Can You Take Benzos While You're On Suboxone? (Page 3)

I've been seeing a lot of posts regarding taking benzos while on Suboxone. It is ok to take a benzo w/ suboxone - as long as you're taking the prescribed dosages you'll be fine. Now if you're taking 3 or 4 8mgs of Suboxone and say 5 or 6 Xanax that's not good, that's where the reported deaths have come from. I've been on Subs for 5 yrs. I've also been subscribed klonopin and am currently taking valium w/ it and it's fine. I'm on a low dose and only take what I am prescribed.

I had six surgeries and am currently taking suboxone for pain not for detoxing. The reason I chose suboxone was that I had to take other prescribed pain meds that werent working for me and I did not to become addicted I found a doctor who works with pple that have head trama as in my case I did suffer bad injury so he gave me klonopin. My p a is against it event though I seize on antidepressants and antibotics and when i get infection i end up in hospital from infection i need a good nuero doctor i live in boston.

The question is not whether his spelling is correct it is about his medication.Is this a spelling bee or a source of information about medication.What a petty answer.If you think his or hers answer is wrong then supply them with information pertaining to subject not a remark about their spelling.

I make mistakes myself in typing a question or a answer but the forum is that you are seeking a answer about what you are taking and to make sure if it is all right or not.Nobody is perfect and i mess up all the time whether it be this forum or another.

Suboxone truly helped me overcome my addiction to opiates. For financial reasons, I only used the suboxone short term, but so far, I am doing great. I think you have to want to be done with opiate use. I felt great after starting suboxone. However, it caused me to vomit frequently. I am not currently on anything and feeling wonderful. I do not ever want to go down that path again. Opiate addiction can and will ruin your life if you do not use them properly. I commend anyone who takes the step to help themselves. Keep up the good work.

Hi Emily, i just wanted to share my experience, hope it helps...I had gastric bypass surgery in May of 2003...i had a horrible staph infection about 2 weeks after the surgery and had to go back into the hospital to have it drained followed by daily visits from a nurse to my home to pack it, and make it heal from the inside out...i did really well for the next year being on a very low dose of xanax and no opiates...but little did I know that the site of the staph infection was weakened, since then I have had 9 herna repair surgerys, in the same spot on my lower abdomen leaving tons of scar tissue and nerve damage...I've had a surgery almost every year since...so i could never be off of the pain killers, it is like a cycle...but what happened last month was a real eye opener....i took my supply of percocet in a week, thats more than 10 a day....i called my pain management and they said sorry can't help u...so i was kinda forced into detoxing myself...I have finally realized that I am completely addicted, It isn't my fault that I've had a long road full of surgery's but its my fault now if I don't take action now...it's been 3 weeks, without pain meds except for Advil, The withdrawal is horrible, i even went to a methadone clinic, they turned me away because I am on 10 mgs of valium 5 times a day which is a crazy high dose...for a good 12, 13 days i had cold sweats, going from 3 to 4 shirts a night and and had to change my sheets from profusley sweating, i also had severe shaking, weakness (kinda like flu symtoms) body ached especially...heart palpitations, i couldn't even talk without studdering, i couldn't even pic up a can of soda without it spilling it...i had a high fever on and off....now that i'ts been 3 weeks the withdrawal has gotten much better, but i still am having cold sweats sometimes, one day at a time hope it helps!

LOLOLOLOL I just found this post while searching for suboxones' affects on drug tests... The original post made me lol so hard...subscribed dose. Can you please tell me where you get subscribed for xanax, so I can get a subscription as well.

Soboxone really does work, I don't care what anyone says. I was on pain pills for eight years and I took what ever I could get my hands on, I would take large amounts daily. When I didn't have anything I would start withdraweling fast and bad. I thank god everyday for friends and family who helped save my life. I met a girl who took me to her soboxone doctor, I've been under his care since. It's going on a year, I finally feel like the person I once was. It will always be a battle, but I NEVER want to go back to that life again. I lost too much because of my addiction, including my best friend, my wife of nearly twenty years. If you really want to be clean, if you really want to leave this nightmare behind you get help now! Don't wait another day, you may not have another day.

