your doctor just said take this instead of Metropolol? I am weaning off of the (M) and I would def. call the doctor ..if you don't feel right.

but yes it is quite normal for that to happen but I would think one has to be weaned off.. are those two drugs the same in nature?
you could try some black strap molasses to slow heart rate down.. Magnesium, organic apple cidar vinegar, maybe some celtic sea salt.. if you can use these ...

A few days ago before bed time I usually take my last 1/4 pill of my meterprolol as I wean off of it.. Well my heart rate was like 52 so I didn't take that pill. I was fine for the next two days but then my heart rate started going up again and I felt uneasy and shaky and not stable. this happened to me before when I went down to 50 mgs.. I am just weaning according to how I feel and my body and not by the one size fits all cookie cutter the doctors want.. Well I felt too uneasy so I went back up to 37 miligrams again.. I have been doing this as I have said since last March.. which is 8 months... I did read a lot of things online that say some people are over sensitive to this drug and take much longer but what gets me is can I be that sensitive to this..? I am happy though I got from 100 mgs. down to 37 which was no picnic or walk in the park..........I guess I am just frustrated because it hasn't been easy and I am still on this journey and this drug has stopped my life.. LIke someone said I don't even know what my normal resting heart rate is without this drug.. sometimes I feel I am making too much out of this...I am even getting the nightmares people talk about...........plus its tough sleeping with a heart rate that is elevated..PS. forgot to add does anyone feel they are addicted to this drug.. I feel that I have become so dependent and addicted and don't know how to alleviate that..
thank you

Hello Bee and Hazel! How are you both?

Yes, you can be switched cleanly from one blood pressure/cardiac medication to another, as long as the dosage is equivalent or higher. The danger occurs if you just stop cold turkey, because that could cause rebound problems that could include severely elevated heart rate and blood pressure that may result in heart attack or stroke.

Ramipril may also cause other side effects, such as nausea, increased urination, stomach pain and hypotension.

Are there any other questions or concerns?

Verwon..... Who are you talking to? I don't take any other medication and I am weaning off Metoprolol very slowly . been almost 9 months now and yes I know of the side effects....and have been weaning as slow as I can...and taking all natural supplements in place of pharma drugs...

How are you doing with it, Bee?

What condition are you taking these medications to treat?

If it's high blood pressure, then you do have to be very careful and monitor it closely. On top of supplements, lots of exercise and watching your sodium intake can also help.

Verwon;
I was given the Metoprolol for high blood pressure and didn't read the side effects. I don't even take an aspirin..and here I am suffering from this drug now..
Yes I watch my sodium very closely and I was walking a lot but now I am afraid to walk as much because I keep getting different views on exercising when weaning. some people say its okay.. the doctor said okay but I am nervous about it.. So if I do walk I stroll and go by how I feel but I admit I am a bit nervous in trying to exercise right now.. I wish I would get some correct info..

I confess I don't take by bp everyday but doing that seems mute at this point as bp and heart rate goes bonkers when weaning lol.. I don't need to be anymore nervous as this drug has really affected many negative side effects in me. I wish I was one of those people who could cut it and be off in a few weeks but its been 8 months now and I still have issues... I am down to 25mgs. and happy about that but a lot of the time I wont go out due to afraid of side effects.. My stomach has also been on the fritz and I cant be running to a bathroom all the time and shaking and all kinds of things when out with friends..
I do take supplements such as COQ10, B complex, C, D, E, Taurine, L Carnitine, Magnesium, Alpha Lopic Acid, and everything In between to keep this bp low... I also do EFT, meditations. If none of this works then there is nothing else I can do but hope for the best..
I just wish I could find a doctor who will listen to me and whom I can trust and not think I am making this stuff up or am bonkers..
this whole process has stopped my life and messed me up big time.

thank You

Bee, if you need a medication for blood pressure to help lower it, but want something that won't cause as many side effects, you could ask your doctor about Atacand or Carvedilol.

I do understand your dilemma, that;s why I was asking for more information. I have high blood pressure myself and had congestive heart failure several years ago, due to doctors not believing me, when I said certain medications, including Metoprolol, made me sick and miserable.

After the CHF, I finally found someone in cardiology that listened and understood. She worked with me to find medications I could take, without being miserably ill. Carvedilol and Atacand are 2 of them. They are known to cause far fewer side effects than their counterparts.

Another good option is Labetalol.

Side effects typically include nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.

I think you'd do well asking your doctor about trying one of these other medications.

If you have to shoot for one, I'd suggest the Labetalol, it is so mild that it is even safely used in pregnant women.

How are you feeling today?

Thanks Verwon.. but I don't really have a doctor right now and if I can at all possible try and stay on the natural route if I can... Not that its full proof but there are literally hundreds of natural cures for many things and I will try those first before I try anymore meds.. but thanks for the tip.. I will write them down just in case.

You have no idea how much better I feel with just 25mgs of the (M). I was doing 100 mgs. a day for two years an felt aweful and then I had the side effects and then I read what that drug can do.. I was like I am getting off this... but that was not without aweful side effects .. I have to take one day at a time and cant plan anything.. but I will stick it out.. I really need to find a holistic doctor who listens to me... The last one I went to was a nightmare so I wont be going back to her. Thank You

Hi Anyone ? lol
if anyone has come off of the little pink Metoprolol pill and had to cut it down how did you do that? I have a pill cutter and I can cut down to 12mgs. and its okay but how the heck will I be able to cut that in half to 6mgs.. the pills are small and they crumble ..has anyone done the water method?

thank You

Hi
Werent there other replies on here and where did they go?
Update on me.. I am down 12mgs. of the M but still having a hard time..but its getting better. (fingers crossed)

My heart rate will go up for no apparent reason still sometimes.... It is usually in the sixties or 70's but then I am just sitting around and it goes up to 80 and that makes me feel ill and jittery and weird feelings until I take the 6mgs............I guess I shouldn't complain but it still frustrates me.............. I want to be normal again.
Oh; plus people think again its all in my head and that I have this or that and never believe me that is from this drug...............I take magnesium and one woman actually said maybe its the magnesium causing all the issues. I highly doubt it as I never had this before when I was using magnesium..
