This is a muscle relaxer called Carisiprodal or Soma. Soma is he name brand. It is non-narcotic but can still make you tired so be careful. It is typically used for muscle strain, back strains etc.

MP58 is one of the Watson lab generic designations for Soma. It is an FDA approved non-narcotic in the US, and I was told by 3 doctors that it is over-the-counter, and used primarily for anti-seizure, secondary for muscle relaxor. The truth seems to be that it contains a precursor tranquilizer to valium. That drug is called neprobromate, milltown, and who knows what else. It is bad for the heart, and becomes addictive because the tranq is only included as a trace amount, from what I have learned after 14 years. The tranquilizer additive seems to be addictive, especially when prescribed at 2 tablets/ 4 x /day. That is 240 tabl;ets of a drug that contains a tranquilizer. Withdrawal symptom are many, including anxiety, irritability, and seizures if withdrawal is abrupt. Wallace Labs invented Soma, and lists in the information to pharmicists that its chemical composition resembles the tranquilizer. According to a chemist at one of the pharmaceutical companies, it turns into the tranquilizer in the liver. There is a mystery about how this kind of drug can be approved as non-narcotic by the FDA. Obvious, however, is that is a great benefit to the companies that produce it. There are no programs set up by those companies to assist anyone who becomes addicted to Soma. That would be tantamount to an admission of the inherent dangers of the medication. Suggest staying away, but you don't have to believe me since I am a victim of a large initial prescription (240/mo.) when I requested a nonarcotic after a car accident in May/1992. I don't know if there is any example of a longer clinical trial than myself. I have had seizures caused by withdrawal from this drug every year since 1999. In order to ascertain if the car accident(s) caused seizure activity to develop, I subjected myself to an ambulatory 72-hour EEG
and the results were negative. My battles are not 100% over, but getting better. Living alone is a detriment to the effort that I feel safe with. No in- or outpatient rehab that I have spoken to will assist me because they have stated that they will not be reimbursed by the governemnt because of the FDA designation.

I don't know what doctor's you have talked to because it IS NOT over the counter. As a pharmacist I can tell you that you are the first person I have ever heard of in my thirty years that got addicted to it. Also, chemically, it is not a sedative and does not turn into sedative in the liver. You had better find some better doctors and chemists before you make claims like that.

Neneene blasted me pretty good. Unfortunately, for me at least, I was being truthful. I only spoke to about eleven doctors, but there is a diffence between pharmacists and doctors which is not a slap at pharmacists. It is seemingly a situation that is part of the definitions of the different disciplines. Rehab people insist that it a mysterious and complicated medication. One person told me that he had been treating people for Soma addiction for ten years. Admittedly, it should at least be mentioned without endorsing an indictment, of private rehab facilities. I read about one that bragged about its luxurious accomadation. It a not something that I want to get more personal about, sinc eit does seem to have differnet side effects on an individualized basis. It would be irresponsible for me to, as a patient, claim to know more than the chemists, pharmacists at the companies that produce the medication fro sale, to state that an individual's experience should be put on a label.

Apologies to neneene, it is from what i was told over-the-counter in Europe. I don't know for certain whether it is the tranquilizer neprobromate or soma that the doctors meant was the one. However, if a felony 4 narcotic is metabolized by the body when taking soma, how can you help reconcile the difference.

It was not my intent to blast you only to make certain that people had the correct information, as much as possible. You are right though..different medications do affect different people in different, individual ways. I wonder though..were you on any other medications while on the SOMA that might have heightened the addiction? Just curious.

No. I requested a nonnarcotic because I did not want to continue with fiorinal/codeine#3. Doctor was willing to precribe practically anything, but I wanted non-narcotic. Do you know anything about how Soma is used Europe? Did 3 doctors tell me a fib? Why would I make up something as far-fetched as knowing how it is used overseas? I am really interested in the truth. Everything that I have posted here is what I have either been led to believe by experience or from doctors and pharmicists.

I don't believe you made it up at all, just that it only takes one doctor to tell another doctor, to tell another, etc. They aren't above passing incorrect information around. I don't know much about how Soma is used in Europe but I am going to find out. I will let you know what I find out.

I was hoping that since neneene123 responded so quickly that I may get some independent information just as quickly. I am not complaining, and am still looking forward to whatever additional research is provided.

I've sent some emails out to other pharmacists across the country but since it is a week-end we might not hear anything quickly. Also, I have begun my own research. I promise to get back just as quickly as I can.

The peach colored football shaped pill with G on one side and EN 10 is a blood pressure medication. It is a generic form of Vasotec. The generic is Enapranil. It is a beta-blocker used to control high blood pressure.

Paul: I'm still awaiting some answers regarding the Soma. I, myself am in the midst of moving from one house to another so I am a little busy. I promise to look into matters more closely once the move is complete. I'm sorry that I haven't gotten to this yet. I don't always have the time to go to this website as the move is taking a lot of time. Thanks for understanding!

neneene123 has proven to be an extremely considerate person, who also happens to be a pharmicist. Highly recommend reading replies posted this person.
P.S. Good luck with the move

Thanks Paul. I have been moving all day and took a 10 minute break to check e-mail. Hopefully, my own computer will be hooked up by Monday so I can help others identify more meds. I enjoy doing this since I am now staying home raising foster children

nenene123,

I know what moving can be, but not what you wil deal with having foster children as well. I hope everything gets done according to your timetable.
I am spending my time doing my best to help an autistic boy, and my son with whatever comes up. My girlfriend, i think, is the mother of the sautistic boy. Altruism is time-well spent for people in our situations. My e-mail is [email protected]. I thought you would reply to that e-mail. Now I beleive it would be better since there are more elements of life than the pill-posting site. Just a suggestion, or maybe a question would be more appropriste.

The pill that says PAR 877 is a generic medication called Paroxetine (I think that's how it is spelled.) The name brand is Paxil. It is an anti-depressant. It can cause sleepiness, dizziness, weight loss, etc.
