Which Is Stronger 15mg Ms Contin Or 15mg Oxycodone (Page 2)

Updated

I wonder what the difference is between 15MG MS Contin vs 15 Mg Oxycodone. Is there a substitute for MS Morphine..I take 2 30mg MS Contin twice a day and also with that I take 15MG MS Contin twice per day..which of course is 45mgs at a time..with 3 15mg Oxcodone for breakthru pain. I was taking 20 mg Oxycontin 3 times a day etc. But my insurance wasn't paying for the oxy. So what I take now is paid for. Do any of you have any suggestions of what would work better for the pain..since I changed to morphine it doesn't seem to do the trick..this is long..but any answers would be very appriciated..Thanks..

What were the health problems you experienced from taking MS Contin? I have been taking it for ten years now and my overall health seems to be deteriorating.

Oxycontin is oxycodone er. MS-Contin is morphine sulfate er. My pain doctor told me the FDA and DEA are
really coming down on pain clinics. The main drug is oxycodone. It has become the number one drug of abuse
by teens. I was told within 12 months the most percocet
10/325's you could get in a month was 100. I get 140 now. He did say my 30mg of MS-Contin could be upped.

In was placed on the methadone for chronic back pain and it helped for about 3 weeks. I had a pain level of 4, which was good considering my pain level is usually beyond !0, but I found that morphine was one that really helped me function, it caused red spots on my skin, which my dr stated wasn't too bad, but she had to pull me off of it after I mentioned itchy skin and wheezing.

I am 71 years old. I have taken 30mg of ms contain 3xs per day for the last 7 years. I have stenosis which is painful and limiting but the real source of my pain is from my feet and legs. I am in sales and on my feet the majority of my waking moments. A failed foot surgery has caused some fairly serious issues which the doctors are uncertain of how to correct. Bottom line is that by 2:00 in the afternoon I am walking on the sides of my feet to help to relieve the pain that shoots up my legs from the tips of my now deformed toes. I have asked my doctor to substitute the 30mg ms that I would normally take with 30 mg of oxycodone as I definitely want the instant relief as well as the lift that I would receive from this combination. My doctor refuses to hear my request . He did prescribe me a substitute Opana ER which I found useless opting to go back to the ms instead. I truly need a breakthrough med that will offer relief. Can you advise

hi hunter, i ended up not being able to eat. now some people may look at that as a good thing. but eating half a sandwich and feeling like you ate a 5 course meal? it was crazy. thats all i could eat in a day. even fluids would fill me up quickly. i got tested for everything. here now i have a hyperstomach. most peoples stomachs hold their food for 3 hours before dumping. mine may hold it for an hour. so i dont get the nutrition i need. so the trick is how do we hurry to keep the nutrition in, plus meds and keep my body healthy. i honestly dont want to get more sick. losing the weight as of now isnt an issue. but i dont want to lose my hair. nor like i said? get worse. however im now on oxycodone regular. so fa so good. i have control now. its not sitting in the pit of my belly melting when it feels like it. hope alls well.

Hi everybody I just have a couple of questions.. Let me start by telling a little bit of my background. I'm 26yrs old and have had 4 surgeries on my back the last to didn't help AT ALL so I see my pm doctor every month and as of two months ago I was on the fentanyl 100mcg patch every 2 days and up to 6 oxycodone 15mg 1-2 every 4-6hrs as needed and when the pain was bad I would take 2 every 4 so by the end of the day I was out of pills so they switched me to dilauded 4mg 1-2 evry 4-6 and I was having the same issue so this month they switched me again I'm still on the fentanyl every 2 days but no more bt mess just another long lasting which is the MS Contin 30mg 3x a day and so far I've noticed more pain relief from the oxycodone the the MS Contin.. Any suggestions?? Also should I call and talk to the doctor or nurse about this??

Shan, I had fusion in 09. Made things worse ! Thanks to UCSF for that. Been on Oxy ever since, most recently was on 15mg every 4. Got to where it was not lasting more that a couple hours and I did not like the side effects, who wants W/D every 4 hours ? And who can afford Contin since the abusers have prevented a generic from coming out, thanks to the abusers for that.
doc switched me recently to MSContin, 60mg three times a day. That's it. It only gives about 60% of the pain control as Oxy, but lasts longer and side effects are less. ringing in the ears is less decibels at least. I just hated the spiral of needing more and more as Time goes on, I'm 63 TODAY, so where will I be in 10 years?
Good luck.

