders.

Thanks for your reply. It was the brand name Qualitest. Found out from a pharmacist friend that a lot of people were complaining about their medicine through this company that the pharmacy quit getting medicines from Qualitest. It was quite an ordeal to dispose of the pills and get a new RX from the doctor for hydrocodone through Mallinkrodct. Found out Humana uses Qualitest for mail order request.not good.

Good luck with that! I hope u have good funds available to you! I would love to do the same with bogus norco that I received. I have gone into more detail on this site, but I have heard from many people that this process is VERY EXPENSIVE! I KNOW this crap I got is VERY defective, if not dangerous - wish I could afford to have it tested. I will save the defective meds & try to consult with a lawyer. If there's a legal case, the lawyer can get them tested. A lot of hassle I'm sure, but something needs to be done about this!
