Buprinorphine Patch For Chronic Pain

Updated

I am a 50 year old female, with chronic interstitial cystitis, severe fibromyalgia, and cluster headaches, oh, let's not forget panic attacks and anxiety. I am in miserable pain and live on the couch, I have no life at all. I have had these medical problems since I was 25, however, the fibromyalgia did not really hit until 2 years ago. I chose to take suboxone for pain even though I am not an addict. I am afraid of pain specialist because in the late '90s was way over medicated by one. I have tried all the non narcotic treatments for the fibromyalgia to no avail. Has any one used the buprinorphine patch for pain? The suboxone worked great until the fibromyalgia hit, it just will not touch it. Nurontin works great, but makes my feet and legs swell. For the suboxone to even make the fibromyalgia half way bearable it takes 4 8mg films a day. My doctor just will not work with me. Now I am facing going into withdrawals. I live 70 miles from San Antonio, TX. Does anyone out there know of a good pain specialist NOT affiliated with Consultants in Pain, I got crossways with them, it had nothing to do with overtaking medication, just so you know. I'm terrified and alone. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Victoria, Sorry I,m not from TX. so can,t help you. 32mg/day is way to much of this stuff. Your at the "ceiling" dose, meaning anymore won,t do anything for you. Good luck in your Dr. search. You should try coming down on dose weekly. It helps to be at lowest dose possible when you finally come off subs. You may even find your getting the same pain relief on a lower dose. I,m no Dr. This is just my opinion. Good Luck.

Hello, Victoria! How are you?

The active narcotic in Suboxone is actually Buprenorphine.

Learn more Suboxone details here.

So, if it hasn't been helping your current pain, then it is doubtful that the patch is going to change that.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Have you ever tried the Fentanyl patch?
