What Is Stronger Dilaudid Or Oxycontin 40 Mg? (Page 6)

Updated

I have been on Dilaudid for over 2 years now and I can't seem to get off of it. I'm under a doctor's care, but anyone who is on it knows it's very addicting! I think like everybody else, it's no good if you take it orally. It's only effective other ways. I always run out of Dilaudid before my prescription is ready to refill and recently I filled a script for oxycontin 40 mg to see if they could replace my 4 mg Dilaudid. However, I took 1/2 of a 40 mg. and felt nothing. An hour later I took my 4 mg Dilaudid and it seems to have worked. But they are very short lived, that's why for chronic pain they like to give these stupid time release pain pills. How many mg.'s does equal the same amount of Dilaudid? I also would like to know if anyone has ever tapered off of Dilaudid? You get really sick when you try to get off of it, really intense vomiting and stomach pain that lasts forever. I have never stuck it out, I always end up in the emergency room. All they do is give me a pain shot of Dilaudid and a prescription for it as well and send me home. They think there is something wrong with something else. I have even tried to tell them but they either don't want to get involved because I'm under a Dr.'s care or they are just stupid. I hope someone has the best kicking advice, I'd rather be straight or just be one of those once in a while users (RIGHT)!!!

this will make you have a new addiction. suboxen is meant to treat heroin addiction, oxycontin-oxycodone is a synthetic heroin. dilaudid-hydromorphone still has oxycodone in it and is VERY ADDICTIVE ! i would just suggest getting a couple of opinions by either other doctors or pharmacists.

Oxycodone can be 2 different drugs depending on the Mg oxcodone like 5 Mg and 10 Mg are considered percocet. Oxycodone any higher like 15 Mg and 30 Mg & 60 Mg is considered roxicodone.

YOu are so right . I have Chronic pain and have been on pain killers mostly Dilaudid for almost 5 years. It never gets me high but it still has some ability to relax me. But eh important part is that it helps with the pain. We all like to be high from it when we can but to devolve and devote your life to feeding an unneeded addiction is weak. And in this case there is no excuse. When you know you can better yourself. And others around you.

I used to be a "painkiller" NAZI accusing everyone using them as addicts or weak. After I was hit by 4 cars resulting in my first spinal injury and then assaulted by two strangers who kicked my back in with steel toed boots resulting in a ruptured disc, I had to rely on pain meds to have a life. I asked God to forgive my judgmental attitude and now thank Him for compassion. A backache is not what chronic pain is. It is incomprehensible, unrelenting pain and trust me - you do NOT abuse your pain meds when you have this level of pain. You make sure you take them as prescribed, no alcohol, it's not about a PARTY THING. It's about having your life back. I don't ENJOY any of these meds - they simply help me walk, work, and live without excruciating pain. I've almost passed out from the pain - and lost weeks and months of productivity trying to be TOUGH. That is unnecessary and a good doctor understands. Judge not lest ye be judged. You never know when you will have to eat those words. I sure did. People who abuse pain meds for recreational fun are getting busted - they are shutting them down and they should - it makes it harder for those of us who need medical help get treatment. It is important for us chronic pain sufferers to follow doctors order's, don't self medicate and find ways to get physical therapy to keep us strong - it actually helps to take less meds, fights depression, and gives much needed energy.

I know this post is old but Shelly I know how you feel. I am in pain every single day due to 2 car accidents plus an ankle surgery. I have tried therapy and nothing helps. I am only on norco 10/325 and I don't take them for a buzz, and prob couldn't get one if I tried cause my tolerance is so high. I won't ever touch needles because I lost one of my best friends of a heroin overdose 3 months ago. All these people judging, walk a day with chronic pain and see how you feel then!

look man, wean yourself off subs, dont take the dilaudid it's just another opiate! take an nsaid pain reliever. i'm doing it myself. i've been on heroin for 32 years, i'm 41 years old now. in Dec. last year a good friend gave me 7 subs and a handfull of xanax and valium, it was the best x-mas present i ever got. For three days in a row i took a whole sub in the morning then on the fourth day i took a half when i woke up and only took the othe half when i felt i absolutely needed it. (when i felt the cramps and running to the toilet, coming on), the xans and valiums where for the shakes and anxiety and to help sleep, which would have been impossible, again, with the xans & v's only take when u really need them. otherwise you'll accomplish nothing but picking up a bad benny habit which is worse to kick than dope. anyway, after a couple of days i was taking a quarter in the morning and taking a little piece here and there through-out the daywhen and if my stomache started to act up. when i ran out i was terrified, i thought i was going to wake up in the middle of the nite, sweating, shaking, puking and sh#!!#*g myself... Ahhh! The good old days! Surprised to say i slept thru the nite, i was shaky and my stomache was a little upset but no-where near as bad as i had expected. i took a coupla' xans during the dayonly like two one in the early afternoon and one about an hour before bed. the next day i felt better, i ate better, i had more energy still needed something for nerves and sleep tho' but finallythird day i woke up well rested ate breakfast and felt like i coul build a race or run a marathon. i cant lie, i have effed up once or twice, since then but if i do, do something i make sure i have 3 subs and 3 xan's, sometimes all it takes is just the one sub, half in the morn' and half at nite same w/ the xan half for my jangled nerves in the morn' and the other half b4 bed to help me sleep. BOTTOM LINE: you dont have to follow Doc's orders to the letter,, if you feel the sub isn't necessary dont take it. dont take another opiate tho, u may as well get on methadone. you will be trading habits, well good luck to you, in whatever you choose, sincerely.

