Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 34)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

My husband suffers from extreme chronic pain due to advanced RA. Until about 4 - 5 months ago, the pain med he took, Endocet 10-325 was effective and cut the edge off his pain. Now he gets generic for percocet 10/325 The tablets are round white with the markings RP on one side and 10 325 on the other and indicate that the amounts of the opiate and Tylenol are the same as the Endocent. They do not work as well for his pain. The pharmacies are now limited to the quantity of pain medicine the are allowed by the FDA and DEA and can only order once a month. I'm very curious how both Rxs list the exact amounts of the original Pain pills he took around 6 months ago and the new one isn't effective. What's up with this? Is the new med intentionally mislabeled? Every time my spouse goes to his Internal Med MD, she hassels him about his pain pills. She is new, as his IM of 25 years retired. Call your US senators and reps and complain. I spend at least 2 hours per month trying to get my husband's meds OK'd and delivered. I don't know why the pharmacies are limited as to the amount of pain medication they can order per month and the liquor stores can order as much booze as they want. This is insanity!!!

My husband sees his pain Dr.once a month, he asks the same questions every month, guess he has to. Husband then gets a new rx for pain meds since u need a new rx monthly.
N. J. Now ( pain drs)? Have rx pads and as per state there has to be a bar code on it. My husband's dr. Is a Godsend. My husband takes 30 mg of generic roxicette ( oxycodone) every 6 hrs. He has an extremely rare disorder, small nerve fiber neuropathy. No diabetes, there is no cure. They whoever they are do not no cause as they just don't know enough about this! How about these selfish **^#%* do some research or more resesrch on this? My husband has a great deal of pain & can barely walk a lot of days.
Drug companies care about the bottom line, they need to actually care about people and not all about profit. I just said that? Gee. What was i thinking?

If Watson has been purchased would the new company continue to produce the same medicine?

Do you know the name of the company?

Not at all....the new medicine is actavis and if you read through this thread from the beginning...you will see how different it is n how sick people have got from it.

Regarding the post that mentioned someone with a rare type of neoropathy, I wonder if his physician that has tried prescribing Amitripyline . My husband has severe nurothapathy from RA and countless surgeries. I don't think it's the rare kind mentioned in a previous post, but might possibility help. My husband's Internal Med phys didn't even think to prescribe it. I learned of it from my nurse friend who works for a dermatologist who has a kidney and pancreas transplant. My nurse friend overheard the Dr doc she works for mention that it helps immensely and my nurse friend passed it on to us and we suggested to his IM DR to prescribe it and he has found some relief. You might give it a try. The normal dosage for nuropathy is 25 mg per day, but in your case, you may need more. Now my husband's IM dr has increased his dosage to 75mg/day and wants to increase it more, but my husband refuses. He is in kidney failure and the small bones of his feet are bone on bone. On a different note, his new pain pills (generic for percoset) are manufactured by Rhodes, but the name of the med is now Oxycodone/ACET 10 mg/325 and they do not work. I also found out a useful tip that Medicare offers Hospice for the living and medicare pays for it all. They can get my spouse any pain meds he wants and probably without a co pay. So he could get the regular generic percoset that actually works. Of course, there are health criteria that qualify you for Hospice for the living. It's a benefit from medicare that we've paid for all these years. I know you've heard me say if before, but we need to bombard our congress, DEA, FDA and get this nonsense stopped. There are people in the word that truly need pain meds that work just to maintain a meager quality of life.

Lola, thank you for this post. My name is Dee25. I just recently had my post op follow from back surgery. I was given a refill on oxy 10-325. I had never had any issues with not having pain relief with this medication. Two days after taking it I noticed that I was in so much pain and did not understand why it was not working. I called my Dr office and his nurse to me to take two every 4 hours until I could get my pain under control. Well two days later I still felt no relief. I looked at the bottle and noticed that there was a different manufacturer. Instead of Watson, it was a company called Actavis! Never hears of them. I called my Dr office again and advised his nurse that this medication seemed more like a placebo, as it had no pain relieving properties. Of course, she said I would just need to come in and see Dr. In the meantime I started to read complaints, just like mine regarding this medication. Also read that since the fda did not renew patent on oxycotin after 2013, it would not allow any other manufacturer to produce this drug as the risk of people taking this med outweigh the benefits. This is where Purdu/Actavis come in; they were able to manufacture oxycodone that had addiction deterrent properties. We all know no one is addicted to the Tylenol, so it must be the opiate. This tampering with this medication changed the all pain relieving property. I have been in bed since getting this medication. I am not sleeping and have been just depressed and crying. Where is the support for people who actually are in chronic pain. I also make complaint to fda, but the website was not user friendly.

Go to CVS about a week and half ahead of time and ask to consult with the pharmacist. When it's just you and him or her lightly ask them to order Endocets for you. They are the absolute best!! And manage pain very well and actually give you a boost of energy. Just make sure you go inside and ask a week or 2 ahead of time and they will with no problem. Been doing it for a long time. Or they will give you some other oxycodone crap. Only other generic I remotely like is qualitest with a V on one side and 4829 on the other. It's also made by endo pharmaceuticals :) hope this helped!! Endo all day every day!!

