Chills From Oxycontin

Updated

I have been on 10mg oxycontin hcl for several years (for Stiff person syndrome & migraine). I take 4 or 5 per day. I Just got my prescription filled yesterday and notice that started having chills real bad. Has anyone else had this problem before?

It sounds like withdrawal symptoms to me? Not sure about what you can do? I would first go talk too the pharmacy and your doctor if needed.

What was the name of the manufacturer of these pills?

I'm not sure. The only thing I seen on bottle is Roxydone. I always get them filled at cvs.

Somewhere on the bottle it should say something underneath Roxycodone...
Like Purde or some other name. It is important info to know in case there is a problem with that manufacturer. Good luck...I was on heavy doses for over 3 years and it was tough getting off. Unfortunately, I recently had another double neck fusion and well....you know the rest.

I agree with Madman in that it 'sounds like' withdrawal symptoms. From what I've heard, some manufacturer's generic drugs may contain up to a 20% variance in the amount of active ingredients. So if this is true and your body is accustomed to taking a more potent drug company's product overtime then I could see how withdrawal symptoms might be an issue with any abrupt or moderate changes in both the percentage of active ingredients as well as having separate sets of binders/fillers influencing its bioavailability. To me, such changes would probably feel like a different medication altogether... However, other questions pertaining to menopause are certainly worth taking into consideration as well...

On a side note: NIH.gov does list "cold and clammy skin" as a possible side effect at:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMHT0011542/?report=details#side_effects

The idea that this drug can make one's skin feel cold tells me that "body chills" may more than likely be a side effect as well.

I hope you're able to work with your doctor until you find a manufacturer that suits you best.

OH! I just remembered!!! I started with belly disturbances and crying on OxyContin-I called the pharmacist and he said from my history, the dose was too low and he called it specifically, 'Intradose-dose Withdrawal' doctors always start too low due to fear of incomplete cross tolerance--you could tell them you take 800mgs of Ocycodone a day and instead of them giving that amount or even 750mgs...they will give you 400 so you don't die---I can see their fear but the problem is, they leave you at a too low dose forever! Good luck Sweetie!

I to have stiff person syndrome and my doctor prescribed diazepam 10mg,so I take 3 in the morning and 25mg in the afternoon and at night,he also prescribed azathioprine for immune system and Wellbutrin xl150 mg, I know it seems like a lot. but I think I was doing better with the regular green pills instead of the generic blue pills. All I can say is my life is in God's hands. I pray that you will find the answer you're looking for. in JESUS NAME.IT'S NOT EASY I KNOW.BUT PLEASE PRAY AND MAYBE GOD WILL GIVE YOU DIRECTIONS.
