Hello, Ken! How are you?

The name brand Zohydro and the time released formulation is new, but the active ingredient itself isn't. It contains Hydrocodone, the same opiate that's in Norco, Lortab and Vicodin, just without the Acetaminophen.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

It is a very effective and potent analgesic, however, no one can say how well it will work for you. The only thing you can do is try it and see.

What dose of Oxycontin are you taking?

Hi, I've been on zohydro 15mg for 3 months now for chronic back pain. I will say it does help a lot but sometimes I will get a sharp pain mid-day & cannot take another zohydro which would be ineffective anyway for it takes 2 hours to kick in. So my Dr Judy reluctantly started me on norco 7.5 for breakthrough pain. It is an overall good med. It won't make you feel high but seems to give a little energy & overall good pain relief. If you've been taking stronger meds like Percocet or oxy I don't think it would help much.
