What Is Stronger Dilaudid Or Oxycontin 40 Mg? (Page 21)

Updated

I have been on Dilaudid for over 2 years now and I can't seem to get off of it. I'm under a doctor's care, but anyone who is on it knows it's very addicting! I think like everybody else, it's no good if you take it orally. It's only effective other ways. I always run out of Dilaudid before my prescription is ready to refill and recently I filled a script for oxycontin 40 mg to see if they could replace my 4 mg Dilaudid. However, I took 1/2 of a 40 mg. and felt nothing. An hour later I took my 4 mg Dilaudid and it seems to have worked. But they are very short lived, that's why for chronic pain they like to give these stupid time release pain pills. How many mg.'s does equal the same amount of Dilaudid? I also would like to know if anyone has ever tapered off of Dilaudid? You get really sick when you try to get off of it, really intense vomiting and stomach pain that lasts forever. I have never stuck it out, I always end up in the emergency room. All they do is give me a pain shot of Dilaudid and a prescription for it as well and send me home. They think there is something wrong with something else. I have even tried to tell them but they either don't want to get involved because I'm under a Dr.'s care or they are just stupid. I hope someone has the best kicking advice, I'd rather be straight or just be one of those once in a while users (RIGHT)!!!

Hi again Sandy. Some words we're wrong thanks to this crazy phone of mine, so please try to understand what came out of the typing errors. Thanks Stro.

Hi again Stro, glad you answered me back! I couldn't agree with you more! I am never ashamed by what I take. Like you said when your pain is intolerable and you need it to function. Sorry to hear of all your surgeries. So am I to assume you are in bed most days? I was like that for ten years. I was also completely messed up from the drugs. My pain was better however I slept away a decade. I am now more cognizant but I do put up with a lot of pain. I really don't think it matters what narcotic you are in because every person reacts differently to all of them. As long as they help is what matters! The people that abuse them make it difficult for us when we need them for a lifetime. I'm glad you now have to take your used fentanyl patch back to the pharmacy to refill your script! Talk to you soon!

Same here, I have had bad reactions to Oxy and Fentanyl.......Dilaudid is the only one I can handle, I just had a very bad reaction to Fentanyl, and because I am allergic to Oxy, Dilaudin is the only drug I can use. I have been on 4mg 3X a day, I have a horrible spinal condition making this necessary....I refuse to be ashamed of using what I need. I now have a new doctor, and expect him to treat me with the same medication..........if he doesn't.....I won't be able to take any more pain, especially withdrawal. I was promised I would never have to deal with it when it became necessary to use them.

Doctors are getting paranoid about prescribing opiates. I have a spine twisting from the axis, on the 3rd rotation, pulling on my internal organs, veins, everything. The end result is death.....My pain doctor who promised never to abandon my care just told me I had to find a solution for the pain............How the hell can I do that? I have had numerous surgeries on my back, am facing another now......This clown tells me to fix my problem. Nobody can fix it, and now the bones are starting to fuse together. a very bad turn of events for me, they can't fix that one, either.............I have never abused the drugs, never run out ahead of time, or any of that, and this pain guy is dropping me in favor of patients without conditions like mine for which there is no cure.

I am seeking to find a primary care guy to help me into hospice. The pain is unbearable, my life is now spent in bed......Now, the pain guy tells me to suck it up...I will talk with the new surgeon, and it all depends on what he says......I am not going to endure withdrawal on top of what I am experiencing.....I refuse.

I have read other posts where patients are being abandoned after years of treatment on opiates, and for some of us, there is no other choice. These clowns are so afraid of being noticed by the wretched new health care goons that they are now abandoning their patients. I am disgusted, but that doesn't help much.

I live in Northern CA. If anyone knows a good pain guy, please let me know. I have decent insurance......Thanks. I have zero history of abusing drugs, I have always followed the RX, even when in deep pain.

