What Is The Best Generic Version Of Wellbutrin Xl - Watson Or Anchen? (Page 7)

Updated

My doctor will not prescribe generic Wellbutrin XL but my insurance will no longer pay for brand name drugs. I will have to pay about $7000 per yer for what I am taking now (3 of the 150mg Wellbutrin XL brand name per day). I am reading that the problem with the generics is the time release mechanism and not the drug itself and that some are better than others. Anybody have experience with the generics made by Watson and /or Anchen?

I was just prescribed Wellbutrin XL 300 mg from my PCP. I am severely depressed quit my job after 7 years have no motivation and no sexual desire. I heard really good things about the brand but my insurance isn't going to pay for it. So I went to the pharmacy and picked up the generic by Anchen and since I heard horror stories about that specific manufacturer I called them and asked them to order the Watson brand instead. I will know tomorrow if it is available. Has anyone been on either manufacturer, any undesirable side effects are you switching from the brand etc. If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I used to take Teva off & on for many years. Just changed to Watson a few days ago. Not sure how common it is- but everytime I start on Wellbutrin, I get these headache/neckaches. Also a tight jaw, I realize I am clenching me teeth. Also feel nauseated (sp?) when I eat, have to force myself to eat sometimes. The side effects lessen over time. It deffinatly helps w depression, usually feel much better within a few days! Hope it works well for you too!

Started on brand name, then went to Watson. Found Watson to be as good as brand name. Use a small mom and pop pharmacy where they will get me the generic brand I want, instead of what is simply cheaper for them.

Hi Steve...that's a huge relief for me. I picked up the Anchen brand yesterday but didn't start it as I picked it up late in the day, but upon doing research on that brand didn't want that one. I called CVS and they carry Watson. I also called Rite-Aid where I originally picked up the Anchen and asked if they could get the Watson brand and I would return the Anchen. I will find out later today. If worse comes to worse I will just have my rx transferred to CVS to get the Watson brand. Good luck

Hi Sophia. Don't mean to spend your money, but if the pharmacy will not exchange them for you, see how much the Watson generic would be without insurance. Perhaps it would pay for you to pay for it this time. (I know insurance will not pay so soon for another refill.) Good luck with the Watson brand.

I hope I don't have to pay out-of-pocket seeing as I didn't open the safety seal on the unit-dose bottle but I will just pay if they will not exchange it because I don't want to try this particular generic that people are saying they have not seen a difference on. Plus my doctor wants to see me in 3 weeks and I don't want to report that it isn't working if in fact it's just this particular manufacturer. I'm hoping for good news today!

I have been taking the generic of Wellbutrin, bupropian for quite a while. I have went off a couple of times, got back on. I never even considered a real difference between the two. That said, I have never really felt that much better, still get very down and things appear hopeless, etc. Also, I have been almost ravenous and my binge eating has gotten much worse it seems. I currently am eating enough at meals, so that should not be the problem now. I just today have hopes and am waiting on the real Wellbutrin and look forward to trying it.

I've taken the generic bupropion xl 300 mg since Wednesday and my depression seems worse! Im eating non-stop, no energy smoking like a chimney and realized I'm saying stupid things out loud when I'm getting aggrevated over stupid things. Im also very tired. I know its only been 3 days but I'm starting to think I'll just deal with this depression on my own. I don't want to continue feeling this way it's been well over a year and I finally just decided to get help. I've never been on any meds before in my life.

Give it more time to work! It can take a couple of weeks at least. I have had wonderful results, but it did take some time. Talk with your doctor. Handling it on your own does not sound like a good idea and may leave you more frustrated and discouraged.
Hang in there!LPLDO

Thanks Becky! Im going to give it more time. I see my doctor on the 18th so I will let her know if things aren't getting better. For now though, I just want to be in the dark without my family bothering me and just stay in bed. Im praying this goes away, I can't stay like this. Im not myself anymore. I also hope I will only be on the Wellbutrin for a short period of time until my depression subsides.

No harm in calling your Doctor before the 18th if you are feeling really bad. S/he might be able to help.

Dear MM: In America you either choose to sink or swim! Those at the bottom "CHOOSE" to be there.
Why should those who "work hard" pay for those who simply depend on Govt. handouts?

Boy did I have problems, Bupropion XL300 by Teva 4 years ago my body did not process it. Thought I was going Crazy! After a month working with Medco, BCBS, and a external Health advocate I got back on the name brands.Things went well for several years.Well I moved got a new Dr. and when the new script was sent to Medco. I got the generic by Achen, I realize after a couple of days it wasn't working. got the Name Brand ASAP. Started weaning off of the Welbutrion and a different medin the fall of 2011 doing well until I had picked up Bupropion HCL 75mgl by Mylan, didn't realize I headed to the bottom until I couldn't leave the house to even get groceries. Back to the Dr. since I was weaning off transitioned to Lexapro, but while cutting the Bupropion in half started having better results. Welbutrin is very expensive, but it works, the generics for me total failure!

I have tried Bupropion HCL XL300 by Teva, Anchen and Bupropion HCL 75 by Mylan. Only the name brand has work for me. I have been on Welbutrin for 12 years. This is a short and sweet version the horiffic details of basically going cold turkey from the name brand to the gen. (not utilized by my body) several times.

Hi, I'm in South Africa. I've been diagnosed with Bipolar. I've been on several different medications. 8 months ago I was put on Epitec 200mg once daily, Seraquel 300mg once daily and Wellbutrin XL 300mg also once daily. I've never felt better. It took so long to find the right combination for me. I've been on many anti deprssants and Wellbutrin is the only anti depressant that has broken through my depression. I read about who is manufacturing Wellbutrin. My label also reads GlaxoSmithKlein. My medical aid or health insurance as you call it pays 100 percent of my medication. I'm lucky there.

I don't know the manufacturer of the first generic I used but it worked; however, my ears rang all the time and my sex life was...well, mild. I changed to the Watson provided by my mail order insurance and within a few days I was crying for no reason. I didn't know what the problem was until I realized my ears didn't ring anymore...like taking a placebo. Once I went on the name brand, my ears rarely ring and my sex life....oh my! Good luck!

For me, Anchen is the one that works. It took me a month on the other generic to figure out that there really was a difference for me. I was irritable, short tempered and cried for no reason before I checked the labels to see what was different. Since then, I will not take any other generic. If the pharmacy tries to substitute, I won't pay for it. I would prefer the original but it is too expensive with my current insurance.

I am feeling the same way very irritable but I have only been on the Watson brand but it has also only been a month and it definately hasn't done anything for me. Have you tried the Watson brand before?
