Alcohol And Gabapentin (Page 3)

Does anyone drink beer or other alcohol while taking this? I start on it tonight, increasing every 5 days to 900 mg total a day. I'm curious as to how much alcohol can be tolerated and if there are any reasons to avoid it completely. I like my Budweiser. Thanks for any input.

Waking up to edema in my legs and increase in the minor side effects. I just looked up this thread because last night I had 1 beer and a tiny bit of vodka which I knew I should not. For about a month I've been on gab 300 mg for some neuropathy left over from chemo treatments. Based on this I think people should abstain from drinking if you have any question about it.

Don't mess around. Alcohol does weird bad things to me on this.

I was on gabapentin 400 mg for nerve pain from a surgery called Arnold Chiari which I had about ten years ago I was having nerve pain and my neurologist said it was from scar tissue. I had to increase it to 800 mg but now I'm having bad depression from it.

Excessive need of caffeinated beverages to counteract the tiredness. Alcohol tolerance down to where it's not worth the trouble. Unexpected diarrhea on occasion after drinking a small amount. Fatigue along with a low libido is not good either. Have a nice day

Picked up my adult son from the ER this morning after he was brought in by ambulance after drinking probably too much but not an excessive amount. He was found blacked out on the street and fought the EMTs, so he was put in soft testraints. He thought he was being kidnapped but other than that, he remember parking the car (thank God he didn't try to drive) and waking up in the hospital many hours later and nothing in between. I have noticed a kind of "invincibility" behavior with just a beer or two before. He takes 1800 mg gabapentin plus baclofen daily for RSD/CRPS. Has some sweling and bumps and bruises but nothing major ... yet. His friend had called it a night and assumed he had gone home hours earlier. ER report says only "alcohol intoxication" but it was much more. If you must drink while taking gabapentin, take it easy and make sure you have friends to help you stay safe. You may not be tolerating it as well as you think you are.

It will lower your tolerance to where your out of control staggering,and doing dumb stuff before you know it.
if you must try not drinking anymore than half of what you used to..

I have stomach burning the day after drinking a few alcoholic drinks. The alcohol isn't worth to me the way my stomach burns.

100mg is really a low dose if that is per day. I don't think so, but take it easy.

I'm 31 and have been taking gabapentin 600 mg every night before bed since I was 17. I honestly have a few glasses of wine a night and do go out drinking with friends a few times a month. I haven't noticed anything unusual with mixing the two of these. I recently have had bad episodes drinking and blacking out especially with liquor but I'm positive it was because of the klonopin I just had been prescribed which you should never drink on.. (That's what lead me to check on the drinking effect with the two medications that lead me to this thread) An anti-anxiety medication would cause more of what your describing with the husband fighting thing than the gabapentin.

That's a pretty low dose. I take 900mg three times a day for chronic nerve pain. 2700mg total. I'm a tea totaler now.

I started gabapentin 300mg 3x daily 2 months ago for neuropothy. Had to stop for a week because of other issues. I would have shot myself if I had a gun! This med is a lifesaver for me. I willingly gave up any alcohol per docs orders. I would give up almost anything for the relief thos has given me!!!

massive headache! MIGRAINE ! I drank on gabapentin and BOOOOOOM!! Strange how it does not affect some people though.

I take gabapentin 3 x day 300 mg then 900 at night also 25 mg seoqel 200 mg of seretrilin.5 mg clonazapan as needed
I'm very unsteady and sometimes dizzy I also started taking 30mg of cymbalta
Can I drink? Vodka or wine?

Colleen NO! You are already on enough mood altering meds, know wonder your so dizzy. Drinking will just make your symptoms worse. Im on similar meds and have had to work very hard with my doc to avoid side effects. Finally on a good routine and well controlled. hope this helps.

I was on 300 mg gabapentin 3 times a day, wasn't doing me much good so he gradually increased it to 600 3 times a day, still no relief but I found it made me suicidal, I felt absolutely horrible, had to decrease it back to the original dosage. The info that came with it states that it can make you have bad thoughts, didn't say suicidal but I'd say that's a bad thought. I don't get much pain relief but I'm restricted to what I can take because I'm on warfarin . I'm taking pain relief for a crushed vertebrae.

Don't be a pussy. If anything you'll feel more elated from just a couple drinks. I don't reccommend you polish a liter or more while on it. I think you'll live. Sources: I'm prescribed it too
