Where To Purchase Paregoric (Page 14)

Updated

I've used Paregoric for 15 years and can't find it. Is there anywhere in the U.S. or other countries where this can be purchased?

I need this for my daughter. She can't keep anything down and the doctors do nothing but prescribe crap. She'll die soon if she doesn't get help!!!

I'm trying to locate Paragoric. It's the only thing that works for me.

I am besides myself not being able to get my paregoric. I need it to manage my IBS. How does something like this happen? I certainly would have stocked up if I knew this was going to be the case. I won't be able to travel and my "situation" is without my medicine.

The FDA thinks we'll all become addicts to the opium. Thats the bottom line. Ive never gotten high from it. I doubt my dr will write an opium Rx. I don't think that would be safe either. Thanks FDA- you suck and have ruined my life due to hyper motility.

I am in the same spot. I have used it for years and it is the only thing that worked well for my IBS. It IS back on the market, at least in Maryland. My doctor, fortunately, gave me a prescription for it and I got one bottle, but now the pharmacist tells me it is no longer available again. I don't know what is going on!! Also, another RX I use for IBS is DONNATOL and this is now not covered by my insurance and it quite costly. If anyone on this site can help as to where Paregoric prescriptions can be filled, please let me know here. Thank you.

I completely understand. Please let me know if you find out anything from any other sources. I live in Maryland. Please see my other post. Thank you.

I have found that DONNATOL also works, but it is not the same as Paregoric. Paregoric, in my experience, works quickly. Donnatol comes in tablets and liquid. It is available, but not covered by my insurance, I don't know if it would be covered by yours.

What state is that in? Thank you.

This is not a substitute for Paregoric, but have you tried Donnatol? I use it since I, too, cannot get the Paregoric. I suggest you google Donnatol and ask your doctor but, again, it is not the same as Paregoric.

Mike, Thank you for the info. I don't know what a compounding shop is. Is that different from a pharmacy? Thank you.

I found , by accident, that Loratab helps. But my doctor wants to give me Paragoric instead. Who can figure as one would think that the Paragoric would be more addictive. I only hope that the VA can compound it. Have had IBS for years but ever since numerous bouts of C-Diff, it has only gotten worse. Finally some relief. Never give up, as when one door closes, another one opens!

Hey..just thinkin if paragoric is derived
or component of opium why would anyone give it to a baby for teething? Call a Dr.but never paragoric.that baby could be addicted to a bad drug.with all my pain I wouldnt take it.no way!

If Paregoric, just like any other medication, is used correctly, it is not addicting. Can it be? of course, there are always individuals who will abuse a medication and/or take it incorrectly and overuse it. It is too bad, though, that for the people who need Paregoric for certain conditions, and for those patients who have not abused nor over-used the medication, they are denied it. For those of you who are still trying to get their prescription filled for Paregoric, I live in Maryland........it was off the market for about two years, and now it is back on again and available in Maryland.

Before I would go crazy over the DEA, it has been my experience by calling them directly that most of my problems have been because of the doctors and their ignorance federal documentation reports or new bills or acts (USA) regarding controlled substances. If paregoric is no longer available, I have read a lot of the responses, however I have not seen anyone who has taken zofran. My stomach issues have been pretty difficult and of course medication aggravates and I take zofran. It is medication that is given to cancer patients. Also now that medical marijuana is available in some states and let us hope and pray to God that the Bible Belt can get their ignorant asses in gear... Marijuana can control nausea. Not sure what your situation is, if you are in a position where you have to take a U/A every month or random to make sure you're not doing any illegal drugs, I would try the marijuana if you do not, I repeat do not have to take those types of drug panels. Otherwise, if you're treated in a pain clinic, he will obviously be thrown out. I'm a research analyst and I refuse to have anyone tell me to shut up. The last primary care doctor I had issues with because he accidentally changed a serious medication to protect my kidneys screaming about the DEA over the drug fioricet for my migraines. That is all I can take, long story rather not go into it. However I did contact the DEA a number of times over the issue. I was told that sometimes when doctors stop writing prescriptions it is because they have been in trouble over something else or they know someone that has been in trouble. The doctors blame the DEA and the DEA blame the doctors. I would be very careful about getting any drugs that were not monitored by the FDA. We all get pissed off here in the USA, however I know of several instances where the FDA has monitored pharmaceutical manufacturers of controlled substances and found they were not up to par, fined them or threatened to shut them down. Of course they can't do this outside of the United States. Caution, always caution when you have a body that is already very sick. If the tincture of opium is working for you but you can't stand the taste I would suggest taking it with honey, just tablespoonful or so. If the paregoric had more opium in it than you are taking now, most likely you're also having withdrawal symptoms and diarrhea and vomiting can be induced in a terrible way when you're in withdrawals.

Whatever your outcome, I would make direct calls to the DEA and the FDA either in your area or federally. I always tell my Dr that it is a curse and a gift to be a research analyst and in some cases know more about a medicine than the doctors. Upon my initial visit to my new primary care doctor, I gave him my situation and I told him if I heard one word about the DEA that I was walking out the door. I meant it. As patients of chronic illnesses we absolutely must know the medication we are taking and its side effects, how many times people have sued over it and what the legal suits entailed. There have been more legal cases over new medications than the old basic tried and true medications made from the Great Creators opium. I wish you good luck regardless and I hope that you will be cautious when making your decisions. I did not take any time to research paregoric or the tincture of opium, due to previous comments. Thank you and again good luck!