True.My dr.gave me Percocet for pain and actavis is not the same strength as real Percs. It's generic. Not as effective. I concur w. you. The Blue round pills are the true Percocet.

Endocet, a generic for perocet is still available full strength as you formerly received before the DEA and FDA limited the amount of pain killers each pharmacy can order per month. if you ask your pharmacist to order it for you and put your name on the pharmacy list for this Rx, you can still get it. The pharmacies are allowed to order pain meds once a month and usually they receive the pain meds at the pharmacy around the 1st of the month. The copay is higher and the cash price higher than the dud pain killer from Actavis. Get your name on the list with the pharmacist to get the good kind and he will order it for you. Most pharmacies no longer order the endocet because the Actavis is cheaper to the pharmacy and customer. Cause the cash price to consumer is cheaper w/ no pain relief from the brand by Actavis. You can still have your pharmacist order the old effective pain killer, but call ahead a couple off weeks before the 1st if the month. Be prepared to pay more, but it actually relieves pain.

My God, I thought I was going crazy...I also have been on percocet for years for severe fybromyalgia, osteoporosis, with arthritis. Suddenly, Walgreen's says Watson no longer makes it. I get no relief and have the same GI problems with tightness in jaws, ringing in ears, not able to function with depression. I was tentative to ask the pharmacy or Dr about this issue. Why? Because the gov. And pharmacy have become big brother and I call them the pill Nazis!!!? Dear God what has become of this country??? When you can't get what you need because some *****s sell this stuff on the st??? I believe that they are adding or deleting something or getting them from China..Walgreen's and most other pharmacies bid on the open market each month to procure the cheapest medicine available. They make billions and we suffer. And just like cattle, the public blindly follows and be lives the load of baloney they feed us. They changed oxycontin so it would be less platable to the drug dealers and less effective to those of us who need it to have some quality of life. I no longer get the relief to be able to function...now I'm afraid to take any of my meds.

As far as your comment about the heart meds? Yes it is true ! As sad as it is ...did it to me! It's all about the mighty dollar ! I am on perks also and seems every time I get a script filled ..always changing..I look it up to make sure they gave me the correct...it's nuts ..and yes they r not all the same .

I have been on oxycodone/tylenol for 16 yrs for failed back surgery pain. I have noticed the last several months that my medicine may as well be chalk pills (I think they are) Makes me so angry. Being treated like a guinea pig. I've went to different pharmacies to see if that was the problem but it's all crap now. Its just horrible to suffer and find out there is no help. Now it just gives me a headache and upset stomach on top of the back pain.

I feel you pain I was having the same problem as you until I went to Shopko and the carried the brand name of Mallinckrodt which works better than actijunk. I agree with you they are using chalk because the fda is trying to take pain relievers off the market and are telling doctors to tell their patients to go to PT and take Motrin. Gee that helps thanks to the pillbillies for making us all suffer.

Yes Lola! It was like over night when it first took place. Unfortunately it has to do with the government and 'caused so much difficulty for myself and so many others. Even still to this day I have horrid problems as a chronic pain sufferer for over a decade.
I'm not sure but I think it's due to an epidemic of abusers and dealers. That messed it up for those with real legit pain.

I had plain/regular (no HCL or ER or w/e type... mine is regular) tab mall 15mg and just got tab acta 15mg oxycodone. I'll see if one is better than the other but really it's just the fillers that matter. On tab mall I would get GI problems... mainly constipation. Just took the tab acta and it seems the same so far. It is really about your needs. I don't need Tylenol or hydro (anything). I wouldn't mind trying oxymorphone, however, I still need to function without being side-affected either (drowsiness, constipation, keeping focused, etc.) Oxycodone/oxycontin to me is better than anything hydro. Why? Is there hydrogen or oxygen in your blood? Plus hydros make me sick like taking 4 Tylenol's/ibu's (like advil) or even aspirin. I've tried white Willow bark, other joint lubrication supplements and nothing seems to get rid of my pain except for oxy's.

Watson merged with Actavis. They are now one in the same. But the pills are terrible, and do not give relief whatsoever. Might as well take a Tylenol. So disappointing for people who really need pain relief.

I'm feeling exactly the same. Are you taking the hydrocodone or oxycodone? I'm taking the hydrocodones, and these Actavis ones don't work. I'm sitting here in pain so bad that I'm crying.

Hello, I'm taking hydrocodone but not generic - I can only take Vicodin by the manufacturer Abvie. I tried the watson generic hydrocodone and never ever again it made me so ill I can't even describe the feeling I had it was so bad. It has to be the fillers and binders because I take the Vicodin now ever since Watson percocet was no more and I have no side effects and do get some pain relief. However, I do take more of the VIcodin than I did the Watson because it was oxycodone and not hydrocodone and Watson in my opinion was so pure and good that I didn't need to take more than 15 mg. every day. I do remember the withdrawals from percocet were excruciating and lasted for months on end for me. I remember starting this blog over 2 years ago now out of complete disbelief of what was happening to the drug and now hope they don't mess with the Vicodin because there is nothing out there that works and most of it is poison pills to me. I hope everyone is doing okay now and have adjusted to our new normal. If anyone wants to update this blog and let us know what you are taking and how you are managing your pain it would be great to hear from you.
