Victan 2 Mg

Hi. I have palpitations due to a slight form of cardiomyopathy but I am also having OCD, depression and anxieties. Lately I have more stress in my life and palps, my doctor subscribed me (a couple of days ago) Victan (1 mg twice a day) and my pvc's are gone. Now I am afraid that I have to take Victan for the rest of my life, since it can be addictive. How does Victan work on the palps? I am not imagining the palpitations... Thank you.

Hi Kaytie,

Based on my research, Victan contains the active ingredient Ethyl loflazepate. It is a benzodiazepine derivative which possesses anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant properties.

I believe your doctor may have prescribed this to you for the anxiety you are experiencing, as this medications is used as a short term treatment for anxiety disorders.

The heart problems (palpitations) you are experiencing could also be due to anxiety, as well as other factors like your diet and exercise habits. If the Victan helps your anxiety, I imagine that it could help with the palpitations.

If you are afraid of becoming addicted to the Victan, I would share those concerns with your doctor so he can make certain to keep you on a lower dose. If you sense that you are becoming dependent on the medication, speak with him/her about alternatives. You may also want to consider certain supplements or other means of treating the anxiety.

There are supplements that act in a similar way as Victan, but may not be as strong. A couple supplements worth looking into are holy basil and valerian root.

I did have another panic-attack yesterday and I am going for some more help at a therapist. I have my heart-issue since 2005 and since then my life has been a 'hell'. I was always scared to have another attack of fast heartrate (the way it started in 2005). The story is quite long. I also have thyroidissues (which are under control), I have ménière and OCD and depression. I try to live a normal life but once I start to concentrate on what I feel in the 'heart-area' it's getting worse. I feel the palpitations and it's very hard not to focus on them. Lately I was put on sulpiride for ménière (it's an anti-psychotic which also works for ménière-patients) but that made my cycle turn upside-down. I didn't ovulate anymore and I had several in between bleedings without real menstruation. I also know that my heart is more 'active' with palps when my cycle is not 'right', or around ovulation. So, now I quitted the sulpiride and I wait until my menstruation is going back to normal (but the sulpiride also worked on my anxietylevels, now that this effect is gone I have to reset myself again and take the time needed to become more confident). I think that will be a relief too when everything turns back normal. Thanks for your info it is very much appreciated. Do you suffer from anxiety as well?

Dzien dobry! Mam na imie Ania i zazywam Victan 2mg juz 20 lat , niestety uzaleznilam sie od niego :( W tej chwili nie moge go dostac w Polsce i wraca panika .....Czy ktos moze mi pomoc???

Victan, dose usually 2mg three times daily, is a medium half life benzodiazepine derivative, and the chances of any serious addiction problem arising from its use is less than with more commonly seen related medicines such as alprazolam and lorazepam. It is an excellent anxiolytic; however for OCD may I suggest clonazepam 2mg three times daily? A lot of work has gone into clinical trials involving clonazepam (Roche Rivotril) recently, and this drug, which is principally used as an anti convulsant, can be used in epilepsy (main use) and has been found to be the most effective prophylactic for panic attacks on the market, often now prescribed off-label for that condition. It has been found that it is extremely effective also in controlling OCD as well, but that is not given as an indication in any of the formularies or pharmacopoeiae that I know of. You would have to tell your doctor about the work that has been done on it for OCD and ask if they would be prepared to give it a go with you. I think there are a couple of references to the work done on clonazepam and OCD on the Wikipedia page 'clonazepam'. Refer your doc to these.

There's only one way to control your alcohol addiction, stop drinking. Get help from AA. Been there and I'm sober for almost 6 years, because I found a program that helps me to live a life free of drugs/alcohol. Give it a try, if you haven't yet