I also agree about not giving advice unless you are a medical professional. People have other varying conditions, and what is good for some may not be good for all. I was STRICTLY advised no benZos while on suboxone.
Also while searching this subject, your post "its ok to take benzos" popped in Google!! Not very reassuring.

i've been on suboxone for about a year and the instant you take it your w/d symptoms go away. and i take a half twice a day. it really does work. good luck :)

i must agree valiums do seem weaker then thew rest of the benzo family.....i take 4mg xanax daily along with 16mg of soboxone and i feel GREAT!! "JUST SAYN"

Yes.. Suboxone will help very much just as long as you don't plan on staying on the subs for a long time.. I started at 14 mg subs and take 2 mg xanax for extreme anxiety.. But it's worth it not having to always worry about finding pills all the time.. And it's very very private I have not relapsed once and been very honest w my dr. You need to be really willing to taper off subs and be really willing and want to get off the pills.. No good way to live.. Fun when you get em for ligit reasons but its terrible I been there I cut down to 6 mg a day and I feel better than I first started. Good luck

Suboxone works great. I was on oxy for 3 years for a shoulder injury and the wds scared me so much!! You will have to go thru a little bit of withdrawals the day you start subs. I felt amazing 5 min after I took it and haven't had any wds since!! I highly recommend starting a program. You will also feel better about yourself. Don't go cold turkey. It is not pleasant. You will b fine and good luck!!!

Seriously you're down to 1 8mg strip and you think that's a low dosage? When I quit I was taking a quarter of an 8 mg strip. Grow up and get your stuff together

I have to agree,people really do not realize the affects these can have on the human body.As I myself have been on Methadone for almost 5 yrs and and also on xanax and then now that Im not on the methadone I do not have panic attacks no more so now I am trying to ween off the xanax and now am on Norco.These can be very dangerous and I have actually heard of a guy waking up in the middle of the knight I guess you could say almost in a catotonic state and took all his meds and OD.You must take these meds as prescribed,I am no doctor but I have seen what the effects can do.I actually stepped on here because I do not want to be on norcos or the xanax and realize this will not be an overnite fix as I was thinking about trying the suboxone,so I just wanted to see what others folks are going through and see if it is at all possible for me to do this and call my doctor because I feel that now these norcos and the xanax are just a cruch for me and my back hurts so bad what good are taking these pain pills if Im still in pain?But I hope all the best for everyone and I prey for all of us as I can say for myself at this time in my life its not easy being me.

i agree. What you all need to realize, as i did after about a year of suboxone and treatment, is that you cant put stock in your dr 100%. Its called advocating for yourself. theres so mant dr.s out there and they all have different opinions and choices. I found myself w. a 40year psychologist prescribing me my psych meds for a year. everyone renowned him and i was pressured to stay with him even tho i was facing horrible side effects. this lasted for a year until i realized i gota pull through my anxiety and be an adult and go out and look for the right help for me. you need to have a good relationship so to speak w.your doctor. also dont be afraid to advocate for yourself. you know you best. not all dr.s are automatically going to give you the best possible treatment for you. you have to look for that. My new suboxone dr. has givin me so much attention to me, his normal practice being family. he got my other psych dr. to lower some of the doses and remove some of the meds outa the equation. he took a few months to feel me out and is now prescribing me valium testing it out. so far its great cuz as an addict its hard to be heard hes the first to work with me and let me try benzos while still prescribing me 2 8s a day. he gives me 2 valium 10s. we get each other. ive had a problem going back to marijuana since i haven't touched a painkiller/dope in over a year, yet he wants to help me stop and begin testing thc clean, as i want. im a true addict and ive learned alot throughout the process of being clean and i know i personally i do best taking baby steps. i wana quit cigs but he wants baby steps. im lucky but i did the work to find the perfect dr. for me you can do it. if you read all this just learn one thing not what every dr, says is 100% fact or how it is. think about if there's quality's youd like to have in your dr. that your missing. consider it. and for the arguments sake, yes benzos and subs are safe. dr.s do obviosuly prescribe them w. subs and painkillers. the idea being if not abused its ok. but even some dr.s are wrong and make prescribing mistakes too. anything can happen. just know what u can handle. btw im diagnosed manic bi-polar and generalized anxiety disorder while on subs. mental illness very common w.addiction.

my name is nick irronically. i know a friend that grows perfect chronic organic. ive been seeing drs. for years taking meds. finaly got valium, even tho i already geta s*** load every month. but now i dont have to stop taking em a few days befor my appt and worry bout my drug screen cuz obviously there expectd to be in my system. but he did mention wanting to ultimitaly see my thc go down/ me stop. hes the first dr. thats even considered giving me benzos while on suboxone. he dx's me 2 8mg subs and 10mg valium. 1 a day but i get someone elses scrip for basicalt nothing so i can get high all day if i wantd to. when i was a doper i went for the rush and the up feeling not the downer feeling..too bad i find myself on the nod sometimes from the subs n valium, tho i dont enjoy it so i avoid it. anyways if i had money and stable place to live id quit all my med treatment and just smoke weed if thats what it came down too. only chronic and hash is worth it to me. now that i gota try and consider posibly totalt quiting, my dr. was ok w.it originaly for a long time while i was on subs. my thc lvls where maxd lol. but now cuz of the valium i dont know what i wana do. but im inclined to quit if i have to at this junctur in my life. im thinking maybe theres a way i can find one of thoese drinks or w.e that actualy works ands makes u test thc clean.
