Tramadol - Unable To Acheive Orgasm (Page 6)

Anyone else experiencing this side effect? Not a normal topic of discussion for me with anyone but my doctor. I found this drug to be very helpful with easing pain, no sedating effect, BUT after taking this medication discovered I was unable to acheive orgasm. It took me a while to figure out it was the Tramadol causing the problem.

For those who asked how long it takes to wear off... I stopped Tramadol over two months ago. It took a month for libido to improve. And now, 2 months, it's much better, but not 100%.

Tramadol is also a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor which is a major factor in the sexual side effects it causes.

yawning is an early symptom of opioid withdrawal. Tramadol is a weak opioid agonist,and can precipitate dependence in some people,especially those that are addictive prone,or in recovery for opiate dependence/addiction....same thing to me,dependant just sounds less stigmatic.Not scheduled controlled substance in USA yet, it is in other countries and will be in the USA soon. It seems to have an immediate ssri effect, which puzzles me a bit, as other ssri's take 3-4 weeks to kick in.

Ive been on Tramadol for almost 20 yrs due to back and damaged nerves. I did have a very high libido, now it is non existent . Limp all the time and never reach orgasm. On TRT at the moment as the Tramadol has almost destroyed it all. Having a lot of problems. DON'T stay on them to long.

What's the big difference here with various drug dependencies?
U can get dependent on tramadols, ssris, benzos.
The main issue is that the drug can help alleviate the problem,( social anxiety & depression) isn't it?
Or is there a drug which can help with these emotional problems but u cant get dependent on it.?
Pls let me know if there is such a drug.

I'm a 26 year old male and am takin tramadol for a back injury and have found regardless how how much I masturbate or have intercourse I can't achieve orgasm. I thought at first it was diazepam (Valium) causing the problem since that can stop muscles from being able to spasm which is needed for orgasm. But even after running out of diazepam I can't orgasm. Not much tramadol left so should hopefully have it out my system soon.

I've just come off Tramadol, and I swear they were invented by satan, not long after I started taking them my libido dropped like a rock in a pond not to mention all the other horrible side affects, I'm annoyed and frustrated and so is my wife as we have a very active sex life and the trams have killed it stone dead, my manhood needs to be in splints to stay up and as for an orgasm, well you can forget it. My advice to anyone who reads this is avoid Tramadol at all costs, if you're on them go see your doctor and see if he can put you on something else, there are an awful lot of drugs out there which can give adequate pain relief without all the nasty side effects that this particular drug comes with plus they come with the added bonus which is they don't totally destroy your sex life. I made the mistake of trusting my doctor to change my medication to this wretched drug when the the drug I was on was doing an okay job and not affecting my sex drive, I only hope that it comes back soon as my wife and I have a lot of reaquainting to do if you catch my drift.

Joe I know exactly what u mean. I've been taking tramadol for about 5 yrs for arthritis. At 1st I didn't know I was addicted either...until I ran out. By the next morning I was so sick I thought I was dying. Everyone please be very careful with this medication. It may seem like a miracle pill but the withdrawals are horrible! I use to think that only people who abuse pain pills get addicted. But that is so not true. I take 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. If I don't take any I'll start have withdrawals within 24 hours.

Hi Matthew. It's open and shut -- Tramadol makes is greatly raises my orgasm threshold. And that is good, because I can really go for it and enjoy myself in intercourse without having to worry about coming too quickly. Somehow, your working assumptions you have learned in medical school have to be retooled, because there is zero doubt: Tramadol makes my orgasm threshold much higher. BTW, the mechanism of action in so many drugs is only half understood or hardly understood at all.

All narcotic pain meds have that side effect and yes even tramadol aka ultram although it's not a narcotic it still works on the narcotic receptors of the brain and acts like a narcotic. Tramadol even stops narcotic pain medication withdrawal. And not achieving orgasms will not subsided while being on tramadol. I know because I've been in pain management for years and I'm only 30 years old. I've talked to my Dr about this issue several times and changing meds to a NON narcotic is the only way if you can. Men can get testosterone IV's for libido and viagera but nothing for woman.

Hi:
Do a search for tramadol and premature ejaculation and you'll find a number of studies where Tramadol is used for those with this problem. So it's not surprising. It's not so much a side effect but some the drug DOES. I basically had to tell my doctor that my wife and I were not ready to give up intercourse. (The side effect might have been great when I was 23, but not when I'm 54 and my back is not that great in the first place!) So now, I switch off between percaset and tramadol every 5 hours or so (I have PHN really bad). If we are going to get intimate then I generally stick with the percaset that day. And if we don't plan ahead then I can generally finish. A couple weeks ago I ran out of the percaset and was on tram again 100% for like 3 days. We tried ... and no way was I going to finish. So got a refill of the perc and we were back in business.

I have been on Tramadol for about 3 weeks and have had the same problem. Hardly any libido or desire for sex as well as no orgasm. Very unusual for me. I miss it actually.

My husband started taking Tramadol twenty-four hours ago and already we noticed a difference in his sexual performance. We've had sex three times in the last twenty-fours hours and he has not ejaculated once, which is odd for him because he usually has the opposite problem. I'm glad we found this website because we both started to seriously worry because to not ejaculate is beyond unusual for him and we are trying to conceive a child right now so this is not an option for us. If you go to the website for this drug or to the Mayo Clinic website, a lack of ejaculation or orgasm is not listed as a side effect so it took me a while to figure out that it was the Tramadol causing the problem. I have had no withdrawl symptoms at all after cutting back on tramadol over a 2 week period till stopping altogether. Within 2 weeks I have been once again been able to achieve orgasm. Not sure if it calmed down my pain by being on it for a while nut the sciatic nerve pain is gone.

Wow you are taking serious risks with your health. Taking way too much. My Tramadol RX says take 1 every 6 hrs. I have taken them every 4 hrs once or twice, but that's it. Please reconsider drugs are no joke.

I am glad but not glad that there are other women out there with the same problem as me. So I had lower back surgery 8 yrs ago, and I have still had to take pain medicine (vicoprofen) and (flexeril). And it's very difficult for me to ever have an orgasm, to the point that I don't care if I ever have sex again. Been married for 17 yrs and I have sex for it seems just for my husband. Just super stressed about it. But for sure can't stop taking my medication.

I have been on tramadol for 2yrs now for lower back pain and now I have the exact symptoms as you do!! I have to completely agree with you when you say you can cum faster if u do it yourself. I feel do bad for my boyfriend because he seems to get tired after a long time of tryin to make me cum! I hate it :( this tramadol does help me out a lot with pain and getn thru my job everyday but my sex life and relationship is in trouble..I don't know that else to do.

What I have done with my doctor (and you can find the studies on the internet that show Tramadol is used to prevent premature EJ) is I used tramadol primarily but when we decide to be intimate we go on Lortab or Percaset for 24 hours. It takes about 1.5 days for the Tramadol to leave the system. Anyway. We do that about twice a week. Which isn't as much as we would like (or when we were younger) but it's a lot better than nothing. (I'm male.) My wife wanted me to mention that it took her about a year to get back to normal after having neck surgery a few years ago. It like new pathways need to be made. That's in reference to an earlier post that mentioned surgery.
