Trazodone Mx 71

Updated

I have a prescription for Trazodone. It was a white pill. I changed my pharmacy and the color is now cream and smaller. It's scored and has the markings MX 71. I cannot find any information for this particular pill. Is it a full dose or reduced by 20%.?

I believe you have misunderstood how generic medications work, they are not all automatically reduced by 20%. To be approved by the FDA and allowed on the market as a generic, they must come within plus or minus 20% of the amount of the active ingredient in the name brand. Therefore, there can be some fluctuations, but that doesn't mean all generics have 20% less of the active ingredient.

Many generic manufacturers have strict quality control and make certain that their medications contain the full dose, just like the name brand does. There are only a few that actually let their medications differ and, when they do so, in some cases it can mean that you are getting even more of the active ingredient and not less, at all.

As to the pill you have questioned, yes, it does contain 50mgs of Trazodone, the active ingredient in Desyrel, it is an SARI antidepressant.

Side effects can include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and headache.

I have used many many brands of trazodone in the past. I've probably been using it for about 10 years. The brand (Mylan) with the MX 71 is by far my favorite. Some of the other ones I have needed to take two pills to fall asleep, but this one has never failed me and it's actually the one I ask the pharmacy to order for me.

I have been using Trazaone for about 6 years 200 mg. Very effective for putting me to sleep. Different manufacturers too. Four months ago I started taking 200 mg per night in 100 mg pill PLIVA 434 from CVS pharmacy and it has no affect on me at all. I don't think there is very much of the active drug in this manufacturer's formula. The pill has an odor and my hands itch when I touch the pills and I have to run and wash my hands to stop the itch. Should I even be taking this pill. Why is this happening? Any idea which manufacture makes the most effective trazadone.
