Which Is Stronger Hydrocodone 10 325 Or Oxycodone 5 325 (Page 3)

Updated

I have been taking Hydrocodone 10/325 for chronic pain, 1 pill every 6 hours. My Dr. just prescribed Oxycodone 5/325 with up to 2 pills every 6 hours. Which is stronger?

I take hydro 10/325 made by Mallinkrodt. I think its much more effective than the Watson 10/325. I;m on 4 hydros per day but my arthritic pain has increased substantially. My m.d. doesn't want me to take anymore hydro because of his concerns about tylenol intake so now he's switching me to oxycodone, one every 12 hours. I my body already depends on hydros for pain relief. Would a switch to oxycodone get me deeper into opiate dependence. I guess i should just take my md's advice and move on but I can't help but second guess this strategy. Reaction?

This is just my opinion Lex, withdrawel from Oxycodone is more severe than Hydrocodone. Hydrocodone withdrawel is more mental while Oxycodone is mostly physical. If it truly is too much pain then it probably is best to take his advice. But the tylenol can be a real issue if you are on Hydrocodone for many many years, in my opinion Hydrocodone is safer physically. Again, only my opinion, I've taken Hydrocodone for close to 10 years now.

Keisha first ask your doctor why it could be the hydro because of the Tylenol so ask to stay with the 3 norcos or increase the fentanyl to 25 or see if she or he will give you oxycodone no Tylenol or oxycotin which is time release I take 30 mg oxycotin 2 times a day and 1 20 mg 1 per day and 4 10/325 a day almost zero pain I have 4 ruptured disks ,arthritis in rt knee and stenosis in my neck I live in San Diego and under pain management and she's very strict but at least I've given you some options to talk to your doctor about hope this helps.

My pain management would not change it at all so I am looking for another doctor. He would not ever change the patch from 12mg to 25mg and then he said that he was going to stop giving me any medications eventually

When they changed the yellow hydros to white they definatly changed something more than color. The white ones suck. Nowhere near the same pain relief.

Oxcodone/asap 5/325 or 10/325 does not have aspirin in it,the asap is acetaminophen or Tylenol.

Keisha, sorry to hear that. pm doctors in different states are stricter than other states and doctors are the same. Best option for you is to look for another doctor. The problem with that is you go in blind and that doctor might not give you what you need. try first to find out about the doctor your going to see by asking your insurance company. That's what I did when my doctor said he was sending me to pm. I asked about the the different pm doctors and he told me that what he was prescribing me that he was sending me to a pm that always gives you stronger meds. As long as I passed the drug panel I pretty much get what I ask for and I thank God because she is real fair like I said in the earlier post 2/30 mg oxycotin 1/20mg oxycotin and 4/10/325 oxycodone and my pain level and blood pressure is 1-2 pain and 72/125 along with Xanax for anxiety doing good for 2 yrs so do your research on your next pm doctor let us know how you are doing.

Insurance companies can't tell you if a Dr will prescribe you pain meds. Each patient is different and it depends on the diagnostic test results and the rest of the patients medical records. Drs don't tell each other how to treat their patients so they aren't going to tell them what to prescribe. Although as a general rule pain management drs are more comfortable with prescribing stronger pain meds than other drs are.

I didn't say insurance company will tell you what a doctors can prescribe but they do have access to what doctors that have a pacific pattern on what pain meds that they have prescribed on other patients its just different pm have a certain criteria to prescribe meds because they report more and have to send reports to the dealer that's the reason for pain contracts and violating it always the doctor to refuse to continue to give you controlled medication where as before norco when to schedule 2 they could give you up to 5 refills without the face to face the second way if you're in good with your pharmacist he can also tell you which doctors prescribe stronger medication both of these avenues I have used but I've been in the system for 15 yrs and I'm in CA it depends alot on the state your in.

Having access to the info doesn't mean they can or will give it to prospective patients. Drs do pain contracts so they are sure the patient knows the rules of that particular Dr and agree to them. It is up to each individual Dr how they handle their pain contracts and their patients when problems arise. Some drs are very strict and some look at the history and record of the individual patient.

Thanks for info. Husband had oxy 10 after rotator cuff surg and ran out two days before 2 week appt (nerve block failed). I gave him the few hydrocodone 10 I had and the difference was evident. The Oxycodone did the job while the Hydrocodone had him pacing in pain.

In a couple of weeks I'll be able to give you a first hand report. My husband has been on hydro for chronic moderately severe pain caused by profound deterioration of the cartiledge in his shoulders. He has been taking 5/325, then 7.5/325 then 10/325. Now he has been changed to oxy 10/325 twice daily. We'll see in a few weeks if oxy is stronger. He is advised to have joint replacement sugery but he flat refuses. He had a brown recluse spider bite on his R forearm a few years ago. In hours after the bite it deteriorated so fast we rushed to the big med center in Asheville NC. In the ER the doc cultured it, cleaned it, put him on 2 abx bandaged it and referred him to a prominent hand surgeon. The culture was + for MRSA 2 DAYS DAYS later. The area on his arm was forming a deep crater. We were prepared to have his arm anputated. Weeks of treatment too complicated to detail here...suffice it to say that is why he refuses the joint surgery. MRSA never goes away. So to be continued in a few weeks.

We are in our 70s and very sexually active, very. You would never believe HOW active. I tell you this because taking the pain med interferes with my husbands "nature". So he uses the med PRN and must be in dire pain before he will take it. For 8 hours he is unable to be "busy". There is absolutely no possibility of his becoming abusive with the drug. To be continued in a couple of weeks. Then I can report the comparative strengths of the 2 drugs.

If you take only 1 of the oxy, then the hydro 10 would be the stronger. If you take 2 of the oxy, then that dose would be the stronger. Theoretically, oxy in an equal dose with hydro is 30% stronger. So says my pharmacist.

I suffer from extreme debilitating migraines everyday nonstop. Then I had spinal surgery for spinal stenosis. Surgey was a big mistake. The pain is so bad that I cry all the time. I'm on Fentanyl 25 and vicodin 10-325. I noticed that after 14 years of pain the vicodin doesn't work like they used to. Just saw my doctor today and he finally gave my oxycodone(percocet) 10-325. I hope this works. Tried getting off fentanyl but the pain was too great without the patches. Besides the withdrawls you will get.
