Dangers Of Mirtazapine (Page 4)

Updated

It seems to me that Mirtazapine is a potentially dangerous drug with little information known about it. My veterinarian prescribed this drug in small quantities for my cat as an appetite stimulant, so I began reading articles on the drug and its effects. Although it is supposed to be used as an antidepressant for humans, it has a wide reputation for causing suicidal tendencies in children and young adults. It causes weight gain (the side effect my vet was looking for in my cat's case). It also can cause feelings of depression, and wooziness. I spoke with a nurse who took it and she said the effects of sluggishness and dizziness lasted 2 to 3 days. It can also cause nausea and headaches. It seems to me that these side effects are anything but what a person who is already depressed should be feeling. (suicidal tendencies that they didn't originally have, feeling tired and unwell physically, and weight gain that could cause feelings of insecurity or increased depression) Giving this drug to my cat was the worst thing I ever did. About an hour after administering it to her, she began crying, looking confused, and she could not walk straight. We figured the effects would wear off, but they seemed to worsen. The next day she was holding her head down, walking in circles (trying to walk straight) and she could not focus her eyes. We brought her to the emergency animal hospital, and they called a poison center. Even the poison center had so little information on this drug (especially being prescribed to cats) that they did not know how to counteract the effects. We believe that the drug actually caused a mild stroke in our cat, and the vet said this looked like it might be the case. On top of that, it has a 72 hour half life, so we just had to wait the drug out for her to even feel better. If this drug could cause a mild stroke in my cat, I could only imagine what it could also do to a human. With so little knowledge of the effects, and such long-lasting effects, it seems to me that it is a dangerous and harmful drug for doctors to be prescribing. A few years from now, when it actually is studied more, I bet that it will be taken off the market as another one of those trial drugs that did not work out. Until then, how many people (and animals) will it harm?

Hello again - As promised, I am posting a complete list of all the drugs used on Shoney in the last 5 months. You're right to believe, based on this list, that my pet was a guinea pig.....the miracle of it all is that she has survived it and is still here. The drugs and her reactions are as follows:

1. Penicillin - This drug seemed to be the least offensive to her system except to her stomach which was irritated.

2. Amoxicillin - Very severe stomach reactions, body stiffness, all over sick from it.

3. Clavamox - Became almost a frozen, stiff statue on it, unable to finally move, lost all energy, coat dull and totally lifeless. Finally totally collapsed and accutely poisoned by it.

4. Flagyl - Made sick by it, eating went downhill, acted weird and crying and listless and lost weight.

5. Baytril injections (2) - lst one worked wonders, 2nd one had opposite effect, collapsing her and shutting down her ability to eat, swallow, move her tongue correctly. In 1 day, after shot, looked like she was dying, with whole system shutting down.

6. Benedryl - Caused extreme sleepiness, drugginess with disorientation, appetite gone, unwilling to even move, lifeless and collapsed. Spent 1 entire night throwing up after 6 mg. of this and only 1 small dose of Eurythromicin, until she was totally dehydrated and had to have subcutanious fluids put in her to revive her.

7. Mirtrazapine - Extreme body temperature rise, heart palpitations, eyes fully dialated for hours, uncontrollable gorging on food, extreme aggitation, crying non-stop, pawing at me to DO SOMETHING to make it stop for hours afterward......read full account in earlier posting. THE MOST EVIL OF ALL DRUGS GIVEN HER OF ALL TIME!

8. Tramadol - liquid pain medication. One dose and she tried turning herself inside out gagging, wretching and spitting copious amount of drool out her mouth trying to choke it out. Acted as if it was pure poison going into her and her instinctive reaction was to throw it up.

9. Sucralfate - for stomach problems ......temporary fix to her stomach distress that over time causes constipation, even severe constipation.

10. Liquid Laxative (prescription) - 1/2 of recommended dose always caused extreme diarhea including a couple of times where stools were filled with bloody discharge and pus.

11. Terramycin - Eye ointment for eye infection. Most innocent of eye meds, with only surface irritation initially. Didn't cure infection.

12. Triple antibiotic eye ointment (Meomycin, Polymyxin B, Bacitracin Zinc Ointment combo) - did more to control eye infection that first drug, but caused increasing lack of being able to smell her food and lethargy of eating. Did not cure eye infection.

13. Tobramycin Drops - antibiotic eye drops - seemed to cause some sort of pain to her, vague discomfort, but also seemed to make some headway initially against eye infection. In the end, however, it didn't stop the problems and again seemed to impact her eating, her sense of smell and her stomach.

