Xanax Vs. Buspar (Page 11)
UpdatedYes-what is the major difference between these 2 meds? I have taken xanax for several years. I'm thinking abt. changing to Buspar. Can you switch meds like these without tapering off the xanax. Does Buspar help w/ Panic attacks?
i am not a doctor but common sense would dictate that you would devide 3 (pills) into 24 (hours in a day) which equils 8. Soooo, I (and im not saying this is what YOU should do cuz im not a doctor and certainly NOT your perscribing doctor) would take one every 8 hours or as close to it as possible and if I missed one i wouldnt try to catch up so to speak...i would just stay on a regular schedule and wait to take the next one at the scheduled time. THIS IS WHAT I WOULD DO
this is an opinion. NOT a fact. everyone is different indeed. I have been on Xanax for many many years now. 1 mg 3 times per day as needed for anxiety /panic attics. I usually take in morning..1mg. For whatever the reason, i wake up feel fine, but within an hour the anxiety starts. Perhaps its stress. Doesnt ALWAYS have to be addiction ....so I think it would do us all some good to start jumping OFF of that band wagon for a second and let the sufferers get some friggin relief. Maybe your addicted and that is YOUR plague but dont put it on everyone else. I didnt take a Xanax yesterday. Ya know why?????? Because I didnt Need one. My anxiety didnt flare up at all. For long anyway. I dont take it "JUST BECAUSE"... DO YOU????
Hey. I was on xanax for ten years....1mg three times a day. I had a doctor qho handed out pills like candy...what i did get hooked on was opiates. I (thankfully) never became addicted to xanax but they put me on methadone to help me get off opiates....methadone is as addicting as opiates.....well because that's basically what it is. Anyways getting off methadone was the hardest thing i have ever done. Ive been off everything for over 2 years. The whole point to this is you said you were looking for something to help with anxiety and when i got off methadone i used an herb called KRATOM...it works AMAZINGLY well for anxiety!!!! I also have panic and anxiety disorder and have not had to take anything since kratom. Not only was i on xanax but busbar and kolonopin too....and something else i can't remember the name of. I hope this helps
Did you gain any weight while taking 10 mg three times a day? I ask because i just got put on it and do not want anything that will cause alot of gain
Hello, thank you for your post. It helped me very much. I have been on Xanax since the late 80's when I started to experience severe panic attacks. I had children, I had to work so I had no choice. I never abused them. Always took them exactly as I was supposed to. Why is it that a few people who use it recreationally ruin it for those of use who need it to function? I used to take 2 mg a day back then. Now it is just .50 I will probably take it the rest of my life unless my doctor dies.
Thanks again
Finally a Dr that agrees with me about drugs covering up the problem and not fixing it!!! My son passed away 5 years ago and every Dr I see about it wants to push some kind of drug in me!!!! I refuse to take any kind of meds for it. I have to learn somehow to deal with the loss of my only son!!!! Thank you so much for posting that.
I took Buspar for the first time this morning and within 5-10 felt sick.
I have Complex PTSD.I got off of Cloniipin six months ago.I went to U of M,who specialize in teams.I'm 56 years old.I'm constantly vigilant, don't sleep much, diareah, rage, physical pain, terror.I can't take anti depressants. Is busier in the antidepressant family. And could it help me? I'm severe.
There is no comparison between the two. Buspar is very light weight especially if your used to xanax. The buspar probably wont help at all. I recently quit taking buapar and got switched to vistaril because buspar doesnt do a thing for me. And i am taking 30 miligrams twice to three times a day. Dont usually write comments on any sites but thought you might want to know
Hi, I asked my doctor if I could switch from Xanax to Buspar. He said it wouldn't help my anxiety since I'm used to Xanax
If I am correct, Visteral is similar to Benadryl and you have to increase it eventially to get the same effect. After a while, it just doesn't work,so you have to stop for a while and try again later, like a month or more. I might have it confused with something else, but I don't think so. Also, like Benadryl, it might make you groggy or sleepy the next day like a hangover. Ask your doctor if I am correct. Please excuse the mispellings
No,you must taper off.Would be a good idea to talk to your pharmacists. Also talk to an addictions specialist.Withdraws can last a very long time. You might think your going crazy, the withdraws for me have been hell.My doctor wasn't educated in treating long term withdraws.Nausea, vomiting, chocking chest pain, muscle spams, dirty sweats, diareaha. No appetite. That's why I suggested talking to your pharmacist, and an Addiction specialist.Get documents to support your findings.Slow but sure.Be prepared. One step at a time.
Thank-you.I'm in a tough place.I'm withdrawing from Benzos. Was considering busbar.I wish I could just take a small amount of Benzos.Wish you well
I just started taking them today hopefully these will work my doctor has try me on two other meds. That did nothing so iam praying this will work iam not the one like taking pills but I needed something.
Good luck! My Aunt and friend take. My doc said it wouldn't work for me as I am used to other meds
Have you tried counceling.
If your whole family has this, wouldn't you like to stop the cycle onstead of covering it up with drugs.
I know its scary but alot better for you and your family. Drugs dont solve problems. GAD is physiological not physical.
Please think about taking the first step to a healthy family. Just a suggestion from someone who has been there.
I have had anxiety since I was five. At 40 I was given xanax .5 x3/day, and I was able to teach my colleges classes, live a normal life, and in no way feel drugged. Now, after taking it 23 years, I had to quit xanax cold turkey, which I accomplished very well by taking benadryl and not talking on the phone and not having company. My husband kept the house quiet and pleasant. I made it, but just now I have been prescribed lorazepam. The first one yesterday (actually half) did okay but put me to sleep. Today I took one, kept falling to sleep, then woke up with strange angry moods.
I knew lorazepam was not good, and I was right. I will not take it again. I will see what my doctor says. I told him what works and what I will not do.
