Vitamin B12 is one of the eight B vitamins. It is a water-soluble vitamin which plays a major role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, as well as for the formation of blood. It is often involved in the metabolism of every human cell in the body,which especially affects DNA synthesis and regulation as well as fatty acid synthesis and energy production.

Indications and administration:

Vitamin B 12 is used in the treatment of vitamin B 12 deficiency, the hereditary deficiency of transcobalamin II, and cyanide poisoning. It is sometimes given as part of the Schilling test for detecting pernicious anemia. Many people take vitamin B 12 as a trans-dermal patch or injection so that more of the vitamin is effectively transported into the bloodstream. I've personally used vitamin B 12 patches to boost my energy levels and I did feel that it made a great difference.

Safety:

Vitamin B 12 has very low levels of toxicity, even in very large doses it doesn't appear to be harmful to healthy individuals.

Availability:

You can find B 12 in most health food stores and vitamin shops.