14. i-drops - a lubricant for the surface of her eyes....necessary because of all the irritation the antibiotic stuff was causing. 4-5 weeks of non-stop eye treatment and she still had original problems.

15. Cosequin - a vitamin compound sold for arthritis and aging stiff joints...told by vet to get and give for all her old age pain and extreme frozen stiffness, probably due to arthritis. 3 weeks of this and she was often throwing up after eating, began showing similar signs of being in accute stomach distress and acting poisoned.

17. Glutathion - an immune system booster, supposedly. One or two tiny amounts given in her food of this and she threw everything up.

18. L-Lysine powder by Viralys - an immune system fighter for the herpes virus in cats that can cause eye infections and upper respiratory conditions. - given every day in food or syringed down her for weeks in an attempt to cure eye infections. Only increased her eating difficulties and seemed to make no difference at all...even perhaps caused additional gastrointestinal problems. Quit giving it to her.

19. Vi-Tal electrolytes - the only thing in the end that seemed to really do her some good, perk her up, give her energy and stimulate her desire to eat naturally. Still giving her it daily.

There you have the sorry list and the sorry results of all this random, poke in the dark, drug therapy. I could kick myself for falling under the spell of the vets and their supposed knowledge and expertise on animal care and actually stuffing all this down my poor kitty over a 5 month period of time. It is a true testimony to her authentic immune system that she isn't dead.

Brief update: It's Weds. and Shoney is only getting homeopathic silver drops in her eyes, her mouth and her food, along with electrolytes each day. She is sleeping copious amounts of time in deep sleep, eating again, her eyes are big and clearer than in months, her regular meowing is returning, she is interested in the outdoors she sees through the window, her sense of smell is returning slowly and she wants to cuddle right by me when I lay down. All this in only 4 days of being off all the chemical junk and being treated homeopathically very simply. I can only shake my head at the trail of tears I have been down that could have been resolved so simply, by much more natural means. People, PLEASE do your homework on these drugs...ALWAYS ask every question in the book of your vet about exactly WHY you should give it to your animal, WHAT the consequences and side effects could be, and WHAT if any benefits are really being given by the drug.....in short, does it really CURE or REVERSE the condition that you are bringing your animals in for in the first place or not. BE PROACTIVE ON THIS, PLEASE. I was not and I watched my companion almost die more than once due to misdiagnosis and experiemental drug treatment without any basis whatsoever for what they were giving, based on true scientific, verifiable tests proving conclusively what she was suffering from. It was all a guessing game, with a roulette wheel of pharmacopeia being passed out. BEWARE OF PILL PUSHING VETERINARIAN PRACTICES. Go online, dig, ask questions before you even give one dose of a chemical to your pet.
Again, good luck to all and your wonderful animal friends and companions. Love to all out there in Animal Land!

P.S. Again, folks, please overlook my occasional misspelling of drug names.....They should all be highlighted on the posting and if they are not, it is my spelling and my typing that is the fault. There is no spell check options on this posting site.....but you get the picture.