I know all about a fusion, as I had a major one in 06. I had every pain relief medication known. Except herion or methadone. Right now my pain mgt doc has me on 30mg of oxycontin a day for the extended relief as well as 8 to 12mg of dilaudid. I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. I have my life back as much as could be. Talk to ur doc and try to obtain the above. The combo made me nervous at first mixing oxycodone and morphine but the apprehension went away after the pain relief kicked in.

Either oxy ir 5mg or dilaudid 4mg. They both work great. The dilaudid last a little longer.

Simply tell your doctor it isn't working and you would like 15mg oxycodone without the acedimediphine. That's what I did, percs mess up your liver

I really need a good pain reliever. My pain never really goes away.I have hydrocodone-acetaminophin that I take,1 at breakfast & 1 at bedtime.Doesn't seem to lower my pain significantly .
I,ve been using 2 tylenol & 1 ibuprophen in btween times about every 4 or 5 hrs. That does seem to help ease the pain, but it never goes away.
My doc gave me MS Contin 15,said I can take it ,
inSTEAD OF the hydrocodone-(twice a day-once at breakfast & 1at bedtime).
Will I be best off taking the hydrocodone, or the MS Contin?
Please advise me--which do you think w/better ease my pain?

I was taking Oxycontin and oxycodone 15mg every 6 hrs along with Gabapentin. My insurance no longer will cover the contin and my dr wanted to put me on methadone, I refused the methadone because I have a heart condition which includes heart failure and the research I did said people with heart conditions should not take methadone. The same with flexeril which when i was in the hospital and rehab they started giving me I had a heart attack within 3 weeks. So please check out your meds if you have other conditions not rely on your doctor to be sure if it's safe for you to take certain drugs. Anyway I am just at my witts end my pain is so severe i get next to no relief. I can't sleep until finally exhaustion takes over and i pass out for a couple of hours. I can't walk the pain is so overwhelming just to sit up in my wheelchair the only time i get out of bed is when i have to go to a dr appointment. I have been in this severe pain 24/7 since Nov. It is so bad that i struggle everyday not to just take all my pain pills at once that if i was sure it would end it I would. I have even told my doctor this and she just says I can understand why you feel that way.She doesn't even take into consideration im also being treated for depression and most of the meds i ve been prescribed all having warnings that it can increase suicidal thoughts. she just says Just hold on. blahhh I feel like these dr's don't realize or care how much pain i'm really in. It's like my entire life has been put on hold. It's not really a life anymore just an existence in pain laying in bed day after day . The Dr's have said only surgery will relieve this pain. They were already to operate while i was in the hospital in Nov. but then found blood clots in my heart. Due to my already heart condition and the need to go on blood thinners to dissolve the clots they said id have to put the surgery off for 2 to 3 months. I was sent to a rehab.. hosp for some physical therapy but after 2 weeks and i made no improvement my insurance refused to pay any longer. When i saw my cardiologist 2 months after that he said NO WAY he could take me off plavix, warfarin or Lovenox injections for atleast 9 months to a year and than id have to be off the blood thinners for 3 weeks to a month before surgery.. in between the blood clots i had a stroke and a heart attack in a months time. So pretty much i have been told just suffer . My primary did refer me to pain management which was a joke the soonest they could see me is in September! I see my dr again in a week which at that time i plan to beg her to do or give me something else besides more Oxycodone. tho i'm just not sure what to ask for. sorry i didnt intend to rant and be so long.. Im just so frustrated and in sooo much pain.. I'm only 40 with 3 sons (17 to 22) i really don't want to end my life this way. One of my original questions was about i noticed some of you said you take oxycodone every 2, 4 or 6 hrs. I have never taken narcotics in my life before all this. My script says every 6 hrs, I was afraid to take them sooner than 6 hrs.

It's people like you who view opiates as a way to get high that make it difficult for real pain patients like me to get medication to treat real pain. Get yourself help. You have an addiction if you're looking to get high. I need medication for real pain to keep working and stay active.

At the start of my pain management I was prescribed oxycodon for it progressing to the duragesic patch. (I suffer with degenerative disc desease on 4 levels). I was on the duragesic brand/fentanyl patch for 9 yrs. My final dosage was at 100 micro gram and had allot of phsychotic issues with it. Constapation is a minor side effect for this - it takes a strong & structured personality to use this. Weight loose is one I experienced - I have a slim build to begin with & lost over 50lbs. After 9 years I asked to be taken off of it. That saved my sanity. For the past 12 yrs I take 120mg ms-contin 2x bid - I am fortunate & don't suffer from any side effects from it. I would suggest any one that is contemplating going to fentanyl for pain management to fully explore all of the effects & side effects from it. Including the fatalities. Take a moment & review all of them. Its not for the faint of heart & takes allot of self discipline. If you have these attributes & can use it effectively then you're a strong & stable person.