Jenny, I agree with you. This persons post is not positive at all. Personally feel it's a little suspicious. Hopefully everyone here is not desiring to learn how to abuse medications.

I am unsubscribing to this site, due to the nature of some others posts.

I wish everyone well. Please take care of yourselves.

Really suck it up! Trust me your not. SPECIAL you obviously have no idea what real pain is cause you can't just suck it up when you have severe chronic pain you can not just stop taking your medicine and have mind over matter... ITS CALLED WITHDRAWL so unless you are in actual pain and have a true illness then you can understand what happens when the pain meds run out or they dont work like they should. Maybe you shouldn't talk about something you don't know about

Who are you talking to? I am in pain every single day and rely on norco 10s. I understand chronic pain better than most people! I have severe nerve damage in my neck. So stfu

You may never see this, but "suck it up?" I once had a colonoscopy and the doc said that he'd never seen a man tolerate what I went through when they had to push so hard (due to my colon being attached to my abdominal wall) that they perffed it. O.k., so here I am 12 years later without much bone material left in my hips. I've had several surgeries where they just keep removing bone spurs and shaving down bone that grows abnormally. Then! I had a routine MRI in Oct. Not until Feb did I start having pain. So doc looks at MRI to reveal a ruptured disc, two other bulging discs, and bone spurs throughout my spine. I do go through withdrawls pretty badly when I go down on my oxy, but they just switched me to Dilaudid. So, we'll see. But if I just "sucked it up" I'd be screaming all day, and I'm not a wimp.

I have been on 8mg of Dilaudid every 6 hours for 6 years now. If I run out I go into horrible withdrawals for a week. I am going to go see a Doctor to put me on Suboxon and this will get me off of Dilaudid without withdrawals. I just had neck surgery a week ago and the doctor has me on Dilaudid every 4 hours. I feel no pain but now Dilaudid is not as effective like it was 6 years ago. My advice to you is that you need to find a Doctor that can put you on Suboxon. Lots of Doctors can not write prescription for Suboxon. Good Luck

To Citinj?un..Who in the He** do you think you are conning here? So you think that Methadone is a subsatute for heroin and other opiates? What do you think Suboxone is. If you want to go through withdrawls your way, that is on you, but dont tell other people how to do it because anyone going through withdrawls needs to listen to his/her doctor I have lost friends who do it their way.I seriously wish you well, but you are either telling tall tales or you just dont know what you are talking about so unless you have something constructive to say, STFU

Compassion, I know what you are saying..I am so sorry that you are inso much pain. I have chronic pain which did cause me to become addicted to opiates, but that doesnt happen to most chronic pain sufferers..As for people pretending to be in pain and going to those pain managment clinics to get drugs, dont be too hard on them, most of them were too in severe pain at one time, and when the pain went away, they found hemselves in trouble when their doctors just cut them off. When it happened to me, I was so young that I didnt even know what addiction was, things were different in the 1960's and 1970's..I was 14 when my doctor started me on very addicting drugs which included dihydrocodeine, seconal, valium, mepbrobrimates qualudes, and I probably left a few out. When my mom took me to him for help. his exact words were "I am too old for this shiat" Then he gave me a prescription for melleril and told me to never come back,. Its not the addicts the police need to go after, it is the drug dealer.I almost ruined my life, died a few times from OD's and at 46 years old decided I wanted to live so I got on methadone maintenance..Some people say I am switching one drug for another I tell them, "For the first time since I was a kid, I feel normal again..As for these "pill Mills" they are going away so opiate addicts have to decide if they want to be 100% abstinant, or get on methaodne or suboxone.Addicts dont belong in jail they belong in treatment, whatever kind of treatment they choose I am speaking about non violent users..Pulling armed robberies and stuff like that dont count..I am glad you found compassion because addiction is a disease and it is fatal if not treated

I totally agree with you. UNLESS heyou have walked a mile in my shoes, you have no idea how the pain can control your life. So often doctors are willing to label you a drug seeker instead of helping get to the root of the problem. A little Empathy goes a long way for those of us looking for comfort, not dependency.

Exactly. People like that have no idea of what true pain is like. if they felt some of our pain for a day, or even a few hours, they would change their minds very quickly!

I'm aware that your post is a couple years old. I'm wondering if you still get the same pain relief now as you did two years ago with the fentanyl patches. I've yet to find anything that really works for me. I've been prescribed just about every narcotic with extremely minimal results. I've done the 100 mcg fentanyl patches along with 3-4 30mg oxycodone's for break through pain and my pain was still high. I now have an intrathecal pain pump pushing fentanyl into me and its a little better but I still struggle with an average daily pain between 6 and 8. So, what have your long term results been? My body seems to get used to medications quickly and end up needing a higher dose.
