I've used Paregoric for 15 years and can't find it. Is there anywhere in the U.S. or other countries where this can be purchased?

sO HAPPY to hear that we all have paregoric available to us again!!!Some one, some where heard us (hi tech ph
pharmacuticals?) heard us! Now, as has been stated on this thread, oh, how I pray it doesn't go off the market again...I'm (as have said before) tempted to hoard it...I (don't have to take it every day, just when on "the road" or away from home), so....hmmmm....that isn't "cheating" is it? (as long as I don't abuse it???) sing to the tune of "happy days are here again, ta da te da te da te da" "paregoric is here again, those of us suffering can once again live 'a life' ta da te da te da te da, happy days are here again"! Hi Betty, thanks for your reply....I managed to get through the abscess tooth situation but plan to look at these places suggested on this site, for when something like that happens again and the prescribed medication is simply not enough.

Hi - I just now called Discount Drug Mart in Lakewood, Ohio. They now have paregoric available again - just need to have my doctor write a prescription order for it - which I will do first thing in the morning! Hallelujah!!BSFYD

I've used paregoric as an antidiarrheal for nearly thirty years. I'm desperate for it now. Please give me the name and address of the pharmacy in Trinidad where your mom got you some. If I can get some paregoric to relieve my misery I will be forever grateful. I've tried everything else which hasn't helped.

Hi Tech Pharmaceutecals (in New York) is the Company that makes it, and ships it out to ordering pharmacies...have you read all the past posts on paregoric? We talk about them...what town and state do you live in? Maybe I can help you find a pharmacy that carries it? DEB, YOU WILL HAVE TO CONTACT ALL YOUR LOCAL PHARMACYS AND ASK THE PHARMACISTS TO ORDER IT OR IF THEY WILL BE STOCKING IT.

OK, "where to get paregoric"...first, you must have an rx from Doc...then call your pharmacy (mine is Von's in California, or Raley's), also a lot on this site get it from Walmart, or...just call around to local pharmacies? It was off the market for a while, but now back? Hope this helps, Betty

I have been able to purchase the original paregoric since it once again became available...
I agree with your thoughts on the subject of pain...

I read on the internet that as of August 2012 it is available again in the U.S. I am having extended pain from oral surgery and can get nothing stronger than ridiculously inadequate ibuprofen. I have decided doctors generally ddont understand pain or are too scared now to prescribe what really works especially for those of us with low pain tolerance levels. Mom used it successfully back in the 50s and it worked like a wonder. We've gone backwards in pain medications because of the abusive use of them by others and now we're in the scary position of not being able to get what we truly need for painful procedures based on the misuse of others!!! I will continue to hunt for paregoric so that I can know I have more control of pain and am not at the mercy of unbelievikng or skeptical doctors.

Do you live near a Costco? (pharmacy department)...I read...somewhere, that the cost for paregoric is really not that bad there? I wish you the best of luck in "saving your nickles and dimes"...God, I don't know what I'd do without my insurance! Yes I do...I would budget in my paregoric, I truly would! The best to you!

Betty, thank you so much for the info. I emailed the company in New York, and yes they confirmned they are producing our liquid gold again. I asked at Walmart and they didnt know it was back on the market. I went to a local drug store and they confirmed they c an order it with a script. BUT it will cost an arm and a leg! I dont have insurance so Ill be saving my bucks.

Good Morning!

OK...the manufacturer that makes the "original" paregoric
is Hi Tech Pharmaceudicals out of Amityville, New York.
They are the ones that had been supplying it for quite a while, but suddenly stopped. Many of us who suffer from embarrassing symtoms of IBS, Chrons, spasms of the bowel causing sudden diarrhea (at parties, at the store, driving...you get the jest) were heart broken when Hi Tech suddenly stopped making it...the alternative was MORPHINE, 10X STRONGER than paregoric...go figure why THAT was available and not paregoric, which (history is on internet) has been around FOR EVER AND EVER...It, until ....I BELIEVE....the 70's was available w/o prescription! When I was a child, many years ago (wah) I had "nervous bowel problems & tummy aches", my mother gave me paregoric...

But I digress (sorry)...call your pharmacy and ask if paregoric is available (IT NOW IS...AGAIN) tell them Hi Tech Pharmaceudicals (out of New York) makes it...(if they say no)...it requires a prescription from your Dr (in the state of California a triplicate), but from what I understand, other states it's just a "regular prescription"...
I have (thank God) insurance that pays for it, but price varies (close to or over 100.00 per bottle), I rec a 16 oz bottle (not from a compound pharmacy where a pharmacist makes it for you), but from (again) Hi Tech, ...see history of all these posts on opions of compound pharmacy and Hi Tech and opinions of which is better...the "original Hi Tech" or a pharmacist compounding a RX from...your Drs rx...

Personally it seemed the compound prescription worked almost the same...whether it was psychological (compound pharmacy or Hi Tech) being better...I'm not sure as i trusted Hi Tech's paregoric...(compound gave a dropper and it rather frightened me) paregoric, which I'd taken many, many years, again I trusted and "just took a swig from bottle"...(I thought small one)...it lasted for a long time...settled my tummy,, I could ride/drive/eat/drink wine with it...

When paregoric (AGAIN when Hi Tech stopped making it) went off market, I went to my gastoenterologist and and said "ok, I'm giving you the opium (10x stronger), with dropper....take 10 drops, NOT MORE, OR YOU WILL DIE....so, back to "staying home..for fear of the sudden diarrhea...now, with prescription from Hi Tech, I feel once again confident...my husband and I travel (I take a swig and go literally days without another attach), I go to store myself....

I'm so sorry, "brievity is not a virtue of mine", but hope I have helped you...

Bottom line, if you have symptoms of all writing in, talk to your Dr...get a prescription, go to your pharmacy, and I, for one (and all writing these posts) will guarantee you you will have a free, happy life!

ahh! and now I find myself apologizing to Prescription Drugs!!! I did not mean to call you "People's Pharmacy"!!!
Both of you have made it available to rec those of us suffering from Chrons, IBS, etc, to read the latest news on Paregoric....a RX that WORKS for us!!! Thanks you, Prescription Drugs!!! I DO have a question: Now that it is "back on the market", I am tempted (even though I live near Yosemite National Park) to order (if it's possible) one time from you, and next from People's Pharmacy! Is that possible? You both have done so much for all of us! Sincerely,

Claire...I belong to two different groups of those so upset that Paregoric was "off the market for a duration"...I just saw "Juggies" (I am signed up on the People' s Pharmacy for any posts re Paregoric) post and saw yours...I had read it before, AND SWEAR, I wrote you and thanked, thanked thanked you for informing us that it is back on the market! I was able to get a RX for it at local pharmacy, and oh, I thank you soooooo much for caring enough to post that it is ONCE again available for us! Sincerely....Betty

I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but I must post that your post is rather rude! Those of us who have "acute diarrhea", to the point where we can't go on a road trip or spend the night at friends house, and have found something THAT WORKS...that helps us live a life such as I pray yours is, one of fun and FREEDOM...yes, it taste lousy, BUT IT WORKS!!! I am sorry you have to post such..."mean words". I wish you the best of health, and that you never, ever have the problems those of us on this site have! Thank for for Paragoric!