Ginger;Your Cat Shoney, has been a Guinea Pig. I was taking Amoxiicillin, When I got Infection after my Large toenails were Removed,Results were Good,,But I was off my feet for 10 Weeks. Benadryl is a Cough suppresent for People that have a cold,Not a Cat that is suffering From God Knows what your Vet is telling you.MIRTAZAPINE,Is For People that are suffering from Usually Bi-Polar & is an Antideppresent & it can really Screw you Up!! The other drugs you mentioned,I'm not familier with. You Seem to be a Rock in a Hard Place. If Your Vet Prescribed these drugs,I would ,First get another Vet,Then Find out about your Legal Options.Your Shoney is slowely being Poisened. All these drugs ,over 5 Mnths is Really Unbeileivable.I think your aware of my past postings,About Mirtazapine.I am Certain that Benydryl was not concocted for Animals,I am Certain Amoxicillin was not concocted for Animals & i'm Positive that Mirtazapine was not concocted for Animals!!! So why are Vets pushing these & other drugs,Money,They Doent give 2 S**ts about your pet.The More Scripts that He or She Writes,The more money. My Cat Stryker was taken from a woman,That had 32 cats in her trailer. The Humane society was informed & they took every Cat Out of that Trailer. It just so happened that a Nurse from our Hospital,Got Wind of what was Happining,& she drove to the trailer & at the time the Humane Society were going to put ALL the cats down,The Nurse NIKI Would have nothing of the sorts,She told a member of the Humane society she was taking my Stryker & no matter what happened,She would Fork out the Money,No Matter what the Cost. She took Stryker across the River(we are a twin City Connected by a Bridge) to the U.S. Prices over the River are Quite a bit lower than in Canada. When all was said & done,Niki was told Stryker was born with a Breathing Infection & he will have it for Life,But should not impair his Breathing. They,The Vet put Him on 2 Drugs,Which I doen't remember what they we re called,But he was evaluated,Put on these drugs & spent 3 Nights At the Animal Hospital. After 3 days.Niki was called & the Vet said Stryker was Waiting to be picked up.The Bill, 840$ & change. She Brought stryker home & it turned out 1 of her small children was an asmatic,& she had to give up Strker. She put him on our City Homepage & I called & asked why she was giving him up.She was crying on the Phone. She insisted on coming to my Apt. To Check To see if I was A Slob Or worse. She came With her 2 children & husband In tow.I passed the test I guess. Of couse the Kids were crying.I told them Anytime they wanted to see Stryker,Ask their Mom & or their dad to come check on him. They showed up, No phone call or telling me they were coming & they were quite suprized that in jst 1 Mnth,Stryker was like I had him for years. His Breathing Infection will be with him for life,The Vet told Niki So now I have a Beautiful,Getting A Little Pudgy around the middle. He is on a Diet of sorts, But ,When they took him out of that Sickening trailer,Stryker was the Runt of 1 of the litters & weighed in at 956 Grams. Niki & her Family were happy the way I keep house & the Next Day I got a Phone Call & Niki said they were on their way.15 Minutes later,Knock, Knock Guess who. That was May I beleive & I have a Beauty of a Kitty,Who is just over 5 Pnds.I offered Niki100 $ & she would have not of it.On their way out,I slipped 60$ into her Jacket pocket,Unbenounced to her. When They got home,She Called & gave Me S**t.I have not had a problem with Stryker & I hope I never Do.Niki, Can't thank you enough!!! Your Kindness & Determanation Will Foreever be Remembered!!! P.S. Unfortunately All but 4 of the Cats that were in the Trailer Had to Be put down,So my little guy is A Very,Very Lucky Lucky Little Boy. Thanks for letting me, to tell my little story!!!

Hi again - Well, Steveo59, you have a very lucky cat indeed! My 20 year old Shoney was also the runt of a litter of Kittens that was driven out into the countryside and dumped to die. The only one to survive by eating every bug she could catch as she was such a tiny thing, she was found by a small farm boy who dearly loved him. Due to terrible life circumstances for him, I ended up with her when she was only about 9 months old and here she is, still alive all these years later. Up until just the last 5 months, she has been to NO vet in over 10 years, had NO vaccinations at all until the wretched vet gave her a rabies shot on the same day he performed surgery. It's been 6 days since I took her off all the drugs and began giving her only homeopathic treatment. I'm happy to report that she is still here, eating every day, sleeping and hanging in there. Her interest in life seems to be coming back, slowly so ANY improvement is a great one.

Now, I want to share some more stuff that I am learning about correctly dealing with all the health issues cats can have. Do you know the exact name of the lung problem your cat has? I am always so suspicious of any vet who uses the word incurable. Depending on what the disease or disorder is, you may be able to greatly improve it or even eliminate it by buying a portable nebulizer and some good colloidal silver to mebulizer directly into the lungs. A very inexpensive one is available from Lambriar Veterinary Supply online. It is about $40.00 and comes with the tubing and the breathing tube that you can place in from of your cat's nose and mouth and send the fine mist of particles down the nose and airways. If your cat doesn't cooperate, you can put your animal in a small carry cage with breathing holes in it, cover with a towel and then nebulize the medicine for 15 minutes into the cage. You can do more than once a day, if situations are accute. I am ordering one myself, in order to get the silver I am using much farther down into Shoney's lungs to eradicate the last of her respiratory issues. I have dealt with Lambriar for over 20 years....they are really good solid people in Kansas. Go online and type Lambriar Veterinary Supply for their website. You can call their 800 number and they will send you a catalog if you want one also.

