Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 18)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

That is very sad Lola. My dad passed away of cancer and he took one watson percocet every morning. Only one but it was his favorite brand. He never even wanted brand name. I don't do well with aspirin. It tends to give me an upset stomach so I really want to stick with endocet. I was doing really well on those. They are definitely by far my favorite of all the ones I tried.

Hi lola, I ferl so bad ur having such a hard time finding something....my mallinkrodt helps A LITTLE, but its better than nothing. U might have to up ur meds to 10/325 n stop the 5/325's completely. I think most of us r taking 10/325 so when we report about how theyre working, we're reporting on a different strength. Also, have you tried eating a meal before you take ur meds? I wonder if taking ur neds on a full stomach will prevent you from getting that nauseous feeling. Im really looking forwsrd to hear how the percodan from watson helps with pain relief!

I apologize if I confused folks with my post. I said in it I take NORCO 10/325. Read on...

The ones by QUALITEST (yellow small oblong) provide me better relief than percodan. It's worth trying because this one company makes medications with good pain relief. 1 Qualitest feels like 2 Malinkrodt percodan for me.

The Malinkrodt fillers make me vomit horribly and thus the post. They have put in a filler so people can't abuse it.

NORCO by Qualitest is available by order thru CVS.

I live in CALIFORNIA a and had to ask at 4 CVS stores, speak ONLY to the pharmacist.

They will tell you the FDA has these on the diversion list. Ask around in person and don't give up.

If they know you'll be getting a monthly rx, you'll have a better chance as their bottle comes in 1000.

Hi sara.....im on the mallinkrodt generic Percocet 10/325's n I dont think they put the abuse deterrent in it or any of their meds. Ive read up alot on the internet about all this crap since the Watson's went off the shelf. From everything ive read, over n over, Perdue pharmaceuticals had the patent on the abuse deterrent formula. That patent expired n Actavis started using it in their oxycodone n oxycotin. Perdue had a suit against them or something but actavis was awarded use of the formula for the year 2014while they try to get fda approval to go further. Perdue and Actavis r the only 2 names ive seen come up in any search results pertaining to pain meds, Actavis, Watson, Percocet, generic Percocet, abuse deterrent pain medication, abuse deterrent formula, etc.. where did youcatch word mallinkrodt is using the abuse deterrent formula in their Percodan?

A pharmacist told me this is why some people are reacting/side effects.

It wasn't MY pharmacist though, so, we hear so many things....

It's hard to know what's real....aaaargg!

Hi Sara, are you taking percodan then or norco? Everyone I wanted to update I did start the percodan which is by Watson and so far I have had no side effects and pain relief. The first day I had to experiment though because I had a little stomach upset but it was because I am not used to eating before I take my meds. So the next time I had some peanut butter and crackers and the peanut butter is heavy and sticky so then I took my pill and had no issues. I don' get jittery or anxious and the best part is I don't get that horrible dragged out sleepy feeling. The only thing different from percodan and percocet by Watson for me is the percodan I do not get the slight euphoria or warm feeling that I got from Watson. But so far this is the one that does actually work like watson did as far as getting pain relief. I only see my pain management doctor every two months so until June I have to take this. Now, he might just give me the percodan for break through pain because of the aspirin long term. I will still have to deal with what i will do at my next visit but it isn't until June so I have a long way to go. At least I can get pain relief now and not have to down 10 pills to get relief and I am not deathly ill like I was from the actavis, the brand and the endocet. I can't believe I have 3 bottles of different percocets on the shelf and can't use any of it. I am going to turn it all into my doctor when I see him even though he doesn't require me to do this. However, I will ad I am still depressed - I can't get over the depression. That is what has been the hardest part for me. Is anyone else experiencing depression? Sara if you are using the percodan how is it working for you?

I am so happy to hear that Lola. I am sticking with the Endocet brand. My doctor wrote no substitutions and they are ordering it for me. I hate brand name. I think I like the endocet better then the watson because they don't cause constipation. Once I adjusted to the change I find they work best for me with no side effects. They are helping my pain so much. Jennifer are you sticking with the mallinckrodt?

Hiya Lola! Just Norco now. And if they don't have qualitiest I ONLY get watson. It's so much cleaner than Malinkrodt for me. The Mals make me projectile vomit!

I call my pharmacy a few days ahead to make sure they order Watson at CVS and I don't get stuck with Mals. Give 4 days to order.

For the depression, get to your med psychiatric and get Cymbalta. It also works on chronic pain, so less opiates needed at times-yay! They can use Ability to boost Cymbalta effectiveness. A good med psych will adjust your Cymbalta, then add Ability if you max out dosage wise.

