Synthroid Sweet Taste

Idk where to start and after taking my morning synthroid 0.075mcg it's so sweet. I get my prescription filled via mail-order at OptumRX. I have been using them for a year and a half since I changed insurance. This is when I started noticing the sweet taste. I'm thinking they are sugar pills or placebos. My weight just keeps slowing going up up up! And I CAN'T get it off. I am Diabetic with HBP and I have tried to get my dr to increase my synthroid but she won't. So this morning (which I know was wrong) I ended up taking a total of 4. I'm telling you it's some form of sugar! I see this same question over and over but it's like the question is NOT properly answered! What's going on with our meds? The pharmaceutical companies already make a killing on prices but could they be like some drug dealers and mix something in like sugar with meds? My health and weight is getting worse but I am just blown off like I'm crazy. My diabetes seems to be going off the charts for the last year and I'm desperate to get some weight off which would help diabetes and HBP but Dr's are dead set of even thinking about it. But it's ok for me to take a cholesterol med she says because the benefits outweigh the side effects. Can't have it both ways. Can you answer the sweet tasting med question first and offer any suggestions on the rest?

You are quite correct! Synthroid is buffered with lactose! Might not taste as sweet as sugar cubes, but it will affect your blood sugar.

If this Synthroid tablet really does contain lactose as Lisa pointed out, perhaps it would be a good idea to get a custom prescription filled through a compounding pharmacy, who can formulate a vegan (lactose-free) version of this. I would probably just let the doctor know that you have some sort of intolerance to it and/or that it adversely affects your diabetes. I'm sure an understanding doctor wouldn't hesitate to refer you to an appropriate compounding pharmacy that can fill the prescription in such a manner. I guess it all comes down to keeping the line of communication open with your prescriber.

I’ve been on synthroid for 9 years and it’s always had a sweet taste, no matter the pharmacy, until OptumRx started filling the prescription three months ago. I was worried the pills were fake! Thank you for posting because now I realize they must sometimes come in non-sweetened forms too.

I'm so glad I saw this .My levithyroxin has never had a taste until the last couple of months . I think the pharmacist gave me the meds for hyper instead of hypo . My weight is out of control . and my moods have been awful . I don't know what to do

The same thing happened to me .I've been on synthroid for years now all of a sudden it state sweet .It never tasted like anything before .Now I'll grumpy ,tired, week .and have gained a lot of weight that I can not lose .!! please help
