Valium Contaminating Other Drugs

Updated

I am wanting to know that if its possible for valium to contaminate other meds? MY husband and I keep our meds in a lock box which all the bottles wont fot in, so we have smaller individual boxes we'll put them in. One month it may have his xanax in it the next it might contain my valium ( as I know valium is easily breakable and can go to powder easy if it is broken). So my question is my drug tests come back fine, however my husbands drug tests come back that he has taken his xanax and my valium, which he has not....seeings how we each have a key to the box and I am the one that doses out our meds each night. All this is due to us having our meds stolen before. Is it possible for the box that had my valium in it to get on his meds and cause his drug test to be dirty? PLEASE HELP

It does seem plausible that your husband may have accidentally taken one of your meds without being aware of it, because I haven't come across any details supporting xanax having a false positive for valium.

On the contrary, it seems like anything is possible on the cheaper, less reliable drug tests. False positives are known to occur on them anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time.

Keep in mind that there is specific testing, such as that done by a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer, which does have the ability to distinguish the exact substance in question. This type of testing is not initially performed because of cost, but, is often a follow-up option for those facing serious consequences such as a job loss or jail time. This may be something that you or your husband might want to look into.

I hope this helps!

Both of these medications are benzodiazepine so if he was taking a regular ua such as the ones for probation, treatment, job ect this should not have been detected as the ua would just show benzos in his system not which medication exactly. I guess there may be other ua's that actually detect which exact medication was taken but I know it's not something regularly used or that I even know about. I was actually really suprised to read your post because his ua should have come up just showing benzo's which is what his Xanax or your Valium both are. Even if they werent the same type of medication, I can't imagine keeping them in the same container and the small amount of residue would have caused his ua to come back dirty and the fact that they are both benzodiazepine's shouldnt have made it show up differently at all, So honestly it really makes no sense to me. Did he actually see the results stating there was Valium in his system or was he just told that?

We recieved a copy of our ua's in the mail. There not combined in the same container at the same time, it may be that one month (since all our bottles wont fit in our lock box) the box used had my valium in it one month, which I know leaves a residue then the next month he may use it to put his xanax in, so the container has been used to hold both rx's and his flexeril, but I stress they are never mixed together. Yes we got the print-out of both our tests, the tests is listed as "Clinical Urine Drug Screen w/Reflex to Confirmation" and further down a note that states: "Specimens for which drugs or drug metabolites are detected by the screen are reflexed to a second specific confirmatory quantitative procedure by LCMSMS (Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry) which I am assuming will give him the "exact" medication we are taking. We are both taking Ms Contin, Morphine Sulfate, his is 100mg ER every 12 hours, 1 30mg MS IR every 4 hrs as needed, along with flexeril and xanax....his test came back.....Analyte Morphine (Opiate) 1885- Anticipated positive, Analyte - Alprazolam (Benzodiazapine) 46 -Anticipated positive, Analyte - Nordiazepam (Benzodiazapine) 42 - unanticipated positive, Analyte - Morphone -3-glucuronide (Opiate) >4,000 - Anticipated positive, Analyte - Morphine -6-glucuronide (Opiate) >4,000 - anticipated positive. So with that confirmation tests to tell him the exact benzo he is taking, if his xanax had shared the ox my valium was in the month before would that cause the positive for the valium?

Maby U gave him a Valium by mistake. Same bottle. Sounds like a possibility.

There not in the same bottle....we have smaller square and rectanglan boxes that we pour our rx's in, and put the lable on. However this month say he puts in xanax in the small rectangle box the the previous month, I had put my valium in. We had talked to our pharmacists and he told us with valium if you pour out everything in the bottle, and look ay the inside of it, its covered with a usually thick, but a film of the medication. So he thinks it would definaely be a possibilty that my valium is contaminating his xanax. Both the rx's are never together in the same bottle, at the same time.
