Vitamin D2 1.25mg Toxcity

Updated

I was prescribed Vitamin D2 1.25 mg to be taken once a week for five weeks after my D level was tested and came back at a level of 21. I took the first dose 5 days ago and for the past four days I have experienced intense muscle and bone pain, drowsiness, weakness, shortness of breath, burning sensation in my bladder. Could I be experiencing an overdose? Is this too high of a dosage in comparison to my level being 21?

The symptoms you've described may actually be due to the deficiency.

The dosage you're taking does convert to 50,000IUs, but tests show that toxicity doesn't usually occur at that dose, unless it's taken daily for several months.

There is a small chance that the dosage is too much for you, at once and could be causing the symptoms, but you should talk to your doctor to get to the root of the problem.

I had very similar symptoms driving me crazy, because I had no idea what the problem was, until testing showed that my D was very low. I had moved to the Pacific Northwest, where sun is much more scarce than where I used to live. I'm also very fair skinned and my medications make me sun sensitive, so I avoid it. :-) I'd rather take a supplement.

Were any of your other vitamin levels checked?

These are almost certainly symptoms that you are actually just very very low in Vitamin D. If you were low, there would be virtually zero chance that you are experiencing toxicity at these dosages. Even a child could take the dosage that you stated and not experience toxicity. More likely, these are just Vitamin D Side Effects. But do not think that you need to just suffer through them, these symptoms actually MEAN something and you should read the page above to find out why you are probably both extremely vitamin D deficient and why you probably have other nutrient deficiencies that are being expressed from taking the Vitamin D.
