Valium Helping Pain?

This may sound strange. I have been fighting middle back pain for 5 yrs. I see a pain mgmt. dr. and we have gotten all the way to Fentanyl patches. I take 175 Mcgm hrs. Nothing has helped. I have had Nuclear bone scans, Multiple MRI's, Nuerologists, Rhumotologists, EMG's Chiropractors, Been on Vicodin, Soma, Lyrica, Spinal Injections, Nerve blocks, Facet joint blocks, You name it!!! I saw a new nuerologist, and he wanted new MRI's with contrast this time. I told him that if it had to be closed MRI, then I would need sedation, cause I am chlostrophobic. So I did 3 MRI's with contrast, on 3 successive days. Upper, Middle, and then lower. They sedated me with a 10mg Valium each day before the MRI's. All of the sudden, after 5 yrs of nothing but pain in my middle back. I had 3 weeks of NO PAIN what-so-ever! I asked if it was the magnets, the contrast t I am glad was injected, or the valium. { I had never taken valium in my life prior. He said it had to be the valium. So, I had my pain Dr. give me a 30 day script of 10 mg, and I take one every morning with 1 Vicodin, and 1 Soma. My pain is GONE!!!! What the hell???? I cannot believe this!!! After 5 yrs of suffering...GONE!!!! Why??? Don't get me wrong...I am thrilled. I have cut my Vicodin down to one a day....My Soma to one a day, but still on my patches. Just want to know why???

Valium has been used for years Sometimes as a strong muscle relaxer. If your pain may be originating from some form of muscular anomaly then I would venture to guess that's why it is relieving your pain. That's so great that after all this time you have found a medication regiment that actually relieves your pain!!!

Jason beat me to the punch, Valium can be used as a muscle relaxant, and it often helps even with other types of pain, due to the way it can help relax the entire body.

The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and dry mouth.
