Taking Clonidine

My doctor has started me on clonidine pills, taking them 2-3 times per day. I was told by a nurse that he has me taking too many. Should I be concerned?

Hi Pamela, u didn't mention the reason why the doc has u taking it or the mg. it is. (theres many reasons docs prescribe it). Anyway, my doc prescribed it to help with the side effect of extreme sweating I get from being on methadone (in case ur not familiar, methadone is a med that helps keep people off pain pills). I'm not a junkie however from a few scripts for legit pain pills from doc it got me hooked. However, with the help from the methadone I've been completely clean 8yrs now. Anyway, my doc gave me 0.2mg of clonidine & said to take 3 times a day. However I only take it once maybe twice only on days I really really need it and as I noticed, esp when I took it continuously, I did get some bad side effects including super dry mouth (the mouthwash/toothpaste Biotene helps with that), peeing alot, & the most bothersome, being it'd make me SUPER dizzy & SUPER lightheaded when I stood up from sitting/laying - feels like those "headrushes" u get but way way more intense & some people say they get light sedation. I do not at all but it does sometimes help me sleep. But just PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF THE DIZZINESS/LIGHTHEADEDNESS UNTIL U KNOW HOW THE MED AFFECTS YOU & DON'T STOP TAKING IT COLD TURKEY (I FORGET WHY BUT U CAN LOOK IT UP). IT DOES LOWER UR BLOOD PRESSURE SO BE CAREFUL WITH THAT TOO! AND IF U CANT HANDLE SIDE EFFECTS, IF U GET ANY, & WANT TO LOWER/STOP THE MED. I'D DEF TALK WITH UR DOC 1st BUT LOWER UR DOSE VERY GRADUALLY & GIVE UR BODY TIME TO ADJUST B4 LOWERING AGAIN!!! That's just my experience with clonidine so I thought I'd share it when I saw your post! Any questions or comments or anything feel free to post me back! VERY GOOD LUCK!!! But oh, again I'm not sure why u take it but the nurse MAY be right as imo that does seem like alot. I know there's no way I could handle that & I have a VERY high tolerance for alot of meds!!

Catapres or Clonodine is therapeutic at doses of 0.2mg to 0.6mg per day, usually starting at 0.1mg two tablets twice daily.
I would ask the pharmacist if the dosage is normal, maybe the doctor messed up while submitting the Rx electronically.
