Dicto Patient Confidntiality Breech Of
Updatedsince when does a LPSW, LQSW and OQSW have the right to be in consult room with you and your Doctor - as well as actually tell, not discuss current medications which I, the patient, have been taking for over a year and a half . Does HIPAA protect me as well a informed consent for a third party to invite themselves into the actual discussion/consutation?

A dr has the right to have anyone in the exam room they wish. Usually, the person is introduced and if the patient is uncomfortable, the patient can ask the dr if the other person can leave. But, it depend on why the person is there, if the dr will agree to them leaving. It will also depend on who they told your list of meds to and why. If they were gossiping with a friend at lunch, that is different than sharing that info with another health care professional as part of their job.
Now days with the Prescription Monitoring Programs and people not being properly trained and the rate of turn over in drs offices and pharmacies, our medical info is no where near as secure as it was 10 yrs ago.