The next field of study that I am undertaking for the sake of my animals is switching their diet to a raw food diet .....there is a growing body of people and evidence out their that most of the current diseases that cats are coming down with are principally due the the commercial diets we are all feeding them. Go online and read sites like www.twobitdog.com/drfox and www.catinfo.org and www.catnutrition.org and www.blakkatz.com for a real beginning and eye opener to raising up cats and dogs the right and disease free way. I have already begun adding raw meat and supplementation to Shoney's food (just a tiny bit at a time to very slowly convert her to a fully raw diet over the next weeks and months). So far, she is adapting very well. I finally am feeling like I am in the driver's seat again with my cats....not some disinterested 3rd party only out to make money and push pills. It is high time we all take back out power from the medical scams going on, educate ourselves into what constitues real health and wellness for ourselves and our pets and spread the word to others. Thanks so much for all your sharing and your stories. I really love tuning in every couple of days for the updates. Good Cheer to all!

I don't believe any of the major antibiotics like Mirtazapine, Amoxicillin, Eurythromicin, Benedryl, Flagyl, etc. were ever created for animal use. How the veterinary world began using them, I don't know, but it the ONLY type of treatment you get these days when you go to the vets for help with your animals. There are alternatives, but it is very hard to find anyone out there in the vet world who is knowledgable or will point you in the right direction away from expensive drug therapy.

My vet just perscribed MIRITAZAPINE 1/4 of a pill once every three days for my 14 year old beautiful cat today. I gave him his first dosage this morning today and I AM SO SORRY I DID THIS! He has been crying all day long, walking around in circles acting confused. He hasn't slept all day and he usually sleeps most of the day. Then he vomited. He is not acting normal. There is something terribly WRONG! I am worried sick. The Vet perscribed it as a appitite inhancer but I told them he has no problem being hungry. (Don't understand why the gave it to me!) It only hurts him when he eats cause his gums and teeth are bad. He eats like a pig. All he needs is 4 bad teeth taken out and when they did the senior panel bloodwork they found out that his kidneys are just over the normal zone and just barley in the high zone. They say his kidneys are not healthy enough to do surgery on his teeth. So they perscribed me a kidney med called, Azodyl Twice in the morning and once at night. And also a shot per day of a fluid. This is suppost to cleanse his blood and help his kidneys get better. Then we can do the teeth surgery. That's when they gave me the IRITAZAPINE along with it. Ziggy my cat does not look or act like a 14 year old cat for no one believes he is actually that old. His bloodwork shows that he is extrememly healthy for his age except for the kidney thing. ALL WE WANTED WAS TO HAVE 4 BAD TEETH PULLED. I will NEVER give him this pill MIRTAZAPINE again! If my cat has a stoke or dies or never comes off of this side effect I will never forgive myself or the vet. This was all done today 11-18-10 and it is now evening. He is walking around the house like a zombie crying for no reason. I know it's not the kidney pills it's the MIRIAZAPINE I gave him this morning. I sure hope that the 1/4 pill I gave him this morning wears off. I AM NOT GIVING IT TO HIM AGAIN. I would rather just put him down. I should just go have them take his bad teeth out so he's not in pain when he eats and if he dies in surgery.... or I can just let him die on his own. Why have him die from a POISON DRUG!!! He shouldn't have to die just because of 4 teeth that need to be pulled. I am worried about Ziggy!

Ziggy - I am SO SORRY for your cat's plight and misery. Please read my entire list of postings beginning some time back in early November about Mirtazapine and all the other misterable drugs my Shoney cat was put on. You need to get to another vet IMMEDIATELY who will take out your cat's teeth. It's most likely the horrible bacteria and raging infection that is causing the kidney numbers to be higher than normoal as your cat;s poor body is having to process all that infection all the time. Please know that the Mirtazapine has a HALF life of 72 hours in your cat's body....more maybe if there are other problems. My cat too, went on one small doses of this stuff and she almost stroked out the first night, had body temperatures so high I had to pack her in ice for hours, raging gorging, pacing almost running, pawing at me franctically, crying non-stop for hours. Well, the good news (if you can call it that), is that she did survive the 1/4 dose, but it took days to work out of her system. Not long after that episode, due to other drugs she was on, a strange lump, hard and fixed to her upper jawbone, popped out on the side of her face in a 2 hour span of time.....that was a month ago. I took her off all drugs, began giving her colloidal silver, for infections and changed her diet very slowly to an all meat, mixed with raw meat diet. She is not out of the woods, the lump is still there causing her problems......after all she is almost 20....your cat seems like a teenager to me.......and every day is a challenge to keep her eating, out of pain, and sleeping peacefully. It is only a matter of time for her, I am sure....but I am determined to make her last days as natural and peaceful as possible.