YO STRO...I CAN TOTALLY RELATE TO YOUR PROBLEM & PERDICAMENT...I'VE BEEN A A PARA FOR 40 YRS. SOMETIMES IT GETS SO HARD , AND JUMPING THRU THE HOOPS HAS BECOME JUST SICKENING....BUT NEVER THE LESS....I'M IN A SIMILAR SITUATION...I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING..DILAUDID WORKS BEST FOR ME. AFTER 25 YEARS OF LOYAL PATRONIGE. MY PHARMACIST TOLD ME LAST MONTH THAT THEY WUD NO LONGER CARRY DILAUDID, OR ANY INSTANT RELIEF OXYCODONE.....I HATE ALL OF THESE TIME RELEASE OPIOIDS, AS THEY DEHYDRATE U TO THE POINT, THAT I'M CONSTANTLY BATTLING CONSTIPATION, AND THE DRY MOUTH CAUSES CAVITY AFTER CAVITY....JUST CAN'T WIN.....HOWEVER, MY EXPERIENCE HAS TAUGHT ME THAT DILAUDID IS EASIER TO WITHDRAW FROM THAN ANY TYPE OF OXY, FOR ME....(WHEN YOU KNO YOU GOING TO FACE A WITHDRAWAL EPISODE), I'VE FOUND OUT THAT I'M MUCH BETTER OFF, IF I HAVE AN EMPTY STOMACH. ALSO I TAKE SOMETHING LIKE BENEDRYL THAT KEEPS ME SOMEWHAT DEHYDRATED, SUPRESSING SOME OF THE FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS....I DON'T KNO YOUR INSURANCE SITUATION, BUT I HAVE ''MEDICARE PART D'', THEY HAVE A MAIL ORDER PHARMACY ...THEY HAVE ASSURED ME THAT THEY CAN FILL MY DILAUDID SCRIPT FOR 8MG X 4 PER DAY...I HOPE THIS HELPS U IN SOME WAY...I'VE HEARD THAT SOME OTHER MAIL ORDER PHARMACIES HAVE HELPED PEOPLE ALSO......IT'S A SHAME AND DISGRACE , THE WAY THAT GOOD PEOPLE, WITH LEGITAMATE PROBLEMS END UP BEING THE ONES WHO HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE. GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND.....YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS BATTLE....THERE ARE MANY OF US WHO SUFFER ON A REGULAR BASIS, AS I DO GO THRU WITHDRAWALS AT THE END OF EVERY MONTH....AS I JUST DON'T GET QUITE ENUF MEDS TO MAKE IT THRU THE MONTH....DON'T GIVE UP AND DON'T GIVE IN....DON'T GIVE THEM THAT SATISFACTION . (''THE GREAT POWERS THAT CONTROL THE SUPPLY OF MEDS THAT WE NEED SO DESPERATELY'') {TH BIG DRUG COMPANIES ARE AT THE ROOT OF THIS WHOLE PROBLEM }, WITH THEIR MANIPLULATION, AND LIES, AND DEA, ACTING ON THE PROBLEMS THAT BIG PHARMA HAS CREATED, ONLY IN AN ATTEMPT TO INCREASE THEIR BOTTOM LINE.....WE CAN ONLY GUESS AS TO THE REAL PROBLEM.,, BUT I REMEMBER, YEARS AGO, WHEN U COULDN'T EVEN GET A DILAUDID....THEN THE STREETS ARE FLOODED, NOW YOU CAN'T GET A DR TO WRITE FOR U, IF SO. U CAN'T GET A PHARMACY TO FILL.......OH....I TOOK THE ROUTE OF FINDING A REPUTABLE OTHOPEDIC DR, WHO IS ALSO A PAIN CONTROL DR.....IT HAS BEEN WORKING GREAT, UP UNTILL MY PHARMACIST PULLED THE RUG OUT FROM UNDER ME.......GOOD LUCK AGAIN, MY FRIEND....HOPE U GET SOMETHING OF USE, OUT OF MY RAMBLING.....FEELING THE PAIN, M ICHAEL

Hey Micheal, I agree with every word that you've said my friend and it is a damn shame that your pharmacy no longer supply your dilaudid. I also have part D Medicare and I also freckled some pharmacies that my insurance in which happens to be HUMANA and I've been checking around for the type of meds that we both need so I wont have that problem as of yet, but who knows what the future holds right! The extended release tablets are a joke because they cause more problems than solve them. They dry you out terribly and you would be in worse shape than when you started. So I understand how you feel my friend. We could chat four a while because we are on the same page for sure. Take care of yourself. Until we chat again. Be blessed!

Hi Stro, and Mike, how are you both feeling? I know, probably a silly question. I just thought that I would check in and see how everyone was. I'm spending the day in bed today as I can't get a hold of my pain. It really sucks to live like this. I couldn't imagine my pharmacy turning me away. I've never heard of that. At least not in Canada. My money is as good as the next guys and that's all they want. Hope all is well with you both. Take care.

Verwon I wanted to ask u to ?'s. 1 Is it ethical that your sent to a pain specialist, who is really trying to get me into recovery, even though mt generaldoc, asked him to take over pain control, because he was retiring. 2nd, should any pain specialist decide anything about pain control without seeing ur medical records. Also, my now x- doc that I fired, never in over a year asked how, I was doing! I did file a complaint, thanks 2 me keeping paperwork, he was caught in a major scandal, doing dna tests without permission!

I am looking for a pain management doctor in VA. I need one in Newport News or close by Suffolk. Can anyone help?

Hi Stro, I know we do have to get things done. I am bad for overdoing it and then I am in so much pain. It's nice that you have a partner to help you. My husband died several years ago and I have just gotten worse year after year. I am very lonely now and tired. All my kids are old enough and I am only 50. It's hard living with pain by myself. I would really like to get to you better. If you would like to be internet friends let me know. {edited for privacy}. Hope you feel better soon!

First, if I was given dilaudid, I would get totally addicted to it. Okay on to the question. As a doctor, this what I would tell you to do. Make an appointment with whatever doctor is prescribing the medicine for whatever the ailment is. I would tell the doctor point blank that you are addicted to it and you want to be weaned off it but there has to be something given to replace the pain medicine or something to fix the pain because you can't live like this anymore. Period. He works for you. You pay his/her salary. Tell the dr about the puking etc. be truthful

Well to be truthful with you, the point is this dilaudid for some people is a very addictable drug but to some like me helps tremendously with pain. Thank God that I don't deal with the vomiting and the badsymptoms. But I have felt so much pain that I don't have that problem. It's just the pain.
