What Can Cause False Positive Benzodiazepines (Page 2)

I am currently prescribed 60mg Fluoxetine, 20 mg Abilify and 10mg Zolpidem, along with 15mg Mirtazapine. I have tested positive off and on for benzos since beginning Zolpidem in June. I tested positive at 1:30pm and negative at about 6:30pm. My urine test was sent to a lab. Why does this keep happening? I am on probation and do not want to go to jail!

This to happend to me except I had stopped taking pre-gablin 6wk previousley I knew I hadn't taken any so challenged it resulting in the swab being sent back it came back a new reading as negative, as I was about to say "I told u so" to my keyworker, she beat me with "there's 5 benzo'sdiffrent 1s temezepam, diazepam etc. It must be one of them or a illegal diazepam u took" I was furious as I thought a benzo was a benzo (including 5 diffrent ones) and a new negative reading was a new negative reading! So I'm furious!

Benedrayl is a Benzo, my dr told me u gotta pay close attention to nonprescription meds and certain foods if u dont wanna test positive for Benzos, Alcohol he said shows up as a Benzo, Tylenol PM, any Pm's, vanilla flavoring, mouthwash, the list goes on and on, check all products for the alcohol ingredient, it could b why sum people are testing positive....

Temazapam ←?? Is a benzo and is in the same family as valium. U mihht as well be on valium, at least then u woukd feel it cause there the same drug. I am positive

The urine drug *screen* is a screening test. Screening tests are selected/designed for their high sensitivity. The more sensitive a test is, the more prone to false positives it is. -- Consider an earthquake sensor. A very sensitive earthquake sensor will detect the tiniest vibrations, even if it's not really an earthquake. Maybe it's just a really heavy guy walking by.

Positive urine screens need to be followed up with a confirmatory test. Confirmatory tests are chosen for their high specificity. They detect specifically what they are indended to detect and preferably nothing else. -- Continuing with the earlier example, the heavy guy would *not* be able to set off a sensor that's specific to earthquakes.

Any halfway competent clinician should know all about the pitfalls of screening tests and the need for confirmation. It's why they often say more testing is needed, and patients get frustrated that they can't get a straight answer.

As for law enforcement, they probably also know false positives are likely, but use the situation to create anxiety to make confession more likely (law enforcement tends to not care about actual guilt). Anyone in a situation where they can potentially lose their job or freedom because of a screening test without confirmation should hire a lawyer.

hey i got the same thing i only took midol that morning of the test and it came back positive for benzo's????im flipping out cause i know i didnt take any benzo..did you find out anything???

Hello I have been in xanax .5 mg for 3 years and ive been going to a methadone clinic for almost 2years. this past friday i was given a urine test & was told i was suppose to be given a mouth swab test but they were out of swabs. So I was told that Monday (tomorrow) i would have to give another urine and a mouth swab. ive looked through the methadone clinics handbook several times and theres nothing in it about mouth swabs. i have had clean urines the whole time ive been at the clinic. what can i do so that i can come up clean for the mouth swab? i cant just stop taking the xanax without serious seizures and withdrawls. like ive said ive been on xanax for years.

Ambien is a non-benzodiazapiem sleep aid. I was a pharm rep and it is NOT a benzo. It may. however show a false positive for benzos on some urine tests

Was ordered a urine test earlier today but now I'm worried! I've been really sick with a viral chest and head infection and have been on several types of. Cough syrups, I'm on hydroxyzine for severe eczema, have been taking prednisone pack, and finally they had to give me visits rail for my itching abc hives. Can this show up a false positive e for benzos? Thanks in advance...