For your little fur baby, I would recommend you go to a health food store and buy some colloidal silver for the bad bacteria in your cat's mouth. Don't give more than a few drops squirted into the mouth or better yet, get a very fine spray atomizer bottle, put the silver in it and pry open your cat's mouth and spray a light mist on the teeth and gums. Don't do more than a couple of time a day, until you see how your cat is processing the silver. Silver is a super antibacterial killer of things and until you can get a vet to play ball with you and take out the teeth, your cat needs some real help with the overload of germs. You should know that silver does not interfere with any other medicines. I would also give your cat electrolytes several times a day. Most pet stores do not carry such things......I get Vi-Tal from Mills Fleet Farms, 1-877-633-7456. It is rated for all large livestock, but is very good for my small cat too. Only take a pinch between fingers and add to a small bowl of water. If it's the right dose, the water should turn a very pale yellow...too bright and you have put too much in. I syringe this several times a day down my cat and she really does show the difference. I also give her a pinch of Diamond V XPC yeast (go online to order) ......this stuff has an amazing track record in animals (people too!).

Please do your homework....get another vet TODAY....don't stop calling until someone will just DO the dental. My very best to you and your wonderful companion. Shoney is sitting in my lap as I type this, purring away. A month ago, a callus vet said just put her down, she has cancer and she's so old, it's the best! HONESTLY! This is a cat who's blood panels are NORMAL and she 20 for pete's sake! She wants to eat 8 times a day, wants attention, wants to be held, has not one grey hair on her body, etc. Her whole life is a miracle as she was a runt, thrown away in the country in KS to die. 20 years later, she sits here still. Keep heart, keep trying on behalf of your baby. Let all of us know out here in cyberspace, how things go with you and yours..........

Thank you guys for your response to my post. This morning ZIGGY seems to be better. But then, I only gave him the 1/4 pill only one time yesterday. The rest is in the trash. I am wondering if I should still have his teeth pulled so his gums will heal. IS THERE A DANGER TO HAVE HIS TEETH PULLED IF HIS KIDNEYS ARE JUST BARLEY OVER THE NORMAL ZONE? I bet he'd do just fine. That't the most important part right now is getting the 5 bad teeth out and having his gums heal. Other than that he's pretty healthy for a 14 year old cat. I love him so much. I just can't expresses my anger towards this drug MIRIAZAPINE. I can't believe the vets give this out to customers pets. Haven't they heard enough bad feedback about it?

OMG!!!!!!! I just read this comment here. My baby passed on after taking this drug in less than 12 hours :-(
I AM SO PISSED!!!!!!!!!
My vet referred me to a specialist and she prescribed my baby Simba 1/4 pill 15MG every 72 hours, I followed the instruction. After taking this medication, he started reacting strangely after a few hours, he was howling and crying and wandering around.....disoriented and I thought it was a normal reaction. He threw up what I fed him and I thought it would help him to increase his appetite. DO NOT let your vet to prescribe this medication, it is POISON!!!!!!!!!
He died so fast, when he still look normal to most people (from current weight 14.5 lbs, but used to be 24 lbs at his max). I AM SO SORRY SIMBA! I feel like I've killed you instead.....

Siman -
I am SO SORRY for your loss. There is nothing anyone can say right now that will take your shock and grief away. You, like I, trusted vets to do right by our babies and let them give our precious companions this most horrible and evil of drugs, MIRTAZAPINE. It should be outlawed in the veterinary world. Please don't blame yourself.......it is the vet who is to blame for this terrible tragedy. Perhaps there should be a legal recourse for people who have had their lives wrecked by this terrible drug, MIRTAZAPINE....vets should be held responsible for the havoic they are causing people.
Again, my deepest sympathy to you.....please take care of yourself and spread the word to everyone you know to check this website BEFORE they give ANY drug to their pets. Many of us would have been spared a lot of horror and grief if we had known of this site.

