Xanax Overdose

I was depressed I guess and took about 45-50 1 grams of Xanax (Alprazolam) at one time. I overdosed and the doctors told me its a miracle I survived and didn't have a seizure.

The problem is Xanax is a psychological drug and this is not good to do. If you would have in fact taken 50 grams (not milligrams?) you couldn't have survived. I once was going through some problems and did something similar. I was tired of chasing Xanax every month and was not feeling to good. I now have a very large amount and will never let myself feel that bad again (I had nothing to live for or so I thought). I'm glad you are ok, and you might have to deal with the withdrawal effect now but hang in there!

Yea, I meant milligrams. I'm ok now but I've been reading a lot about xanax. Some say it's virtually impossible to overdose on Xanax. I posted this just to let ppl know I did overdose strictly off xanax I took similar amounts after my overdose for about three months. Two weeks ago I stopped cold turkey. Very hard to do!!! I've had nightmares, cold seats in the middle of night and Ive been getting sick for about nine days. Lost an I credible amount of weight the last three months. Feel awful but I refuse to take anymore xanax.

You know what's funny Sandra. I had less problems waking up after taking 25mg then withdrawing from 3 mg a day which sent me into full blown withdrawal and having to be put in the hospital. Perhaps its true you can take 20 or 40 without dying, but the withdrawal was brutal. I was reading emails from my ceiling on one day, that was the day I decided to go to the E.R. While they didn't cure me, I have cut down and also do not stress out anymore on obtaining them. Sure I am addicted but take less now and have enough to last a couple years. Many of us who take the drug wonder what happens when we run out, and that alone can cause horrible anxiety. Nothing though like a good withdrawal, the pain is horrible! Stay good!

All I know is Xanax is the Devil to me. When I binge and take as many pills as I did there's no turning for me. I disconnect from those around me and I become reckless even with my life. Strange how it influences making terrible decisions. Anyway I'm just saying in my case I can never take it again. The outcome would be recasting. It's something I feel and I always go with my instincts. Be careful of Xanax. It can be a real killer.

To anyone thinking about taking Xanax,

Don't go anywhere near any kind of benzodiazepine! My dr put me on 3 mg of Xanax per day a few years ago for my high heart rate. The withdrawals are sheer hell. It affects the nerve endings, so, even tapering the dose makes you feel like your ENTIRE body, scalp to toes, are being scrubbed with a wire bristled brush. Or, needles are stabbing you everywhere all at the same time. These symptoms can last for many years even after you have stopped taking these 'drugs from hell'. Even if you took Xanax for a few months, you could end up like many, many, patients dealing with the withdrawal which, from everything I have read, is much worse than the original condition it was prescribed for.

I have had 2 spinal fusions done, and the physical pain from Xanax is the most difficult to deal with since it is over my entire body! Good luck to those of us tapering, I use valerian root tincture and it helps a little bit. In Europe, doctors prescribe valerian instead of Xanax, or Ambien, or Valium for sleep and anxiety. It works! My friend uses it when she can't sleep and says it works every time.

Can you overdose on taking a whole prescription of Alprazolam 0.25 mg (40) the doctor prescribed, which is half or one tablet by mouth twice daily as needed?
