Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Thanks, and keep me updated on how you feel. I take Welbutrin and am adding this med. Used to take Lexapro with the Welbutrin, but it just make me feel like nothing, so I got off it. Hopefull, and from what I have read, this is a lot better!!

Will do! Am very hopeful as well. Lot of anxiety during the transition, but I think that's the Effexor getting out of my system.

I have never taken it, but can provide a little information about it.

It contains the active ingredient Vilazodone and it is approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder. Unlike similar medications, it has been shown to help in as little as one week, with major improvement being shown around 8 weeks.

It is also well tolerated and, so far, has been shown to have minimal side effects, but those that were experienced can include: somnolence, diarrhea and nausea.

More details:

Are there any other questions?

I have some side effects of diaharrea... sometimes not real bad but can be annoyhing at times. I am wondering if heat can affect someone more on Viibyrd. I get nausea with heat (and it gets hot where I live... last week it was 115 with heat index). Also I get hot easier... almost like hot flashes but since I am not old enough to get those, I am not sure what is going on. I do know I was not experiencing this on my previous medicine (Celexa).

Just finished my first week on the 5Mg tablets. Also experiencing some nausea. Anxiety seems to be lifting. Can now emotionally connect with TV shows. Still not able to read and exersize is still out for now. Have very high hopes!

Just started it today. Ran out of Cymbalta last night and my drs appt was this morning. How convenient! My doc gave me the sample package which titrates you from 10mg to 40mg in 30 days. He had JUST received them from the pharm rep and was excited to have a "guinea pig." LOL I love and trust my doc (11 years now) and he has high hopes for this one, so I'm game. I'm hoping for a little energy out of it and maybe even some weight loss? (I know. That is far too much to ask. *sigh*)
One thing he stressed is to take the meds WITH FOOD. He said that should greatly reduce the likelihood of any g/i side effects.
I'll keep posting and watching as time goes on.

I'm starting this today too. I'm on Welbutrin XL but it's made my anxiety 10 times worse. Can't take zanax b/c of a suicide attempt two years ago and inpatient nuthouse stay...sigh...so I'm hopeful this will help. I'm bipolar with a lot more down than up. Can anyone relate?

Can definitely relate to the anxiety. Difficult to make it through the day. I'm is my second week of Viibryd and it appears to be helping. Good luck!

I am soooo glad I can take my Xanax!! I have major anxiety when driving and it has helped me soooo much!! I had gotten to the point I could hardly go anywhere without going very slow. Still working on it, but the Xanax is great!! Glad to know someone has been taking the Viibryd a couple of weeks... So far I am doing fine...I noticed today in a stressful situation that I didn't get as crazy as normal...lol.. Glad there are people to talk to about this new med...!

I took my first dose last night with food and woke up at 4am sick to my stomach and hungry. I hate to eat a bowl of cereal and it was hard to get back to sleep. I hope this side effect stops soon. I was really hungry today, but I've been trying to eat light, just several small meals throughout the day, but my stomach is growling constantly. Also tired, with a tension headache. I thought I would try taking this with my Welbutrin since welbutrin isn't a maoi but an ssri....anyone else doing this? Maybe it's too much together?

I am taking both Wellbutrin and the Viibryd. I am on my 9th day and am doing wel. I was a little sick at first, and now taking Flagyl for a abcess tooth (hopefully getting that fixed tomorrow) so I have had to make a point to make sure I eat (which I normally don't) breakfast. The doc told me not to take the Viivryd at night because it could cause insomnia, and I definately don't need that, I have had enough problems sleeping..... I don't know which is making me a little sickly in the morning, but it isn't anything a couple of peanut butter crackers doesn't help. I don't see why the Wellbutrin would have anything to do with the Viibryd, they are different meds...at least to me. I have to take the Wellbutrin..lol.. But, as you said, I have felt hungry too, but so far haven't gained any weight, which is a very big deal to me. I also take thyroid meds. Hope you get to feeling better, keep posting...

I had a better night last night, although I woke up at 4am again, just not hungry like I was before. I didn't have much trouble going back to sleep, so I think I'll keep trying to take my wellbutrin during the day, and the viibryd in the evening for balance. i'm also on topamax and i'm going to try to take all 100mgs of that in the evenings since it makes me really loopy and sleepy, perhaps it will knock me out enough to keep me from waking up at 4am again. so far no headache today so that's good, and less of a fog feeling, also less anxiety, feel more calm. yesterday my heart was racing a bit and i was worried i might be getting a bit manic but i didn't. husband was disappointed cuz he really likes the "crazy sex", but i'd prefer not to end up in the hospital for a week again.

