Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 3)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

I agree Martin. They make us sign pain contracts, and then still threaten us when we are in pain. It's really crazy! I'm afraid to ever say the pain meds aren't working again. I almost lost what I had the last time. It's like they know you're at they're mercy, and treat you accordingly!

Hi all,
Yes I was always afraid to say the pain meds werent working enough becasue they would try and switch you to something else. So I just go in and say "everything's great" and hope they move me on quickly. For the last year that has worked out well. Now this Actavis crap. It doesnt work and I can't "live" with it. It is getting worse. Now I'm having withdrawal issues. Oh and the Watson kept my BP in check. These don't. BP last nite was 170/110. I had a brain hemorraghe and high BP can cause another one. I have had 3 minor strokes in the last year. They are called TIA's. Caused by high BP. SO now I'm scared to have another one. Wife is bipolar and sick of me complaining about pain. She yelled at me last night "When are you gonna get better". I don't know. But this is added stress I dont need. Felt so sick last nite. Pain and nausea make me want to cry. If I dont feel better will try and get in earlier than 3-18. Hope evceryone is doing ok.

Hi Martin, how are you doing? I read your recent post and I am so sorry you are having a very tough time. I also am and have been dealing with alot of depression. I know you said you were going to try oxycodone when you get your rx re-filled but I am confused weren't you on oxycodone the Watson brand? So do you mean you will get the brand name next time?

Hi Jan, thanks for asking however, no I am getting worse I think because of the pain has now really started to flare up and as others have posted the depression is taking over every minute of the day. If I knew that one day this was what I would have to deal with on a daily basis I tihnk I would have not gone the narcotic pain pill route. But you know how it is when you have tried everything which is what I did five years before going on perocet, you find something that takes away the pain and you suddenly have your life back - well need I say more. I am concerned when I get my rx refilled the next time what I should try. Now after this actavis crap i almost feel paranoid about the other one I will be getting. Are you still taking the Actavis? If you are you are one of the lucky ones that it doesn't cause so many of the side effects for you. Hope you are having a good day.

Switching from hydrocodone to oxycodone changes the painkilling ingredient. Oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone, and can really slow down your digestive tract. Also, the effects are more intense. My mother cannot stand oxycodone, but is just fine with hydrocodone for her hip issues. From what you said, they changed the drug, not just the generic manufacturer. Hope this helps.

Hope this helps.

Martin, I know it's hard to say anything, because of fear of losing your pain medication. Maybe you could speak with the advice nurse, and tell her what's going on. Your blood pressure being high as you know, shouldn't be taken lightly. When my doctor threatened to put me on Suboxone, I called the clinic and asked to speak with someone. I was told, that I always have a choice and that they can't just stop my pain medication. If you tell the advice nurse, your blood pressure changed after starting the Actavis brand, you might be able to get something else. Just a few suggestions, I hope I'm not overstepping. Let us know how it goes.

Hi cski, I did some research, and Watson is now Actavis. I don't know why the formula changed with the name. As you can see, we are all suffering from outcome. Thank you for the information about the Hydrocodone, I didn't know about that. As I said, from the comments made here, they will be losing a lot of money!

Hi Lola,

No, I wish I was one of the more lucky ones. It's just been almost a month, and I've been taking regular tylenol with the Actavis. No, it still doesn't help much, but I think the steroids might have helped some. Now that my 6 days of taking that is over, the pain is worse. I start Gabapentin tomorrow for nerve pain, but I was told that I can still take the percocet. I was also told it could take a month to experience any pain relief. I am very concerned about running out of my pain medication. In the days remaining, I expect to be in a lot of pain, because I will have to make this junk last.

I will check back tomorrow, to see how everyone is doing. I'm having a lot of stomach trouble today. I have a tendency to get intestinal blockages, and this medicine is making that worse. I didn't mention this symptom before, because I didn't want to get too graphic. Not having a good day! I hope everyone gets a chance to call the company. I think It might do us all some good.

