Vyvanse Insomnia

Updated

i know one of the side effects of vyvanse is insomnia. i can't sleep at all on this stuff, usually i get four or five hours of sleep per two nights. on a good day i'll get six or seven but again, that's over the span of two nights. i take vyvanse every morning except for the weekends, and it gives me enough energy that i can function mentally as though i've gotten all the sleep i need, but my body is achy and sore, and it's starting to make me feel a bit ill. Not to mention i have trouble getting out of bed at all on the weekends when i don't take it. all i'm basically asking is this- people with 60-70mgs, if you have the same problem, how do you get to sleep? is there any way to combat the insomnia without nullifying the medicine? I already take Olanzipine (spell?) but it does nothing but worsen the achy-ness of my exhausted body, and on the rare occasion it does help me sleep i'm exhausted through the entire next day, even when i take my vyvanse again. if i manage to get help here i'm gonna talk to my doctor about quitting Olanzipine, it was prescribed purely to combat insomnia (because i could never fall asleep before 3 am even /before/ starting vyvanse) and all it ever did before was make me exhausted all the time and now it rarely does anything to help. i also take Levothyroxin for my Hypothyroidism, could that be a contributing factor?

If Vyvanse lasts that long for you, your dose may be a little too high.

Olanzapine helps with schizophrenia & depression, but there are much better choices for insomnia.

I'd suggest switching from olanzapine to either clonidine or guanfacine. They're commonly prescribed with stimulants for ADHD. I've used both and found them very effective.

i've been on clonidine before... and i've tried lower doses but they don't do hardly anything for me. to be honest, i'm really just looking for a natural aid... like, something to do that doesn't require drugs but won't mess with the vyvanse.

@Kaycee,

Speaking of natural aids, have you considered looking into various meditation techniques for overcoming the insomnia?

One thing that really helps me when my mind wont shut off at night, is to simply focus my awareness on my breathing; and I'd basically maintain that train of thought until my mind becomes silent enough to fall asleep. I can't say it works for everyone right away, but I'd be willing to bet if you practice it enough for at least a few minutes at a time, you'd begin to notice some benefit without having to rely on medication alone to calm your thoughts.

There's also sound therapy, healing frequencies, binaural beats, essential oils, herbs, and other modalities you can use to enhance your meditative state of being, helping you alleviate stress prior to bedtime as well.

I hope this helps!