Going into day 7 and so far, so good. I do feel a little bit better already, although I don't know if it's the Viibryd itself or the "blah factor" from the Cymbalta wearing off. We'll see, I guess. Wonder what the jump to 20mg will be like. I also take Vyvanse for ADHD and it seems like the Viibryd is prolonging the efficiency of the Vyvanse. (I hope so, because I am maxed out at 70mg of Vyvanse and it was starting to lose its effect too quickly.) I will say that I'm with LS...thank God for my Xanax! I have felt a little more on edge the past few days, but just a little dose of Xanax takes care of that and I feel pretty darn good. = ) LS, I know what you mean about driving. I sometimes become overwhelmed by the fear that someone is going to hit me and I either creep along or pull over completely. I have GAD and people always ask me how I can drive/function on Xanax every day. I have to tell them that there are often times that I can't drive/function WITHOUT it. And thanks everyone for posting! Keep it up, because it sounds like we are all kind of "guinea pigs" with this.

Wow, Tiger, glad I am not the only one...people just don't understand...I didn't understand when my mother was going through all of it either, just thought it was nuts. Just kind of snuck up on me little by little. I swore up and down I wouldn't be like that!! I have noticed a little more anxiety too...course going through I bunch and my son has been home from college, sooo, I don't get to drive much. I have to keep my mind in practice..lol...My xanax is definately my saving grace! And I thank the Lord for my doctor that will give it to me!!..lol I start on 40mg of the Viibryd tommorrow, I really think it is making me feel better!! :)

You mentioned that you're feeling a little more anxiety. I too am feeling that. Not sure if it's the Effexor leaving my system or something else. You also mentioned that Xanax helps. Does it help with the anxiety? I have a Dr Appt this afternoon and am thinking of asking him if I can try Xanax. I start my 40Mg dose of Viibryd in a couple of days. Thanks!

I've been on viibryd for 6 years. I feel as though it's no longer working. Get brain zaps, more depressed, anxiety, etc.

What are WD symptoms going from 40 to 20?

Re: Susie Q (# 1051) Expand Referenced Message

I felt the same when I started it; 40 sounds like a lot, but I believe it is considered the “therapeutic” dose. I didn’t feel joy again until I reached that dose. 17 months now and no side effects. I feel like it was made for me. Just don’t take it at bedtime; it seems to cause nightmares.

Just started Viibryd 3rd day and feeling better....lamectal down to 100...and yes Xanax helps me sleep and lorazepam I take as needed daytime ( Xanax makes me too groggy to drive)
I pace a lot ...thinking Viibryd is starting to slightly alter that...started on 10 for 5 days 20 after that. Has anyone felt good at 10 and didn’t have to go to 20?

I see that this discussion is pretty old, but I just wanted to contribute. I started Viibryd in August of 2016 after trying a number of other medications without success. I finally had a genetic test done called Genesight. It revealed that Viibryd would be a good choice for my metabolism. Due to my fear related to past experiences with medication, I started out at only 5 mg. I eventually reached the therapeutic dose of 40 mg in October. By the end of that month I could feel my anxiety subsiding and my depression lifting. Now, in January 2018, I am feeling fabulous. I can honestly say I have never felt so well in my enire life. The only issue I had early on was sleep paralysis and nightmares, but when I switched from taking it before bedtime to taking it with breakfast, that has completely subsided. My anxiety and depression are COMPLETELY gone.

If I didn't take it at the same time every day I would first yawn a lot and if I still didn't take it I would easily be angered.

Viibryd NEEDS to be taken on a full stomach! I take it after supper. I do get short of breath a few hours later, but it only lasts about 20 min or so and I do some DEEP breathing which helps it a lot. I've been taking it for about 6 months now. I did the 10-20-40 routine, but have now dropped back to the 20 which is where I think I'll stay.

I have had anxiety attacks during the middle of the night and found out they were related to low blood sugar. When your blood sugar gets dangerously low your body secrets adrenaline to bring it back to normal when it does not receive more glucose from eating something. Make sure to rule out that your blood sugar is being kept stable.

Xuxu,
I came off the Viibryd and was treated with prednisone which saved my life. It wasn't too difficult to come off of the drug. I went back to Wellbutrin and it helped considerably.
After a month treatment of prednisone, the lupus (as well as dermatomyositis- also triggered by Viibryd) is no longer active.

I wish you good luck, Xuxu!

I've been in Viibryd for close to 3 months, I was started out on 10 mg. and 1 month later increased to 20 mg. I'm having side effects with the increased dose, brain zaps, headaches, occasionally slight convulsion. Does anyone relate to this?
