Tylenol--dangerous To Liver Blood Levels

Updated

I am on a few psychotropic and an anti-convulsant. My blood work, I am told, says that my liver function level is 170 when it is supposed to be 40 or less. Therefore, my Pain Management Doctor said I cannot take anything with Tylenol in it, because it can harm your liver. What medication for pain, besides Roxycodone and Morphine could I ask for that doesn't have Tylenol in it, since they both knock me out when I take them. He tried Roxy first and then the Morphine, and now I am back on Roxy, because the Morphine made me depressed. Both were/are 30 mg. tablets.

HI, Candy! Sorry about the problems that you've run into and I understand about the medications knocking you out, Morphine always did that to me, too.

Other alternatives that don't contain Acetaminophen/Tylenol include:

Dilaudid, which contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone.

Learn more Dilaudid details here.

Opana, which contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone,

Learn more Opana details here.

And Duragesic, which contains the active ingredient Fentanyl.

Learn more Duragesic details here.

There are a few others, as well, but these should start you off to learn about them and know what to discuss with your doctor.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Verwon, you are extremely knowledgeable about medications. May I ask if you are a Doctor, Pharmacist or anything in that field? Back to the subject, I was on the Delaudid Patch for 9 months when I first injured my back in 2003 (I fell down almost 1/2 flight of stairs backwards--and then for my next trick: JUST KIDDING), and was terrified I'd never walk again. With the Delaudid Patch, I was also taking Oxycontin. I have little recollection of that time period. I finally went to a different doctor, and was hospitalized for EMG's and other tests, and then went into an 8-week rehabilitation center, followed by outpatient physical therapy. I graduated from wheelchair to walker and finally was walking again. I was weaned off the Oxycontin and was prescribed Vicoden, and with the help of all the therapy that was enough. However, 2 years ago I reinjured my back (this time I slippled and fell sideways out of my stall shower) and because of my already elevated liver function blood level, was given Roxycodone 10 mgs., I believe. I am now prescribed 30 mgs. of it 3 x per day, after trying the Morphine 30 mgs. which increased my Major Depression (I am disabled with a few diagnoses of Mental Illness, coupled with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, which I am told the years of those medications is why my liver levels are 170--the two major medications that can cause it are Lamotragine and Modafinil). I have never taken Opana, and will ask my Doctor about that on Tuesday, 8/20 when I am scheduled to have the first of a series of 3 Epidural shots (which I had in 2003, without much success), which my Doctor wants to try. I also have a Tens Unit to use, but as soon as I stop its function, the pain is back to the original level in a short period of time. If I could use it all the time, that would be great--I wouldn't have to take any medication--but that is a ridiculous idea! Thank you for your help thus far, and I look forward to reading more of your posts!
