Can U Take Subutex With Methadone

I have been taken about 60 mg of methedone a day for the last three day to come off of herion so I don't go thru withdrawl how long would I have to wait to take a subutext after the methedone

Hi zach,

To help answer your question, a lot of patients recommend having at least a 24 hour gap in between switching over to subutex. However this is only intended to be an estimate since each person may metabolize meds differently. If you start taking the subutex too early, you may not feel much from the buprenorphine right away, but others say that it should kick into gear as you continue treatment.

Apparently when your receptors are filled with methadone, buprenorphine may take the methadone off of the receptors and cause precipitated withdrawal syndrome; whereas symptoms that are normally experienced over several days are then compressed into a period of several hours, with headache, cramping intestines, diarrhea, vomiting, restless legs, etc...

Methadone's long elimination half-life of anywhere between 8-59 hours might also make things a little difficult when considering a switch from one drug to another. Again, this is only an estimate and you should probably ask your doctor for assistance if you need help finding a proper dosing regimen to make the transition a little easier.

Dammit its 2:30 am..I have to work in like 3 hrs! I have read every damn thread on every page and still no answer because people are confusing subutex with suboxone!!! They arent the same! Can I frickin take this damn pill that chick gave me or am I going to start s***ting myself and kicking sweating hatin life!! (I'm on a choke amount of methadone) I can't frickin sleep and I want to relax!! I don't see why I'd go into immediate withdrawal since SUBUTEX doesn't have narcan like SUBOXONE! Damn I wish you guys would just read it and not confuse the two! I don't know man. All sketched out now. I don't want to guinea pig it either. DAMN!!!

You cannot take suboxone until you 1 month off of methadone. I tried it and just about killed myself from jerking my steering wheel all over the road unwillingly and had someone been coming I would have had a head on collision.This was after no methadone in 3 days. I went to the emergency room and was told I would have to wait a month.

Wait 48 hours at least. Precipitated withdrawals after methadone are bloody common. Just oxycontin would be 24 hours

The naloxone isnt the problem. the bupe will knock off the opioid molecules from the receptors (as it's a partial antagonist) and this equals precipitated w/d = please God kill me.

Been on methadone three years skipped one day but took half a white subutex pill and went into bad withdrawal Don't do it felt like I was dying ! Wait at least 24 hours if u are in withdrawal try to sweat the subutex out worked for me but scary as hell feels like impending doom .made me feel like I was tripping and not a good trip lol like a bad trip with withdrawals .all I can say is don't switch.unless u wait 24 hours.

My Dr. will not put you on it unless you are on a very low dose of methadone, like maximum 10 mg.