Thanks for the correction about Mrtazapine and Flagyl. One is an appetitie stimulant and the other an anti-fungal, if I'm not mistaken. What in the world are vets giving Flagyl to cats for anyway??? Honestly, it all makes me sick! Update for you on my baby girl., the 20year old cat.....it's January, almost Feb. and she is still with me. Yep! The cat who was supposed to have cancer in her jaw, that a vet in early Oct. said to euthinize her immediately. I have had her on a regimen of colloidal silver, alternated with a product no one out there knows about .....street name is paradophillus........otherwise known as Living Streams Probiotics (it literally kills everything viral, bacterial, etc.) and is 100% natural. I also switched her foods to top of the line REAL foods by Natural Balance, Merrick, Wysong, Taste of the Wild and raw rabbit by Nature's Valley. She gets Lysine powder in her food, electrolytes in her water, Diamond V yeast, sometimes special fish treats and I still have to give her a very short course of basic Penicillin every other month or so for ongoing old age problems and gum disease. (By the way, Penicillin is a very old, time-honored drug in the veterinary world actually approved for use in animals. She has suffered her whole life from chronic gum and teeth problems and this treatment seems to control it fairly well.) But all in all, it is amazing that she has pulled out of all the horrible drug mis-therapy she was on, and is still with me. She a tough little fighter and has even had a few days where she has played with toys again. Pretty remarkable, considering, according to the vet, she was terminal and should be put down.

For all of you out there in animal land, let it be known that I was only told that by the vet (tp [put her down), when I said NO to all the invasive, money draining treatments, refused to play THEIR game and give them one more penny of my money. No more cash cow to drain.?........KILL THE CAT! On that day, I lost all respect for the veterinary world, believe me and it will be a cold day in @#$^# before I EVER will trust one again.

One more thing of interest to you all........within one week of bringing my cat back from the vet, saying no to all kinds of invasive stuff, including expensive surgery for "cancer", and then saying no to euthenasia, I received an arrogant letter from the veterinary clinic telling me they would no longer allow me to bring my animal there implying many things, such as I was not a compliant customer, refused to "follow" vet's instructions, treated their personal badly, etc. It was totally amazing to me, the bullying, the arogance and the creepiness of what they were saying to me. Never in 31 years of continuous animal ownership, and 25 intermittant years before that, have I ever been treated with such dismissive distain. I have relayed this letter of dismissal to Vet clinics everywhere , and no one ANYWHERE has ever heard of a vet clinic doing such a thing.

Did this vet clinic keep a thrown-away, baby cat alive, happy and going for the last 20 years? Did they know in intimate detail, her regimens,. her likes, dislikes, reactions to drugs, food, etc. and make sure she was properly taken care of? NO! When I was told, preached to, pressured, intimidated and intimated to that I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS BEST FOR MY CAT and that the VET was the ONLY ONE WHO SHOULD HAVE THE FINAL SAY OVER HER EXISTENCE AND LIFE, .believe me, I was out of there like a bullet from a gun. What unbelievable, egotistical arrogance!

So, today, my 20 year old baby says HI to all and wishes that all pet owners will think long and hard and then think again, before dragging any other precious companion through the drug mill. BE WELL! BE SAFE! BE HAPPY! And for goodness sakes, BE DISCRIMINATING ABOUT WHO YOU TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES TO!

Update: No matter how I try, I constantly misspell Mirtazapine. Hopefully, I got it right this time. I also triple checked Penicillin and yet it did not come up hightlighted. Oh well, read my post that follows for the whole story......

This is to Siman - when I posted my response to you, I think I hit the wrong "reply to" button.......please go back to the Mirtazapine site, scroll down and read my letter to you. (You can also read all the other postings above it for added information.) Again, I am so very sorry for your loss.

Thanks Ginger for your response and information. Again, I just wish that I took a few minutes of my time to find this site. It's still very painful to wake up each morning without seeing my baby Simba face that wake me up every morning and stared at me from my chest. I missed him so much and thanks again for your comfort. Probably, I may need to adopt and safe another kitty life, only an orange male cat can heal my broken heart....

I agree with the other vet. The kitty likely had underlying GastroIntestinal disease. Sad story but unrelated to the drug.

I am so sorry to read about all of this after the fact. My beloved Shadow had been losing weight, I never wanted to go back to fancy feast and tried numerous other healthy alternatives. He became dehydrated and was drinking water continuously. I noticed more dander, his sunken in body and crying more often which in the past few months i was told they were "behavioral". I brought him to the vet, He was put on subq fluids, and they added pepcid and miratapine to his routine of benazapril, cosequin and miralax. Immediately after giving him this cocktail, he vomited and screamed real loudly. I brought him in and he continued to fail. They gave him traquilizer to stabilize him so I could say my last good byes to him which I did for 2 hours. I am sick about this and wish I knew and now am doing the what-ifs again, wondering if I just reintroduced the fancy would he been ok. I am sick with grief, guilt and anger at not knowing what I did may have perpetuated his needing be put down. Please help me make some sense of all this.
