I am advised to take atocor 10 for breathlessness while walking. Its use has benefitted me to a great degree. Unfortunately my doctor has left the hospital and I do not know how long to take it. What side effects it can cause ? How long can I take it safely ?

I did my lipid profile and my Triglycerides is 197mg/dl
Total Cholesterol is 281 mg/dl
LDL Cholesterol is 169 mg/dl.
For all this my doctor has prescribed `Atorvastatin Calcium tablets (Storvas 10) and Ecosprin-75.
One tablet of each to be taken for 3 months..
I want to know whether there are any side effects and whether i would have to take these tablets now for life long or can i stop them after 3 months, once my cholestoral levels and triglycerides come down..
