What Is Stronger Dilaudid Or Oxycontin 40 Mg? (Page 9)

Updated

I have been on Dilaudid for over 2 years now and I can't seem to get off of it. I'm under a doctor's care, but anyone who is on it knows it's very addicting! I think like everybody else, it's no good if you take it orally. It's only effective other ways. I always run out of Dilaudid before my prescription is ready to refill and recently I filled a script for oxycontin 40 mg to see if they could replace my 4 mg Dilaudid. However, I took 1/2 of a 40 mg. and felt nothing. An hour later I took my 4 mg Dilaudid and it seems to have worked. But they are very short lived, that's why for chronic pain they like to give these stupid time release pain pills. How many mg.'s does equal the same amount of Dilaudid? I also would like to know if anyone has ever tapered off of Dilaudid? You get really sick when you try to get off of it, really intense vomiting and stomach pain that lasts forever. I have never stuck it out, I always end up in the emergency room. All they do is give me a pain shot of Dilaudid and a prescription for it as well and send me home. They think there is something wrong with something else. I have even tried to tell them but they either don't want to get involved because I'm under a Dr.'s care or they are just stupid. I hope someone has the best kicking advice, I'd rather be straight or just be one of those once in a while users (RIGHT)!!!

Arlene, your posts are all over the place. I believe someone else mentioned you may want to go to the NA site. What exactly is your question? If you have nerve pain or what is referred to as neuralgia it is very painful and difficult to treat. Many doctors use neurontin, tegretol, Lyrica, generally, narcotics are not effective against this type of pain and since you are clearly very nervous and anti-pain med use, you should really consult with your doctor or let us know what it is you take that doesn't work. Also what are you worried you are addicted to if you don't believe in taking these types of medications? I believe anybody that requires long-term pain mgmt. and uses there meds as prescribed may be opiate-tolerant and even dependent but not necessarily addicted. There is a huge difference, if these meds allow you to live your life and you are productive and happy, able to manage the pain you are left with then you are doing well and the majority of true CPPs are like that. I think we are just starting to see, unfortunately, the downside some of these newer drugs like OxyContin and Opana have brought into pain mgmt. and many people are indeed becoming addicted b/c the drugs were not originally labeled or marketed properly to the FDA or the doctors. Now that has become a big money maker and these patients' tolerance will be hard to reduce so I feel for these doctors and their patients, they have a difficult road ahead. Please give more information if you are seriously seeking help, otherwise, everyone on here knows why they take what they do and with all due respect, don't require or even request your approval.

More concerning than the content of a majority of these posts I find disturbing is the prolific use of incorrect grammar, spelling and fluency. Computers are wonderful and it's great to have this outlet but I see how it has really damaged many people's ability to write properly and spell, it's atrocious and inexcusable. Please read your posts and see that they make sense, are fluid and relate to the topic at hand. Hope I don't offend anyone it's just getting so disturbing to see how illiterate too many posters seem to be.

You are so right. I just had neck surgery and am in unimaginable pain. My neck surgery post-op 3 weeks is 1000 times worse than natural child birth. I know this from experience.

I've been suffering from lower back pain since I was in my early twenties. Its the most miserable feeling in the world. I feel a lot of pain and every once in awhile I feel pins and needles. I've seen so many different doctors and specialists its not even funny. Noone seems to know what's wrong with me. I've been on 5mg vicodins until my pain management doctor got himself into trouble. Which sucks because they actually worked. All of my doctors now don't like prescribing any type of narcotic to anyone. He put me on cymbalta and then. Tramidol. Those are worthless. Does anyone know what I should do? Please help. Thanks.

Yea, me too. I have been able to quit everything I have ever used, until now. Dilaudid is EXTREMELY addictive. It is also EXTREMELY difficult to quit. So, you wouldn't say that if you have been through Dilly WDs.

Sorry, I don't have any advice for you since I don't take that med. However, I am in the same boat with loratab. I was curious if you told the hospital what was going on. Did you tell them that you had run out of med & be honest?

Dilaudid is 3-4 times stronger than morphine. If you look at an opioid equaization chart you'll fibd that Dilaudid is definately stronger (mg to mg) than than Oxycodone.

I cant believe my eye Dilaudid is so short Acting BS Herion is SHORT Acting after 2-3 hours you are already Jonesing, Hydro & Oxycodone have a half life of about 4-6 hours before the craving, AND DILAUDID has a half life of 8-12 hours Its one of the Longest acting Opiates Ever Made! You may not be HIGH after 8 hours but it has Long Acting effect and takes 8-12 hours before you start to crave it becouse of withdrawal no matter how you choose to Use or Abuse it.

I suffer from chronic back pain, sometimes its to the point where I cant even get out of bed. Its not ever gonna get better. My doctor started me on 5mg percs and they totally aleviated all my pain. It's been 3 years and he still has me on 5 mg, I have missed worked, kids' school activities, all sorts of things. I have no pain tolerance what-so-ever! I to run out of my script waay before I see my doc every month. It sucks to know I know what works for me but he is sending me to pain management and they are supposed to help me. My question is if I take 60 mg of percs at a time ( i know Im not supposed to, but thats how much my tolerance has gone up), how many of the Dilaudid would equal that? I wish I could wean myself off of these damn pills but the withdrawl is horrible I can't stand I don't know what's worse, the pain or the withdrawl? Oh yeah another question, what do they or are they supposed to give you to help you with withdrawl? ANd yes for all you who haven't walk in our shoes please know what you are talking about before you are so quick to judge! Beacuse at the end of the day, If we could do better we would!

Switch doctors no one should have to live in pain and be miserable. There is doctor's out there that will help you. The problem is , even they are so quick to judge, and think you are"drug seeking" . Its such a fine line. But i wish u luck, and dont give up!!

I appreciate your warning that dilaudid and oxycontin should never be mixed together. The person who recommended that they should be mixed together to get the desired result seems to advocate abusing the two drugs in a dangerous manner. My brother died from an overdose of oxycontin. So mixing dilaudid and oxycondone together, is not advised. Nor is it medically proper advise. Thank you.
