What Is Stronger Dilaudid Or Oxycontin 40 Mg? (Page 5)

Updated

I have been on Dilaudid for over 2 years now and I can't seem to get off of it. I'm under a doctor's care, but anyone who is on it knows it's very addicting! I think like everybody else, it's no good if you take it orally. It's only effective other ways. I always run out of Dilaudid before my prescription is ready to refill and recently I filled a script for oxycontin 40 mg to see if they could replace my 4 mg Dilaudid. However, I took 1/2 of a 40 mg. and felt nothing. An hour later I took my 4 mg Dilaudid and it seems to have worked. But they are very short lived, that's why for chronic pain they like to give these stupid time release pain pills. How many mg.'s does equal the same amount of Dilaudid? I also would like to know if anyone has ever tapered off of Dilaudid? You get really sick when you try to get off of it, really intense vomiting and stomach pain that lasts forever. I have never stuck it out, I always end up in the emergency room. All they do is give me a pain shot of Dilaudid and a prescription for it as well and send me home. They think there is something wrong with something else. I have even tried to tell them but they either don't want to get involved because I'm under a Dr.'s care or they are just stupid. I hope someone has the best kicking advice, I'd rather be straight or just be one of those once in a while users (RIGHT)!!!

Sheligh

Who are you responding to??

Pat:

I was not informing ANYONE to try and stop taking meds on their own. You state you are 53, do you know how old I am???? NO! You also do not know what diseases and or complications I have. I am a very well informed person who AS I STATED, keeps my Dr. clearly informed of everything. Does your Dr. do UDS as required? Please do not assume, as I have not assumed anything with you or anyone else on this website. Have a great day!

Lori

I am glad to hear the Fentanyl patches are working well for you. Unfortunately for me, the irritated the heck out of my chest and I absolutely hated peeling them off. Gosh, I can still feel the pulling. I hope it continues to work for you.

Good luck!

Look CGirl. I wasn't putting you down, all I mentioned was that only a doctor can give out advice..I never said I was 53, I said I am 56, now I am 57 years old, and I will say again that I personally know people who have died from severe opiate WD's that have undrlying medical problems. I have asumed NOTHING about you, I just am very adimate about patients not trying to taper on their own, PERIOD..I don't know you and I know nothing about your medical history and never pretended to, so what are you so pi**ed off about?? And yes, my doctors know everything about me, what medications I take, in fact I just had major dental surgery and I told him every single medication I am on, because I was doing sedation surgery and if I had lied, I could have been in a lot of trouble as it took them 2 1/2 hours to put me to sleep using oral sedation since I am on 160mg of methadone for heroin addiction, I have never lied about that and never would....You seem to have a problem with me, so if you don't like what I say, too bad because I share from my life experiences to help people who may be in my same situation...

Right on Sheilgh. People who have never had chronic pain shouldn't even be giving any kind of advice..It is easy for someone who has never been in horrible chronic pain to say suck it up, but they have never been there or they wouldn't even say it..I have had chronic pain for so many years, my dependence turned into full blown addiction, and I am lucky enough to get on a methadone program instead of shooting dope my whole life...I still have pain, but it is being managed, but when I hear someone say suck it up, that really upsets me...

I wish I could take the fentanyl. The patches irritate my skin and never stay on either.
I'm currently on 16 mg Dilaudid after not being able to obtain any 30 mg Roxycodone pills anymore. They are extremely unavailable these days because of the addicts out there. They are making the receiving of pain relief a nightmare for those of us who really need it.

Gigi, your doctor is talking about UROD (Ultra Rapid Opiate Detox) There are a couple of problems with that advice..First off, UROD is not safe, and although many healthy YOUNG people have gone through it and been ok, there have been some deaths...If you don't believe me that is ok, just do some research on UROD and see what pops up.. Then the other problem is., when the patient is put through this brutal (Yes I said brutal) detox. Many patients have awaken to find out they have soiled themselves, and since the doctors know this you would think they would suggest the patient wear diapers, but all they care about is getting that damn money, so they say that this is a safe painless way to get clean..Yeah right...Now, what happens to the chronic pain sufferer when the drugs are taken away?? I will tell you that they will be suffering again, and probably go back on the medications that allow them to live somewhat normal lives..Let me ask you Gig, have you ever been through UROD?? And are you even a chronic pain sufferer, or are you just saying something your doctor told you..Many doctors are in lawsuits because of UROD causing deaths and or permanat damage to their patients..Yes there are a few doctors that are caring, but most of them are money hungry SOB's.....

I'm on Dilaudid too. But, I take it as prescribed - by mouth.

Please tell me how you do it because, by mouth, it's not working sufficiently for me. Email me directly for privacy?

THanks!!

unfortunately your doctor does not have to refill your narco script. It is always wise to make certain that you do not run out early, unless you do not mind going thru the wd's.

This is for the lyss confused person. When you are on narcotics for a long period of time you develop a little thing called tolerance. Therefore let's say your daddy is on the percocets for a few years, after a while they will no longer work or it will take to many to do anything. Then the dr will say that there is to much tylenol in them and he should go on the long acting oxycontin. Ok then for a while all is good, then oops the tolerance again so up we go. If you where to take the amount we do you would be dead. To our body's it is barely enough to control the pain. Get informed before you make statements to people who deal with horrible pain every moment of their lives, when you wake up in the morning and the first conscious thought in your head is "s*** there's the pain again can I just go back to not being conscious again just to get away from the torment that is my every moment " then have at it make your opinions heard, but I guaranty that your statements will be far kinder and understanding.