I have been taking Percocet 5/325 4times per day for the past few years for crohns, 2 herniated discs, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, and a few other things. I also have been taking soma and ambian to sleep because I wake up around 1:00 AM every night in severe back pain. I'm in the process of moving from California to Florida. I went to a doctor, mostly to get to know him before moving and he told me I have a pain problem, not a sleep problem and felt I should be off of the ambian and on a slow release long term pain med. he suggested MS Contin and continue my Percocet for breakthrough pain. He believed this would solve my sleep problem. I went to my PC doc in California on Thursday and told her what he said. She believed he was correct and said we are going to change to 15 mg MS Contin twice per day, continue the Percocet 5/325 but lowered the frequency from 4 per day to 2 per day for breakthrough pain and discontinue the Ambien. After two days I've noticed that I have much less pain during the day but still wake up around 1:00 AM in pain. Any suggestions on what to say to my doc? I have a f/u appointment next week to see how it's working. I've actually cut down on the Percocet to two a day because I am not in much pain during the day but the middle of the night problem is still there.

Here is what I experienced. I switched to MScontin (morphine) for about a month.
But I began falling asleep, even at traffic lights ! It also did not work as well for the pain and made me feel groggy and sluggish. After almost 7 years of dealing with constant pain, ( failed spinal surgery) I have found the best thing for me is now, which is 20mg Oxycontin every 8 hours, with about 5 mg of Oxycodone in the afternoon when the pain breaks through. No more falling asleep, and way better pain control . I have tried it all and surely understand anyone's battle with constant pain.

I have extreme pain all the time had. MRI and it's showed I have bulging discs all the way down my back starting at t12 down into my pelvic bone. I have a old compression fracture in my back, scolosis and arthritis in my joints. They say three discs are pushing on my spinal cord and did a EMG test and it's shows ridicuopathy due to L5 in my left leg. I was on 6 10/325 norcos and was switched to oxycodone 1 every 6 hours which was doing nothing. They put me on butran that did nothing after 4 days. I'm now on MSCONTIN 15 mg twice a day and still don't have relief! I'm not looking to make myself feel high just pain relief, waking up in the morning is the worst I am scheduled for IV on Monday and am going to talk to my Dr about my pain but it seems like it never ends! Any suggestions?

Your in a quandary my friend if your pain level is that bad you might need to up your dose of m.s. cot in. Perhaps 60mg then 15mg of cot in twice a dayq not three times. 15 of oxycycodone will kick yo or butt and relieve the pain..maybe 15 oxycotin 3times a day and ask your doctor about steroid IV in the hip area will have your out of pain for sure. The oxycodone with only steroids should be sufficient. you'll see that will reduce your overall cost tremendously.find a good doctor that will do this as most shy away from steroids and want to do facet blocks with roads big rip off.good luck feel free to email me and tell me how your doing people support help is always a big plus .don't make friends there are none

friend I'M 58 suffer chronic pain, just happen to see your comment, & wanted to share this, nobody knows what your feeling unless you tell them, if you taken other medication that works better than what your taken, now is the time to speak up & request something stronger or let the doc know & get his intake, I'm taking morphine 30mg 2x & was cut on oxycodone 30mg to 15mg 4x but for 5 years it was Methadone no problems ever, but my medication now it's been nothing but problems with the oxycodone due to the FDA I'M mad as hell I've taken methadone 5 years with no problem & this is what works for me, But my doctor doesn't prescribe methadone I put in a referral & it's to get back on methadone I will stay here until I see the other doctor & it's final, then cancel my appointment, whatever makes you feel better about your self BUT let the doctor know not to judge you as a thug or doctor shopper, this is about you & what you have to deal with every day minute-hour of your life if theirs medication that will help you then you should be entitled to it. & that doesn't make you a bad person or a drug addict, before your pain you had a normal life, I did as well & it changes ones life, friend you already have enough to deal with you don't need any more, once you break the ice of talking it will be easier & you'll feel better about your self, quickly my last visit I was charge co-pay plus bal $1.01 last month and this month $1.01=$2.02 I never had a bal I told her that but she charge it to my card, But she quickly said it's not a bal it was a charge insurance didn't pay, as I was call back, I call insurance company when I got home after a few minutes what she charge me was what the doctors office owe not me that was illegal once I found this I call her then billing, it wasn't the money but the way she handled it, don't let kindness be taken as weakness, needless to say it happens, hope this helps Good Luck