I've taken Cymbalta since it came into the market. The world went from being Grey to color and my energy level shot thru the roof in a healthy way.

Sleep is better quality as well.

I forgot your other questions. ..lol. will repost if I missed anything...:)

Right...your useless pills... In CA, the doctor can't accept them, nor the pharmacy. Idk about your state.

you may want to keep them in case your doctor dies or changes and you need something in a pinch. Place a 1" square of unscented dryer sheet in bottle so they'll stay dry not disintegrate...

TO DISCARD according to doctor...Place in a Ziploc bag of your scooped dirty kitty litter and discard in middle of wet garbage. Never flush as they're toxic to marine life.

This way they can decompose from kitty litter and become dry landfill. Antibiotics and old OTC drugs, too...

This way addicts won't be rooting in your trash each week for old pills.

Remove bottle labels and recycle at CVS.

Hi everyone,

I agree Sara, it's best to keep those old pain meds. You never know when you might need them. I'm still using Mallinckrodt brand percocet 5/325. I tried to get stronger, but my doctor won't do it. So I'm just happy to have something for pain. I think my body is getting used to the brand I have. Coming up next month will be the 3rd refill. I was told by my sports med doctor, that my spinal damage has spread. It is now C-3 thru C-7. So that explains the increased pain. At least I know it wasn't just drug tolerance. That's how I felt I was being treated, by some of the doctors I saw. So, It sounds like everyone is at least getting some pain relief. That is good at least. Sometimes that's the best we can hope for. Have a good day all.

Hi Sara, thanks for the advice on the depression but I have never taken an anti-depressent because before using narcotics I was never depressed. I believe what I am going through now is having had to go through somewhat of withdrawals every month since I couldn't get my regular pain meds by watson that I had been on for the last four years. It was a shock to my system both mentally and physically as I am sure it was for all of us. I really don't want to go on another med that has the potential to be addicting and have withdrawals if I ever wanted to stop. I saw a post by a woman about withdrawals and she said getting off percocets was nothing cmpared to getting off her anti-depressents. I will try to get more exercise in now that I am getting a bit more pain relief from the watson percodan and I have cut down on sugar quite a bit and my appetite has not been huge so that is a good thing. Martin - have not heard from you in a very long time? How are you doing with your pain meds now? Are you adjusting and what are you taking now?

Lola-i love your approach. I meditate and do yoga each morning upon rising to clear body and soul. And I walk, too and swim in the sea on good days...rare, but sweet when they happen.

For anyone else interested, most antidepressants like Prozac are SSRIs.

They place serotonin into overdrive in the brain. When one stops them, it takes 30-60 days for serotonin to return to normal levels.

we need serotonin to feel good, thus the crash.

Cymbalta is a SERI. In a nutshell, It converts epinephrine (adrenaline) instead. Which most of us have plenty of due to anxiety.

So no serotonin cliff when one wears off.

Maybe someone else needs the info.

Thanks for introducing the topic:)

Watson generic 7.5/325 worked great for my migraines for a few yrs now with no nausea and I could function fine. Got a new script and bottle said Actavis as the manufacturer, but didn't know this til after I had taken one and got no pain relief- just nausea and tiredness. Are they changing the formula or what? Pills still say Watson on them. I know they're not the same. I tried to get answers from Actavis but didn't. I think everyone that has a complaint should call that company. I'm goingto keep pressing for answers. I can take tylenol for cheaper and get no pain relief if that's the case.

very interesting thanks for sharing - do you know what the ingredients are for endocet generic percocet and what about the old watson percocets that are the 5/325 not the 10/325. I was on the watson 5/325 for years and was wondering what was in those and if there is a difference in the ingredients in those and the 10/325. Thanks for posting this info.

I saw a post by drewsanmore that I must have missed and just saw it today about the ingredients in different generic manufacturers of percocet. I was wondering what was in the endocet generic percocet and the old watson 5/325 percocet. I know most of everyone on this blog is taking the 10/325. I think Jan mentioned she is taking the 5/325.

Jan-ask your doc if you can add an Advil or 2 when you need it. Mine recommended it and I find it works when I overdo and have muscle pain.

I only use it sparingly and it helps unknot my back and shoulders.

I also take a long hot bath with a double handful of lavender Epsom salts by Dr.Teal, (i think) brand name at whole foods or CVS. ~$8.

It releases extra lactic acid stored in muscles, helping me to relax and sleep.

And 500mg. Of Vitamin D one hour before bedtime promotes deeper and more restorative sleep as well.