Hello all,

Yes Jan, I'm having intestinal issues too. Worse than usual. Thankfully a stool softener has worked so far. Is this Actavis crap some sort of cheap Hydrocodone? Why was Hydro brought up. I did notice on the med sheet it said "do not take this if you are allergic to hydrocodone". Dont remeber it saying that before. Vicodin (Hydro) does not work for me. Not strong enough.
Went to bed at 8 last nite. Sick and in pain. Have taken a few more Actavis than I'm supposed to cause theyre so weak. Not a ton more but I'm sure the doctors will scold me. Somebody turned the heat up at work yesterday. It was like 80 degrees in the office. I have headaches. This doesnt help. It was pure torture ladies.
Jan, I know about the docs. My docs always try if you say your pain meds arent working all kinds of other crap. I WILL be going in and saying Oxycodone works, lets not change ANYTHING. It was working until the Acatavis junk. I guess my choices are Roxicet or pure (brand) Oxycodone. Thats what the pharmacist told me.
And maybe add Tylonel OTC to it. I may call Actavis but doubt they will do much. I tried once and was on hold for a while. Should I email. Hope everyone is doing ok today. yesterday my co worker called in sick. I had to do two peoples jobs in horrible pain. Absolute torture. happy Friday gals!

I had the unfortunate experience of taking a Actavis 5/325 oxycodone/apap generic last night. I have never had such horrible heart palpatations or anxiety!! And it barely touched the severe headache I took it for and left me with a worse headache 2 hours after my second pill (6 hours apart.) I have contacted Walgreen's who claims they haven't had any complaints besides mine (yeah right) and I've emailed Actavis. I also downloaded the form to complain to the FDA and encourage you all to do the same. This is unacceptable. Here's the link to the FDA form. fda.gov/downloads/AboutFDA/ReportsManualsForms/Forms/UCM349464.pdf

Hi Jan, so sorry you are having the stomach issue I had the same thing along with cramping which I NEVER had with Watson. I totally agree with you we must all call the company that is the ONLY way this situation can be turned around. I have emailed the company with a very long rant so I know they got it. If you can't get through calling please email them. The more complaints is going to be the only way to get this fixed - the only way. Have a good day all.

Hi Naomi,

I will certainly use the form to complain. I will have to do it later, because the Gabapentin that I took has me feeling terrible. I am dizzy and very tired and drowsy. I will not be taking this medication for nerve pain. I would rather stick with the opiates.

Hi Martin,

Yes, I still have nausea. It got a little better after I ate lunch. Sometimes seven-up or sierra mist helps. I'm sorry if this message is weird, It's this Gabapentin. I am going to try to sleep it off. I will get back to you all this evening. I have not heard from Actavis pharma yet!

Hello, yes please email Actavis and another post by Naomi posted a link to the FDA I have already emailed them with a long list of what is going on. We have to do something and the only was is to complain and let them know we all have a voice. I will also be using that link to the FDA.

Hi Martin, and everyone,

Like you said Martin, they always try to push you onto some other drug. I feel so terrible. It's bad enough, that this Actavis has slowed me down to almost a crawl, now they had to add something else. I'm about to e-mail the sports medicine doctor, to let her know I will not be taking Gabapentin! I have not gotten anything done today. I've been in my bedroom for 2 days, this is not living!

Jan, sorry to hear you are feeling so bad and that you are in bed. I must not have read your post correctly sorry about that but i too was given gabapentin years ago. I guess it is used off label for nerve pain but is a seizure medication if I am correct. Anyway, I just like you could not tolerate this med. It made me sick as well and doesn't touch nerve pain. The opiod meds in my opinion are better for nerve pain. It still is so unbelievable that we cannot get Watson anymore. It was the only generic that took away all the pain with no side effects. This is just awful for so many of us. I will also be contacting the link to the FDA.

Hi Lola,

Thank you for thinking about me. Everything you said about Gabapentin is true. I was kind of caught up, in what the doctor was saying. It really sounded like something that would help. It is finally wearing off so I feel better. i do feel like another day has been wasted. Wednesday, I drummed up the strength to cook a nice dinner for a change. I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. I even made a pecan pie. It must be the stress of these pills, because I am eating way too much sugar. I'm actually losing weight since I got this brand of opiate. I tend to lose my appetite, when I'm in a lot of pain. Well. I guess I will try to work on my new project, a sweater coat. Thanks for reminding me about the link.

Martin,

My heart really goes out to you. I hope since it's Friday, you will be able to get some rest this weekend. I'm glad that we can all be a listening ear for one another. Sometimes your loved ones, get tired of hearing about your aches and pains. I've kind of gotten used to trying to hold it inside. I'm glad I found this forum. Thanks everyone for your support.