Hey brother that was as real as it gets on the whole suboxen situation and tryin to kick that probably hardest habit to kick! And I can honestly say I went threw those exact same symptoms and it is not fun! Now it is possible that suboxen with/drawl can be worse then any other narcotic pill!! Just be smart and just TAPER YOURSELF DOWN the way that works for you! Cuz we all are different but the same in many ways!!! Godless and good luck!! We all can do this with the power of love, preyer, and self dedication!!

No wonder those of us in this lovely battle called chronic pain have such a high instances of depression. First of, our meds tend to be depressants. Then we must deal with excruciating, disabling unfair daily pain. At least childbirth without any meds comes to an end. On top of this blessed life, we must deal with A**h*les, that abuse our precious meds for their pleasure, thus creating a stigma against any of us that need them. Then there are shortages, and Dr. that do not want to, or stop prescribing narcotics because of all the red tape and the fear of being prosecuted. On top of all this, some of us; like me; are blessed with "friends" that are convinced that our pain must be gone by now since we had surgery. Our recurring pain must be either a.) bulls***, so that we can keep getting our addict selves high, or b.)the pain is in our head and actually cause by our meds. (??) I feel so much sadness for all those that must struggle with this nightmare. People like this "LYSS74" make our already difficult journey a little more frustrating. She should really have the joy of walking in our shoes. Duerf- I second your thoughts and well put. Enough already have a heart or a little empathy people all we are trying to do is function enough to raise our children and love our spouses, and maybe have the odd moments of pain relief. if we are so lucky to have caring and understanding doctors, who try to help us. Good luck out there.

I have been on narcotic pain medications since 1998, I was on Diluadid, Demerol Injections, IM, Oxycontin 80 mg 2x a day, and 10 mg Oxy IR. Then in 2002 I was started on Methadone, 360 10 mg a month,.I have had over 100 surgeries, and the Methadone worked best for me, and I went in to get my normal refill and the dr. who sent me to a pain DR. 10 or 11 years ago said DHEC,Drug Controls said he could not precribe them to me any longer, I have to find a pain Dr. I am having to do that myself. I was going to another pain clinic 135 miles away from my home, so that was a 270 mile round trip. I did not drop them for any other reason than I cannot drive that far any longer, and gas id $3,50 a gallon. I am getting no help from the Dr who has been writing them for me for so long, and the pain dr. who put me on that dose after seeing him for 4 months, HE said he likes to get a patient on a dose that controls pain
and now I am looking at having to go to the most dangerous cities in the world, Juarez Mexico. I have been on disablity since 9/1995. Any ideas for what I should do. I do not want to file a malpractice suit, I just do not want to have that severe pain, and the sickness that goes with suddenly stiopping a strong drug. The Dr knew over 3 weeks before my appointment and then dropped all think on me on 1/17/12, and did not let me know anything so I could find a pain Dr.

Hi I sit here and read "you all have it good". I have been on all the mess mentioned all at the same. I had worked up to 7(80mg) of oxycontin and 7(30mg) of oxycodone with 4(10mg) of Valium with suboxone 8mg (4) and hydroxyzine for
itching and fentenyl sucker 7(800) all of this is per day. So what all of you are taking is nothing to where I was at. Now all of my mg and count are cut in half and I no longer take the subs or the oc. I switched to opana and I am more functional one day I hope to be rid of all but I have had multiple surgeries. I took my subs to boost my pain killers per doctors order. I treat with a pain mgmt.slash drug addiction specialist and I never used street drugs before nor have I ever used my meds in other forms than prescribed by doctors
I share this cause I do have chronic pain issues and it seems like nothing helps so doctor and I decided to atleast try to save my organ. If you are a believer then let our father step in and help.prayer changes and yes im still in pain but I control it I don't let it control me and that's where alot of trouble comes into play and these doctors don't care they just keep writing. I hurt but i pray also and one day I wont need all this medicine. Thank you.

Not to be mean, BUT, please reread your post. A lot of it does not make sense..... There are many ways to find a competant Dr. to help you through your pain. I feel bad you have to go through the problems you are describing. Take care of yourself and family, find a Dr. that honestly will take care of you. I wish you well.

LINERIGHTER

Maybe you have of the type of addictions you described. I find it quite disgusting you choose to criticize others that are in any type of pain recovery. As you stated, "ANYONE WHO POINTS FINGERS PROBABLY HAS JUST A BAD OF AN ADDICTION... ALL THOSE THINGS CAN RUIN LIVES AND FAMILIES!!!"

Maybe you should be looking in the mirror...

Pat,
I am not P'd off about anything, I was giving my opion, as do you.

I have nothing against you, but, you were insistent in telling ME not to give medical advice and here you are giving YOUR ADVICE about ultra rapid detox. WOW calling the kettle black....... When you research any type of detox methods, a person will find it does not matter the age of the person. One can be 10 years old (unfortunately) or one can be 70 years old and still suffer from numerous withdrawals. Each persons system is different and that person may experience different types of withdrawal symptoms. For that reason, a Dr. needs to be fully informed. Hell, it is quite common for the same person to experience multiple symptoms while going through an optiate or alchohol withdrawal.

I don't have a problem with you and I also share my past experiences to hopefully help others. I am not one to hastily judge others and I am more than willing to support anyone at anytime.
