This is a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.

It is common for someone to experience elevated blood pressure, when detoxing, so it may have been prescribed as a precautionary measure. Were you prescribed any other medications?
