My sister is on 30mg. of time released morphine and a high dose of Percocet for her cervical cancer. My uncle is an oncologist, whom I called for advice. He suggested daladid. My son was on it whenever he was having pancreatic attacks several years ago. As he was having chronic pancreatitis for eight years. He is no longer symptamatic. Back to my sister. She is in 2b of cervical cancer. The morpine is not working and they do not want her to take percocet more than six in a 24 hour period. Hard to do when you are in chronic pain. She is taking chemoradiation. Please help me with information so we can talk to her oncologist in Iowa.

Virginia, the reason they do not want her to use more Percocet in a day is because it contains Acetaminophen and exceeding 4000mgs in a day can cause and overdose. So if she took more, it would cause many more health problems for her and possibly even death.

Since she is suffering a chronic condition causing severe pain, I have to agree with your Uncle. She needs a stronger pain regimen, ideally it should be a long acting medication such as Oxycontin or MS Contin and a short acting medication such as the Percocet which is only used 3 or 4 times a day as needed for breakthrough pain.

Since she is taking a form of MS Contin and that dose isn't working, they should up it, there are higher doses available that she can take to help with the pain. I am in pain management for a degenerative condition and I have two doses a day, one at 60mgs and one at 15mgs to help me manage my pain in the best way that suits me. As a person becomes tolerant to the current dosage, Morphine can be taken up higher and higher as needed.

The best medication she could take for pain would actually be Oxycontin, the 12 hour time release of Oxycodone.

Dilaudid actually contains Hydromorphone, which is a very strong narcotic pain reliever, but not as strong as Oxycodone or Morphine.

I think different medicine works differently for each individual. My husband had severe back pain prior to surgery. He found much pain relief from dilaudid. Morphine didn't work nearly as well for him.
