Can I please have some information on the stop smoking drug Chanpix. Want to know about side affects and if required on prescription?

The correct name of the drug is Chantix, the active ingredient is Varenicline.

In the U.S. it is a prescription only medication.

It is used to treat Nicotine addiction, but works differently than Nicotine patches or Zyban.

Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, headache, insomnia and abnormal dreams.

Here's a link to our monograph for more information:

Are sore muscles and joints a side affect of this drug?

You say the correct name is Chantix, but my packet clearly says Chanpix. Are we discussing the same product?

thanks

Yes you are talking about the same product. In the US it is called Chantix and in Canada it is Champix. Chantix is only available in the US but Champix is available in both Canada and the US, but they are the same product and made by the same manufacturer, Pfizer.

Yes it is the same product. Chantix is made by Pfizer in the US and Champix is made by Pfizer Canada. Both are the exact same product by the same company.
